I believe that it's finally time to make som changes in my life style, so here I go.
Venci Age: 21 || Height: 185 cm || Weight: 103 kg Starting Date: 12/14/10 || Goal Date: 12/30/10 Weight goals -- will be set at the beginning of next year. Training goals -- just some minor workout on a regular basis, so I can get used to keeping up with a training schedule. January, when I won't be that busy, I'll be starting to really work on getting in shape, losing some fat and gaining some muscles. Nutrition goals -- Radically change my eating habits. I have to stop eating only microwave junk and other shitty food. After reading the OP, I think that it'd be best for me to start consuming only "real food": veggies, fruits, fish, eggs, lean meat, etc. Misc goals -- less procrastinating, more studying, less time wasted in front of the pc

Welcome
The key I believe is keeping your workouts regular at least when you are started. Then you get the hang of it and feel strange if you ever skip one.

Mutaller, check the OP for Starting Strength and follow it to a tee. And read the stuff on nutrition too. By the time you're an old fart like me in college you'll be a fuckin beaaast. Also, nikes =/= good gym shoes. 10x95 lbs not a good bench/strength goal. pick a 1-5 rep max youd like to achieve
Seriously, I'd just kill to be able to go back in time and coach the 10 year old me. The lack of information about strength training for kids is just sickening. Makes me wish I did football solely for weightroom experience.

Looks like we have a lot of newbies coming into the thread, which is always nice to see. Making TL members beastly, one member at a time...
I think the most important thing when you start out is to construct a plan and stick to it as best as you can. Don't make it a ridiculous schedule with 7 trips to the gym every week, because you'll never be able to follow that. Start small, and build it up over time. The "Starting Strength" program in the OP is a great place to begin, since it only requires 3 workouts per week, each taking about an hour. Once you gain the habit of working out, it's so much easier to maintain it.

Your arms shoudl not be working much in a power clean!!!
You're not pulling the bar up to rack position; your arms should function like ropes from your shoulders. your posterior chain/hips are what are moving the weight

I definitely do this, but it's more of me trying to carry as many of them as I can across the gym at once :p
Although you'd laugh at how long it took me to figure out this method.

Squat: 100kg (again, yes !! HOOOOO) Deadlift: 105kg. (FUCK YES)

Decaf, I've got 4 inches on you and I started out at 150 in august when I began working out. Threw on 20 pounds of fat/muscle in the first two months of lifting, but I've "stalled out" on numbers since - I think that's an increase in muscle and a cut in even more fat. I'm a twig right now, but I'm a twig who has clearly begun to lift.
Haven't been so good about my diet lately actually. I don't have the time I would like to have when it comes to cooking due to school, and I often don't have the time (or a car) to take to the grocery store. I'm planning to pack on another good fifteen pounds or so over winter break, alongside an absolutely BEASTLY lifting routine - my mother's a teacher, so I have anytime access to the highschool gym. And no one there (including my old gym teachers) knows what a power rack is actually for, so I should have as much use of that particular piece of equipment as I would like.
I'm excited to have the time to dedicate to being serious and making improvements. I've let other things get in the way, especially the last month, and I feel as if I've just been "maintaining" rather than really pushing myself. It's definitely time to be sore again.

Any Christmas wishes regarding weightlifting that you would recommend?
Also making progress in the weight room. It's a lot more fun than I would have thought.

On December 14 2010 12:12 decafchicken wrote: jeez i can't imagine being 150 at our height lol. i'd recommend eating a LOT. Whats your workout look like?
165 is my normal weight, as I said... bad habits in Spain Anyway, yeah, eating a lot, as well as 2-3 protein shakes a day + creatine. Christmas at the parents house will help.
My workout is divided into 3 days: Lower body: Parallel squats (alternating 10 8 6 and 5 5 5 reps each session) Trap bar dead lifts (same) Leg extensions (alternating 10 10 10 and 10 8 6) Hamstring curls (same) Calf raisers (alternating 12 12 12 12 and 8 8 8 8) 3 sets of whatever the glute exercise is called where you get on an incline and do a reverse-situp with a plate
Back and Biceps: 3 sets of pull ups (warm up) Seated rows (10 10 10 and 10 8 6) Chainsaws (same) Reverse flies (same) Alternate dumbbell/barbell curls (same) Curl machine to failure (Start at XX weight, failure, drop 10lbs, failure, repeat until curling 10lbs hurts)
Chest, Triceps, Shoulders Pushups (warm up) Benchpress (alternate 10 8 6, 5 5 5) Incline dumbell press (10 8 6, 8 8 8) Flies (same) Military press (alternate dumbbell and barbell each session) Dumbbell shoulder lifts (no idea what they're called) Skull crushers (10 10 10, 10 8 6) Shrugs (10 8 6, 8 8 8) Weighted dips (10 10 10, 8 8 8)
Every day I'm also doing ~15 mins of abs, which I like to change up pretty regularly, some weighted, others body weight.
Thoughts/suggestions?
