oh, sure, you didn't buy the courier, but you sacrificed your fun for the team, right? and sure you stopped buying wards around the 30 minute mark but it's the thought that counts.
news flash, support isn't some altruistic thing you do to feel high and mighty while being ass-terrible at it.
I say this cause every support on reddit seems to be one of these.
Also, recruiting for a support is almost as frustrating as finding a mid. you get those people who're like "i play everything" when that actually means they have 135 games as pudge, 63 as riki and 221 as invoker and they just saw us recruiting and go "lol, how hard could support be? i'll learn as i go"
This... so much. So many people act like they're a heroic martyr because they chose a support and bought the first set of wards. Then they sit in lane watching the carry farm, make no effort to gank, no effort to help mid control runes, leave a 2 minute window of no vision after the first set of wards expires, don't try to deward, and complain about how hard support life is and how much you depend on your carry.
No. You have a gigantic amount of influence in the early game, do something with it. And no, people shouldn't be appreciative that you bought wards. It's part of playing your role. If you can't afford wards or are close to saving up for an item then fucking communicate it so some1 else on your team can help you out.

^ This, and also all the people who pick a solo offlane and then they start crying because they get no levels, no farm and so on. The worst are the one who die once and then go back to the lane and die over and over again. Obivously they'll start asking for stupid ganks instead of ganking themself. Clear example of this is the average Clockwerk player: never ganks, feeds the enemy carry and cries a lot ( and has the worst skill build ever ).

Meanwhile I am out of lane, stacking and sucking it up because I am KotL and make of glass(its random draft, you take what you can). I remember tell him in chat: "I bought wards and two salves for you, give me a break and let me try to get either boots or a bracer. I only need one of those and then its back to the ward fund." Not that it mattered, its not like he looked at the minimap.

heh, your support priorities may be inverted. It sounds like you were actually losing farm over all because you left the lane to place wards/stack/pull. Sometimes, you just gotta babysit.

It sounds like you were actually losing farm over all because you left the lane to place wards/stack/pull. Sometimes, you just gotta babysit. No, that Riki was just bad and pushed the lane to no end, refused to listen and made it impossible to support him. He would push the lane up to the tower and just get upset because I didn't harass enough so he could yolo tower dive(because thats what you do with riki, didn't you know). He also kept pull the agro of the entire creep wave because he would backstab melee creeps with full health. He was the highest level pub riki we could find.
And if your a carry and you can't keep yourself out of trouble for 30 seconds while your support pulls the camp, I don't know what to tell you. At some point they need to get boots or they just become candy to ganking heroes and then it won't matter how much farm you get.

Forced into playing support Skywrath because team decides to pick 3 different mids after I pick him, but I can do it. Harass enemy dual lane out, stay out of XP range otherwise, stack and pull until I realise the carry doesn't know how to not die to creeps and rages about how I took his tank minions away, roam for a few kills with Bounty and Pudge. I'm level 11 20 minutes in and I'm feeling good since all my team is much higher, especially my safelane carry who pretty much got solo XP and then some since he kept autoattacking the wave down and then taking my pull.
Get raged at for being underleveled as everyone starts dying because they want to Rambo and it's my fault for having no levels and no farm. And apparently 1/4/12 is feeding more than the 4/5/7 Riki because he has more kills.
fuck playing support

The problem is a lot of supports mishandle the 2 v offlane scenario.

The problem is a lot of supports mishandle the 2 v offlane scenario. Ideally you want to zone the offlane out and pull until your carry has enough of an advantage to farm comfortably vs him, at which point ur free to do whatever. A lot of ppl either leech too much exp, dont zone out the offlaner, or dont double pull every opportunity. If the offlaner gets an exp lead then ur basically stuck babysitting the carry if its some1 like Riki who sucks in lane.

Sometimes I just wanna queue up and get a quick game in while I'm between classes. NOPE. It seems like everything possible is done to make this not happen.
Currently been stuck in queue for 20 minutes.

Some of my real life friends are so fucking bad at this game, holy shit

enemy team picks pudge, I go mid with OD, own the guy, get 3x the CK, so he starts roaming, I ping everywhere and warn people, the guy ends up godlike, team blames me because I don't have kills.

my MMR tanked so low because I played and lost with RL friends for a day that now I am getting horrible games and horrible teams omfggggggggggggggggggggg

18th lose in a row. Losing confidence. The others? Or me? Looking at them replays T.T.... THE OTHERS!!! those guys eh.

All this talk about supports and no one's mentioned one of the most vital things for a support to do: ROAM. Warding/Stack-pulling is so beyond standard that it doesn't even deserve mention. In my eyes, "good supports" are ones that make situations happen around the map (either defensively or aggressively). A team with supports that know what they're doing is way harder to deal with and threatening than I think most people realize. I think that's more of a result of the game being the way it is; by the time the game is over, more often than naught, the carry's the one leading everyone in with phat l00t and so they get all the glory.
Anyway, for the record, I hate supporting...
|
My winstreak is too long I'm scared to play anymore...

play initiator - they leave you to die when you initiate play carry - they wont let you farm play support - they dont pay attention to the map even if you ping like mad and write in chat play jungler - they go in X v X+1fights all the time while you still havent gotten your items from jungling play a role other than support - everyone is now farming their stupid items and nobody bothers to ward, let alone deward ( lol blue wards they dont even give vision!)
i got the hint valve, i really did you give me one nice game and then fuck me in the ass for at least the next 5 games

You cant really farm when your supports are afk farming lanes/jungle and the enemy is constantly ganking you. Worst case scenario you find a wave/lane to farm and someone immediately comes and starts nuking it. Thats what I meant with the first one.
And for the second - its when you play a roamer/ganker and suddenly you realize everybody else is farming their shitty non-support items and you're a one man army in the game of dota :/
Its really fucking depressing I've come to the realization that everyone is too fucking greedy and has no idea how to play support/utility heroes without having 800 GPM The last game I abandoned I was an offlane Timbersaw, did pretty well in laning, got two kills, denied them some farm, etc etc. Laning phase is over, I start rotating actively but I constantly get owned. Then I fucking realize that one of the supports is farming mid, the other is doing the L camp in the jungle, our carry is forced in the jungle as well (because nobody is fucking covering him) and our mid is healing in base. Meanwhile, the enemy carry is constantly being ghosted by 2 other players, the supports are getting meks and shit, and are actively warding/dewarding.
