Newer items are worth more given that they are new, and they are usually on heroes that have never had cosmetics before. Which is why Furion and Axe items don't really fetch too much as there is a ton of those out there. It also depends on how aesthetically obvious it is to see. Stuff like MA tails for BH, even though they are uncommon, are priced like rares because of how prominent they look. Not sure if that's still the going price for MA tails, but it's just an example. | ||

Most of the knowledge comes with being involved with the trading scene. Some items are valued much more than just the tag of "common," "uncommon," and "rare." Most rares from Axe, Omniknight, Witch Doctor, Bloodseeker (just to name a few) are considered a lower tier of rares, unless they are a brand new item/set. Some of the more popular heroes, like PA, Juggernaut, Alchemist, etc. have items that are usually more valued and can get high trade values from them. As far as the "1:2" thing, this would be rares that kind of fall in the middle of the pack, such as maybe a few select Bounty Hunter pieces, or some rares from Windrunner, Antimage, and Sven, etc. Hope this answers your question a little bit. | ||
