I was going to try and grab a 3070 or 3080 just so I can run some render engines. Shame they still don't have anything worthwhile that'll work on AMD cards. My 5700XT is still going strong but it's probably time to upgrade soon. Next year (if the holiday deals aren't worth a damn) is when I plan to grab a new card anyway. Looking at the 6000 series or mid-range 7000 series. Not going near the newer Nvidia cards after the CEO basically said go fuck ourselves if we want their cards. | ||

PITA troubleshooting compatibility with software. In other news though, AMD 7000 series CPUs are out. Expensive, and fast is the conclusion. Solid for gaming albeit expensive, and generally the king for productivity. The gaping hole in the lineup for the 7800X3D is probably where the patient, rich person's money should go though. That'll probably dominate gaming charts comfortably for a until the next generation of CPU with v-cache. There's also Intel's next gen in the next month, so the best time to buy is probably early next year, rather than now. Just looked at the AMD cards and they're not too expensive from the 5000 series. The Intel ARC cards look to be a sweet spot, but what are the adoption and support looking like for games? I'm looking at the 7700X right now since it has a good value. Don't know where the top end ARC cards are going to fall, so I'm still waiting. But if the holiday has any good deals, I might jump on a AMD card and 3080 if prices are right. | ||

1 * gtx 750 1 * gtx 1060 3gb version 1 * i3 4160 haswell cpu 1 * pentium haswell cpu (forgot the model) 1 * haswell matx mobo 1 * haswell itx mobo 1 * 350w psu 1 * 4gb ddr3 ram 1 * 120gb ssd 1 * 320gb hdd I thought maybe I can build an HTPC with gtx750+itx mobo+pentium cpu+psu, if I buy a small case. Rest can be a light gaming-browsing pc if I buy some extra ram and a PSU. I don't really need an HTPC or an extra PC, though. I never sold any hardware before, do you think anyone would buy them? Do you just put away your old stuff? | ||

So the AMD Radeon 7900s look good. I'm waiting on benchmark numbers (and next spring) to decide if I want to upgrade. My 5700 is screaming right now when I work in UE5 (though it handles CP2077 on max (no RT) just fine). Found some cheap 3060/3080s on Newegg, so I might end up getting 2 cards and building a new PC altogether. One for rendering/game design and one for gaming. | ||

I have a 1440p 240 Hz monitor. The way i understand it, to completely use that, i should be using Display port. However, when using the monitor via Display Port, it sometimes just turns on and off constantly without working, with the PC making the "disconnected - connected sound". I assumed this to be a cable problem, and bought a new Display Port cable explicitly designed for working with high transfer rates. This solved the problem for a month. But now the problem is back, and i am back to using my old HDMI cable to actually get an image on the screen. Switching which exact ports the cable is attached to does not seem to change anything. Is the new cable bad again? Is there some other problem? How can i get a long-term solution to this problem? | ||

There might be some settings in the monitor OSD related to displayport, one of my monitors had an issue unless "displayport deep sleep" or something like that was turned off. | ||

Also on the list is a partial rebuild of the desktop. New GPU and AMD CPU. 3070/3080 if possible and priced decently. Or the new 7000 series AMD Thoughts? | ||

I'm getting AM5 w/ 7950x3d rn, got talked into Hynix 16gbit A memory as well which is the newest chip, highest clocking and easiest on memory controllers but some timings may be a little looser if you run it at the same frequency as Hynix 16gbit M. Most people should probably buy M right now as it's super cheap (£170 for a good bin of 2x16GB 1Rx8). Have not made final mobo choice yet Got some new SSD's also, the P41 is giving some great numbers ![[image loading]](https://i.imgur.com/NVzpRnX.png) | ||

It's slightly uglier, but it's a lot more flexible in the long run, because you can get ultrawide monitors, larger monitor sizes etc. in the future, without rendering the mount useless. | ||

In 1CCD mode (basically a 7800x3d with a better bin and frequency limit) it's running 36% over 5800x3d with all settings at specification on a co-op map with physics max. During the SC2 bench it averaged 5239mhz (hard cap is 5250), package power of 48w, temperature of 53-56c (avg 54) - without any CO tune. That's on an Arctic Liquid Freezer II with offset mount. Just getting some quick stats out there, bench and tuning project will be ongoing for many weeks | ||
