Well done! If you recover good until tomorrow I strongly believe you'll pull 100kg x 5 if you get pumped enough. And bring your own chalk, it isn't expensive

Yes. But I stopped doing deadlift since I couldn't find any chalk around here, I did 90kg barehanded and it felt great! tomorrow Imma try with 95-100 :D babysteps bro!
You don't want to build an imbalance. Take it from someone who suffered a 6 month lower back injury.
I know decaf would laugh at this while he Deadlifts my max with 1 hand. But I always use straps and a belt on my work set.
Also was just "given permission" to get my little sister in the gym for the whole month. She's an aspiring collegiate basketball player, so everyone figures she could benefit from some good old strength training. I'm excited enough FOR her, and dad will be around to do her spotting once I'm back at school. Awesome for her, awesome for me. She just doesn't realize it yet.
I've actually decided that when I'm home over the winter break, I'm going to teach my sister how to squat and deadlift. Then all the boys will be scared off. Win/win!
We're a tall family. My little sister is 16 and 6'3, so all the boys are already scared off. Now I'm going to get her squatting and deadlifting just for the hell of it. Also because it's awesome.

Explain?
Most people I know who have done SS have added from 5% to 13% bodyfat in 8 months. If you are already starting off at 15 bf you won't really look too good.
Also if your goal is aesthetics then you are going to have to switch to another routine to target all the individual heads of your muscles.
Then again I'm not really an expert
@shallow...i find girls that deadlift and squat to be extremely attractive. and their lower bodies are unbelievably godly. So i don't know how much that will scare off the boys :-p
@brootogy all i've been doing in terms of working out is heavy squatting, deadlifting, benching, rows, pull ups, overhead press, and recently olympic lifting. And i have a very aesthetically pleasing body (according to female companions and envious friends). Form often follows funtion. Sure it's won't give you the volume or "peaks" that bodybuilding does, but i'll be damned if it doesnt leave you with a good body. Also refer to rosa's point.
@koagel...big anatomy words scare me
Also, here's a vid of one of my snatches today. Not my best, i really need to work on my footwork T_T. It feels so much more solid when I don't lift my feet off the ground. Stupid bad habits from football coaches teaching us powercleans. Need to work on squat snatching more..i feel like my power snatch is better. lots of work to do!
edit: and i look down when i get under the bar...god dammit
let your arms loose when you are pulling, too much arm pull. good job, are learning quick :D

Find some and until then keep deadlifting! I thought most supplement stores sold magnesium blocks, maybe a climbing accessories store has some.

You should be able to find some anywhere related to gymnastics or climbing as well. Place your order, tear some sleeves off an old tshirt and wrap them around where you place your hands until chalk gets here, hold the bar properly (in your fingers not in your palm), and quit making lame ass excuses for not deadlifting!

Er, on deadlift you're only supposed to do 1x5. I like your effort and all but the lower back recovers slowly, so if that was a strenuous 3x5, you're gonna have some serious DOMS tomorrow.
So true. I was doing a shit ton of volume (anywhere from 30-50 reps) for my deadlift workouts over the summer. it was pretty brutal.
On December 08 2010 20:26 Energies wrote: This is going to be a douchebag question. But how do I get bigger, stronger arms.
I feel stupid being able to squat and deadlift a small horse and then on the other hand not being able to finish 1 set of dumbbell curls with 17.5kg weights.
The only work my biceps get is from weighted chin+pull ups and barbell rows and i can curl 50+ dumbells for reps.
On the bright side, being able to squat a horse is far more practical than failing at trying to curl it

Pfft not quite :-p But if i feel like my work set is so heavy i need a belt to keep my form then i feel like i'm doing too much weight. Belt up for maxes

