I was wondering if you guys and gals feel the same.
First Immortal Gardens making pathing much easier to see by means of round and cubic trees without much leafage.
Now Dark Reef actually has performance advantage.
Not too much on topic - just a rant - but the whole cosmetic items situation seems to get out of hand as well. My favourite examples are Juggernaut in a completely different colour set-up and Timbersaw looking like Axe. I wish I could disable cosmetics items that got too much out of hand : (

dark reef makes trees pathing and cutting the right tree a lot worse imo and the performance advantage is negligible so no immortal gardens square trees was pretty dumb but as long as it brings your framerate down 50% it's hard to call it op.
|
Ya I love dark reef but uhh... in 4 ranked games on it I have cut the wrong "tree" twice, and placed a ward blocked by a piece of seaweed once. xD. I don't think the performance is an issue at all. They may have learned their lesson hopefully about maps that actually make things easier.
|
So the pro's and con's level each other out? I guess so, but 50% drop is a bit exaggerated. According to the link it's only about 7% to 15%. The fps change is not that great, but the trees seem to give a big advantage. Makes it much easier for me at least.
Thanks for the replies anyhow.

Honestly only the immortal gardens give some advantage with easier to see trees for pathing and what not.

Tbh I feel that the "ash" weather effect is the most OP thing by far.
I mean you can see heroes way before they appear on screen or on the map : the long shadows give them away, despite the fog of war.
The shadow is headed full south, so you want to play radiant. And yeah, why not throw an immortal garden map over that, they're compatible (and look somewhat nice, if not a bit dark).
edit : sadly, afaik, one can't get that weather anymore. At least I can't find a way to grab TI5 weather effects that I missed So not really P2W per se I guess, but still... never understood how that weather was "ok".

Dark Reef looks very nice but seems unpractical, too much of everything which is distracting etc. I can't see the small fps gain offset that tbh. If anything i'd say Dark Reef is pay2lose.

Yeah, my motivation was Immortal Gardens. I still think it's a bit unfair because it seems more clear than the other maps.
When I googled for similar posts I found the fps thread on reddit and added it to this post. I don't truly care, but for fairness points I hope Valve will make another similar map to Immortal Gardens that everyone can have access to.

Immortal Gardens is so good it should straight up replace the original map skin.

I do have Immortal Gardens but use the default map instead. So it isn't a universal opinion.

Can you explain why? Is it nostalgia, aesthetics or do you think the map is just better in some way?

Aesthetics. I don't really like the marble and refined style. I prefer the look of a wilderness being fought in.

The main map is superior in tone and any advantage giving by one of the map skins is negligible and likely canceled out by some other flaw we are not aware of.

I have IG but I use the MK map.
I think it is the best at defining heights (which I find very confusing with the default map), also it looks nice and I grew tired of IG.

Ah the King's New Journey. I'll be looking in to that. Thanks.

Life is good if shit like this keeps you up at night.

lel plebs still imagining that pros dont know by heart the pathing through every trees, every jukes spots. Some people could still play this game with the map blacked out and just seeing their own heroes

I've got massive FPS problems at the moment. It's about 60% bad days - which has me at around 15 FPS 40% good days - which gives me around 40 FPS
And I'm already playing on the very lowest settings possible.
I've noticed that as soon as I get to around 25, it suddenly gets playable - everything under feels like a good second delay -.-
so basically, if I can just improve me "bad day" FPS by 5-10, it would make a huge difference. I actually won the MK map in that Kiev Major predictions thing... Would that map slightly improve my FPS as well, or should I get darkreef/immortalgardens?
