Alright, I think I finally have this acne thing kicked. I haven't gotten a new pimple in days and my old ones are disappearing.
The only thing is, I don't know specifically what I did that stopped the outbreaks. The possibilities are....
*Improved diet (very low gluten) *Liquid fish oil (you rock for recommending this stuff Eshlow) *New black soap face wash (<3 iHerb) *New facial mask (yeah, I know, I know) *Collagen supplement *Coconut oil *Sleeping with a towel over my pillow every night *Gradually lowering stress levels *New facial moisturizer
Yeah, pretty hard to pinpoint what it was that changed my skin so much. It would be nice if I could cut a couple of things out of this... although I guess that they all have other health benefits. Might as well just keep everything going.

Or you could do as me: grow a beard and cover it all up

I realize I need a lot of flexibility if I wanna go for gymnastic exercises like planche, manna and all that good stuff. To elaborate a little bit, I'm most curious about how long I should stretch each muscle, and if there's disadvantages to stretching with my back arched vs. straight. Stuff like that. I'm a total noobie, so any advice is much appreciated. Also, after I've done the frog planche, I get pains and a sense of stiffness in the middle of my back. Is this just a result of me not working out at all for a few years, or should I just refrain from planche alltogether? i'd stick in the stretches 'til you feel you're getting noticable lengthening and then hang out an extra 10-15 seconds. For stuff like german hangs it doesnt matter what the body position is. Most specific stretches will have a certain body position you're in anyway so it doesn't matter as long as you're getting the associated mobility/flexibility. Stiffness in the middle of the back tends to be not keepign the shoulders protracted and allowed the shoulder blades to sink backwards. It's a sign of a weak back + poor form in the planche. Work some serratus pushups and keeping the shoulder protracted during that exercise + more horizontal pulling strength work. /
Thanks for the advice, man. Much appreciated.

I've been trying to incorporate bridge wall walks as part of my workout, but I've had some issue with the some discomfort in the lower back/spine. The discomfort usually happens on the day or two after doing the wall walk. It feels like it's because the vertebrae of the spine are grinding next to each other. Is this something that will go away with time, or is it an indication that something is wrong?
Do some other back stretching and try to loosen stuff up before that.
If the vertebrae are actually grinding that's probably not good.... but they can get tight and not funcion right if the spinal mobility isn't good either so probably gotta do adequate warmup or other stuff before doign that.

My skin was fucked when I got back from the US, although that was from alcohol and greasy food abuse.
I just smashed the fish oil and zinc.

Ok, I'll jump in on page 205.
Contra Age: 21 || Height: 6'0" || Weight: 150 lbs Starting Date: 01/02/11 || Goal Date: 02/02/11
Weight goals -- I've spent the last 4 months in Spain drinking heavily, not eating as well as I should be, and not working out. The result has been -10lbs of muscle loss. I don't look anorexic or anything, but I'd still like to get back to a weight that makes me happy when I look in the mirror. I think 165 is doable in 2 months.
Training goals -- As I said, I haven't worked out in 4 months, so the first goal will be to get back to my previous level. That means benching 10x155 and parallel squatting 10x245, as well as getting back to my normal levels in the other lifts I was doing. That should take less than a month. By Feb 2, I'd like to rep 185 on bench, squat 305, and exceed all of my previous weight levels. The plan is to work out 5 days a week (Mon Tues Thurs Fri Sun), alternating between 3 muscle groups with abs every day. This will be a "bulk" phase; I have no urge to be one of those huge guys at the gym, but it will make getting myself cut easier in the next 2 month cycle.
Nutrition goals -- 3 solid meals a day on a regular schedule. The last part will be the hardest for me, since my sleep schedule has been so erratic these days. I'm also returning to supplements, taking a multivitamin, fish oil, protein, and starting a creatine cycle.
Misc goals -- Fight my chronic procrastination. It really does make everything harder when you wait til the last second to do everything, and I really need to trick myself into doing the important things right away.
Awesome idea for a thread... gamers and health aren't correlated too often
|
Wow, that's pretty insane, 10+ pounds in less than 2 months, while working out 5 days a week.
|
jeez i can't imagine being 150 at our height lol. i'd recommend eating a LOT. Whats your workout look like?
|
Kyle Age: 14 || Height: 5'7"|| Weight: 117 Starting Date: 1/01/2011 || Goal Date: Within 2 Months Weight goals -- 124 Muscle @ end date Training goals -- I'll work out at the gym gain 7 pounds of muscle Nutrition goals -- Keep eating as I do now but cut chocolate Misc goals -- Get new Nikes Gym membership bench about 95 reps of 10 and 7 a day run in Basketball court not treadmill
|
@Mutaller: If you haven't been gaining much weight lately I'd reccomend you started eating a whole lot more especially if you are planning on gaining 7 pounds (or preferrably more )
|
God i wish i had proper information and training when i was 14 At least i knew that squats were good lol.
Mutaller, check the OP for Starting Strength and follow it to a tee. And read the stuff on nutrition too. By the time you're an old fart like me in college you'll be a fuckin beaaast. Also, nikes =/= good gym shoes. 10x95 lbs not a good bench/strength goal. pick a 1-5 rep max youd like to achieve
|
Yeah, but think of it this way dude, you're probably only around my age early 20s?
Imagine how beastly you'll be by 30.
You'll be one of these blokes who walks into the gym, does some 225 warm up squats and then throws the weight into the air and starts pressing it, lowers it down and does a few rows. Places it on the ground, adds another 225lb and does a set of deadlifts. Walks out

Does anyone know a good workout program?
I'm thin and just want some muscles, nothing too much. I've found this one: http://iwantsixpackabs.com/
Should I get away from these "internet programs" and just go to the gym..?

I can tell without looking that that plan sucks.
Read the OP, do Starting Strength, eat a shit-ton. You will never have 'too' much muscle, bodybuilders train like animals for years to look like they do, it takes dedication and you can't accidentally become huge like them.
