What is your budget? My budget is about $1000-1300. Looking for about 128gb SSD for OS. Will probably grab another HDD to backup my current 2TB HDD. What is your monitor's native resolution? I have dual monitors at 1920x1080 What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? I play pretty much anything blizzard, but mainly WoW. I have an i5-2500 currently with a 560ti GPU and get some stuttering in WoW in big raid fights towards the beginning when everything is going off. What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Web browsing and normal day to day stuff. Do you intend to overclock? Probably will this time around yes Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No. Do you need an operating system? No. Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? No. If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. Not really. What country will you be buying your parts in? USA If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. Newegg probably, or amazon.

Generic build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Qyr6Jx A bit too sleepy to know what I am doing, but basically that's one big ass cooler that sure works well. RAM can drop to 8GB depending on your usage, but your blizzard games wont use that much. I picked random case that doesn't look ugly. For GPU, at US$1300 point, you can look to buy GTX970. edit: change generic build to gtx960

and get some stuttering in WoW in big raid fights towards the beginning when everything is going off. That's because of CPU and your upgrade path would be a 6600k + overclock if possible - it's also worth noting that a lot of stuttering issues are caused by addons. A single one like Recount (worst offender i had) can turn your game into a stuttery mess with 15+ players even on the best hardware while Skada will not For GPU, I am not sure what setting you are aiming at, but a R9 380 can handle blizzard games on high quite well I think. Nvidia runs WoW stuff way faster (was ~1.5x) than AMD graphics because of dx11 driver CPU efficiency, been that way for a year and a half and might be that way forever since they are ignoring the problem 970 is a good buy but min FPS will be similar even on a 960 if you're playing max with shadows on minimum (which is the raid performance config) and also nh-d15 with a 6600k is just asking to be @1.4vcore, 55c ![]()

(: Anything else I need to say? not sure how integrated GPU in skylake handles those game, it might be able to get low setting 30fps but driver and game optimization might be painful. So best is just stay away if you have other option. Of HP and Acer, those 2 can and should deliver those games at at least low-medium setting 60fps. Acer is slightly stronger, but more expensive. The HP one is big though, 17inches can be quite a hassle if you plan to carry it around, but bigger screen is more pleasant for movies and stuff if your laptop just sit on your table. I would pick either the HP and Acer depending on size and cost. Other than that I am not very familiar with laptop market anymore to recommend any other options. cheers

Short description of the project here: update as much as possible a computer with 400€. So, the question is what is the most important part to update as everything is not possible. Actual computer: - Intel Q6600 - 4Go DDR2 - Radeon HD6870. I intend to keep PSU, HDD, DVD writer, and that's it. Maybe keep GPU also if not possible to upgrade in that budget. What is your budget? My budget is about €400. What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920x1080 What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Heroes of the storm, Fallout 4 What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Web browsing and normal day to day stuff. (copy/pasterino from previous request, no twitch meme even here?) Do you intend to overclock? Sounds like a no. Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No. Do you need an operating system? Yes I do, gonna be tough. Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? No. If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. Not really. What country will you be buying your parts in? France If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. LDLC (give 'em more money to save esport), materiel.net, amazon... Thanks a lot ![]() Edit: thanks a lot for the reply, would love to continue the conversation faster but my brother (owner of the rig) does not answer regarding his PSU, so I'm stuck right now :/.