My logic tells me that you'd have to make adjustments to the program because isn't lighter eating going to affect your recovery, yes? Please, explain
Yes, you eat insane amounts if you're a super skinny super underweight twig of a teenager with hormones flowing out your butt
If you're obese you already have a significant amount of energy that can be applied to muscle building (in your fat cells) to use. Obviously, as BF% drops you will start to stall faster but people can make SIGNIFICANT gains if diet if manipulated correctly losing fat and gaining strength and muscle mass. The lower BF% is though the less this will work
I never heard this before. I know that you can't turn fat into muscle, but indirectly, having some amount of fat contributes to muscle building? Also, I'm well aware that the old adage "You can't gain muscle and lose fat at the same time" is bullshit, but is this what makes it possible?
Well its only half bull shit. You can be a newbie and make some good newb gains eating under maintenance and lift heavy, or you can use cell-tech and lose fat+build muscle, but after you've been lifting 6+ months I doubt its possible without good genetics.
What.
hahaha yeah i noticed that too, it's why i've stopped responding to him and assume he's a troll

It only took 11 months, but i think we got our first inside joke. Off to go throw heavy shit in the air. Without jumping. Or looking down. Or using early arm pull. Objective: Bodyweight snatch. Maybe clean 125 I might try out the hook grip on my snatch, i know the more experienced lifters there use it.
On December 09 2010 06:14 travis wrote: eshlow how important is stretching for recovery? particularily in this gymnastic isometric shit
i very rarely do any stretching of my upper body. just regular german hangs and occasional triceps stretch. im wonder if that's ok.
As long as your muscles are feeling pretty good I don't think it matters TOO much.
If you wanted to get serious with handstands, etc, I thnk it would be a very good idea to do at least some mobility work before and flexibility after each workout
Oh man, I just can't believe this thread is going to end .
Yeah, I know about the hook grip, and that amazon page, I don't like amazon as of now. I ordered a PS3, and I paid for next day shipping, the fuckers delivered it one day later, and My aunt couldn't bring it to me (she left earlier that delivery day). So Yeh, I'm fucked.
I'll try hunting down some gymnastics shops or some shit, and see if I can find some good chalk and buy something that'd last me a while. Most people here, use gloves, like 99% :/ I think I'm the only one who doesn't want to use gloves. :o!
And well, I just recently found new love for deadlifting, it's so empowering, I just fucking love it, asdfasdfasdfasdf.
Man, if 2010 was this good for me and everyone else in athletics, gym work and better body composition, I just can't fucking wait to see how far are we, this time of the year in 2011!.
Hey Travis, how far are you on planche? Can you hold a straddle?
I've been working towards the planche as well, but I can only hold a tuck planche that's really low to the ground. I can't fathom how I'm going to raise my hips up any higher.
no, no straddle, not at all. halfway through the year i switched hand positions and it slowed me down a lot, but frankly my progress has been abysmal anyways. I can hold a normal tuck that's pretty high for 25-30 seconds if im fresh, but that's to failure. I can hold a pretty weak advanced tuck planche for 1-2 seconds.
Usually I do it with my hands pointed forward, but sometimes I use dumbbells or dipping bars. I also have been working pseudo-planche push ups with my hands backward.
I'd like to be able to hold my self up on my fingers, but that in itself is a far away goal.
hands forward takes a lot of wrist strength/flexibility, but I think a little bit less overall strength. it's harder to push as high up in that position, imo - but luckily you don't have to push as far up. work on getting as much of a forward lean as possible when you do it.
i think that practicing various hand positions may make it harder to reach. just my guess though.
Travis: You improved yourself as a person, no? Not failure!
Fucking phenomenal workout. Snatched without jumping my feet and it felt so much more stable. But i wasn't finishing my second pull so i struggled around 75. Got my shit together, relaxed my arms, and dominated 80kg twice. Did c&j up to 95kg today. couldn't get 100, prob tired from snatches. Kept cleaning went up to 120 without thinking about weight and got it pretty good. 125kg. Enter Beast Mode. Let out thunderous roar during second pull. Catch it perfectly. More roaring as i power through the front squat. 275 pounds = owned. new pr
And then another guy there cleaned and jerked 140kg like a boss. at 41. T_T
