Correct me if I'm wrong, this may be broscience, but isn't DOMS a build up of lactic acid? I heard a few people on the bb.com fourms disagree with this..

However, the relationship between damage, inflammation and DOMS is not yet completely understood.[2]

Two other hypotheses that have been advanced to explain DOMS, muscle spasms and the presence of lactic acid in the muscle, are now considered unlikely to be correct, since there is evidence to refute them.[4] In particular, lactic acid is removed from the muscle within an hour of intense exercise, and cannot therefore cause the DOMS which normally begins about a day later.[6]

so i was in ketosis, and then i had a half-pint and some fries with some buddies; i wouldn't call it a willpower fail, because i'm not trying to hardcore low-carb it up, just testing the waters...still it came to less than 50g of carbs i think, so keto should come back relatively soon? it's empowering knowing that because of the bad taste in your mouth your fat is burning awaaaaay

At your weight and height you can consume 50-80g of carbs a day and still stay in ketosis.

No, read this:

DOMS is also fairly well understood. Wiki is not up to date.

Finally dragged my lazy ass to the gym yesterday and did squats & benchpress. The owner suggested I started using a rack with a latch to make sure I didn't drop it on myself.

My question is: Is this just as good as free weights? I'd rather not be doing an half assed exercise machine.

My body feels pretty destroyed today though. Can't wait till friday !

Erm squat and bench are free weights. Are you referring to the smith machine? If so, stop/don't use it, it doesn't work any of your stabilizing muscles. and doesnt put nearly as much hair on your chest.

and shallow: BEAAAAAAAAAAAST, i started at 425 in june, if i don't watch myself you might catch up :p

@Shallow: I think you should feel it if you are popping in and out of ketosis. Awesome pull!

Yes, it seems to be named the Smith machine. Cheers for that clarification. I'll stay away from the smith machine then even though it seemed useful for starting out.

Edit: I also train alone if that has any relevance.

It's worse if you are just starting out, it will teach you bad form right out of the gate.

I think the last time I used the smith machine was about 2 years ago and that would have probably been bench.

The last time I used a smith machine is when I squatted the machine itself. And carried it out the gym.

Training alone has no relevance to it when you're starting out because you're not lifting to your max. Just common sense is all you need.

I meant in the context of a newbie training solo. I understand where your coming from though.

Thanks for all the help.