Thanks a lot ![]() Disclaimer: Here comes the I-have-no-idea-what-I-am-doing moment. Also, french is hard. Firstly, can you put some info about your current PSU, that would help a lot in seeing which GPU may fit the upgrade. Ok, so the parts prices are referred from materiel.net. Sorry there are too many benchmarks to dig around, and most benchmark for HD 6870 are games at ultra setting, but it definitely cant run fallout 4 ultra, and some other modern games at ultra, so very hard to compare benchmark. I just go with approximate comparison and gut feeling. Option 1: upgrade everything to some modern low end that still fit the budget. + Show Spoiler + i3-4160 http://www.materiel.net/processeur-socket-1150/intel-core-i3-4160-106475.html h81 cheapest mobo http://www.materiel.net/carte-mere-socket-1150/msi-h81m-p33-94940.html 8gb ram http://www.materiel.net/barrette-memoire-pour-pc/g-skill-value-ddr3-8-go-pc12800-nt-84383.html gtx 960 yolo http://www.materiel.net/carte-graphique/pny-geforce-gtx-960-2-go-112576.html total: €419.37 ok it actually exceed the budget. but it will perform much better than your current system, even play fallout 4 with average 60fps@1080p/medium. Downside is that you are pretty much stuck with this, and the only sensible near-future upgrade will be adding more ram. Can also consider upgrading to haswell i5 or upgrade gpu again, but I doubt you want to do that after just fork out such amount of money to buy new stuff. if you really cant exceed the budget, consider dropping down to gtx950] http://www.materiel.net/carte-graphique/msi-geforce-gtx-950-oc-2-go-119007.html or even R7 370 http://www.materiel.net/carte-graphique/sapphire-radeon-r7-370-dual-x-oc-2-go-117033.html however, with Radeon card current PSU may be an issue. Option 2: upgrade 1 part first, then try to save up a lot to upgrade the other part. + Show Spoiler + Honestly I have little idea how HD 6870 will perform with fallout 4 at medium/low setting. What I found in benchmark is that a R9 270X can reach >= 60fps fallout 4 1080p/medium/low and it is 1.6~2x faster than HD 6870. So if you are lucky, your current HD 6870 might manage 30fps. This "I dont know". because HD6870 only have 1GB VRAM. With this assumption, I will go upgrade CPU/Mobo/RAM first. i5-4460 http://www.materiel.net/processeur-socket-1150/intel-core-i5-4460-102134.html same mobo as op1 h81 cheapest mobo http://www.materiel.net/carte-mere-socket-1150/msi-h81m-p33-94940.html same ram as op1 8gb ram http://www.materiel.net/barrette-memoire-pour-pc/g-skill-value-ddr3-8-go-pc12800-nt-84383.html total: €291.38 can use the extra budget to get better motherboard, upgrade your PSU as well, etc. Or just save up until you can afford a nice GPU as listed in option 1. However, I really doubt this works, I mean it's a really old GPU. But then if you upgrade to R9 380 or something better, the Q6600 CPU will likely bottleneck, especially in resource hungry game like fallout 4, and blizzard heroes of the storm being reliant a lot on CPU. edit: actually you can spend €50 more and grab this bundle http://www.materiel.net/kit-d-evolution-pc/materiel-net-rokit-launcher-121954.html#FicheDesc like latest gen stuff. but that leaves you with €60. save up some months and grab yourself a new good GPU as mentioned. edit2+3: actually upgrading GPU first make more sense. Get a GTX960 or new PSU + R9 380. Your Q6600 probably drag itself along ok. GPU upgrade will likely see more performance improvement. err, I kinda ran out of idea for now. Will do some research and update later. anyway, if you decide that this €400 will be your 1 time upgrade and nothing else in near future (may be within a year), then go with option 1. If you plan to save up more and do more small gradual upgrade, then go with option 2. edit x times: oh, I totally missed the OS requirements. Windows 7/8/10 costs like €130 minimum. I dont know then, may be get windows + gtx960. that will fit €400 nicely. Or, find a way to reuse the windows in your current machine (hopefully it's win7 or 8), then do a free upgrade to windows 10. The build! (Plus the speakers, which for some reason weren't on the site, and some SATA cables cause I almost forgot and would have felt really dumb.) So! In the event that I buy this build, what am I sad about? It's $15 under budget after tax and shipping and everything, which is very nice. For anyone in the US, is there any reason at this point to wait for Cyber Monday? Is there anything that it looks like I haven't tried hard enough to find discounts? I'm gonna still be looking for a few hours to see what I may have missed, but it will be with the assumption that this is probably within about $25 of the absolute minimum price I might be able to manage. Edit: Another question, how much should I care about 80+ versus 80+ Bronze certification on PSUs? Say the difference is $5 more for a Bronze certification, would that pay out in efficiency/longevity?

Pretty sure motherboard box includes enough SATA cable, so don't need to buy extra. For PSU, it can be just me being paranoid, since it has to do with electric stuff, but that PSU is unlikely to fail, although quality is slightly lower than other expensive units.
