i have a question about the operating system, i know that my very old i think windows 7, can upgrade to windows 10, so there shouldnt be a reason to buy win8.1 right? just go for the cheapest operating system and then get the upgrade to windows10 is that right? Also im wonder about how to install windows if someone crashs or goes wrong, dont u normally need a disk to do that but there is no physical windows 10 copy or is there idk :/

I'd recommend a 980ti here a good 550w PSU is fine for a 6600k + 980ti. Are you intending to do CPU overclock? If so, you need 6600 k and a CPU cooler; if not, it's a bit of a waste to get a $142 z107 board
I don't intend to overclock, should I get a different MB? Also, should I get bronze or gold PSU, what is really the difference? I am surprised at how much it costs to create a 4k gaming pc. It is the same price as an iMac, but I always thought Apple was more expensive than PC.

4k is 4x harder than 1080p and iMac's don't even try to be half decent 1080p gaming systems. They target non-graphical workloads.
I don't intend to overclock, should I get a different MB?
you can get cheaper ones, z170 is for overclocking.
Also, should I get bronze or gold PSU, what is really the difference?
That is an efficiency standard but the efficiency rating does not describe the quality of the PSU that well

I'm looking to ram some new parts into my PC.
What is your budget? ~600 CAD
What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920x1080
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Dota/csgo on high/ultra, and I'd like to be able to run fallout 4 at 60fps.
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? THERE'S LIFE BEYOND GAMING?
Do you intend to overclock? nop
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? nop
Do you need an operating system? nop
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? nop
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. I'd love to be able to buy locally in Calgary, Canada, so I'll be looking for any recommendations at local stores here. I'm not big on waiting for shipping.
My current build is :
CPU: Intel Core i3 2130 @ 3.20 GHz Mainboard: ASUS P8H61-M PLUS r 2.0 RAM: 16 GB corsair DDR3-1333 Graphics: Radeon HD 5750 Power Supply: corsair cx600 SSD: 100 GB hyperX HDD: 1TB WD caviar green
GPU is in obvious need of an update, and I suspect RAM and CPU could use a sprucing up as well. Gimme some pointers bois!

Would it make sense to buy an r9 390 8gb for my current build or would I have to upgrade? Cpu is i5-3570k and z77 pro4-m mobo with 8gb ram. I'm looking to be able to run vr games when the rift or vive come out.

Main priority to upgrade is GPU. The thing with upgrading CPU and RAM is that you will likely need to install a new motherboard which can be a hassle. If you dont want to replace the motherboard, upgrading the ssd and gpu is what i would recommend. For GPU, id suggest a gtx 970 or a r9 390. If you go replacing the mobo and cpu, itll cost a lot more.

I'd like to get to an i5 6500 processor, and a little research seems to suggest I'd need an intel 1151 board (my current board is an 1155) in order to support that... that'd be around ~300 bucks for the processor and ~120 for the board. If it's something I'll have to do anyways to be able to run current-gen games on my PC, I might as well fork over for the upgrades, and I think I can manage 750 bucks to bring my PC up to speed.

Wanna slightly upgrade my PC to get better streaming options
MSI H81M-E33 Socket 1150 Intel Core i3 4130 3.4GHz (3mb, Haswell, 54W, S1150) GF GTX650 1Gb GDDR5 MSI (N650-1GD5/OC v1) DDR3 2x4GB 1600MHz Team Xtreem Vulcan Orange, 9-9-9-24 Aerocool Strike X 500 500W 80+ (PSU) HDD SATA 500Gb WD, 16Mb Caviar Blue
Switching my i3 to i5 is going to solve it? Or I should pick another GPU as well?
|
An i5 would definitely serve you better for streaming. If you get an i5-4670 you can upgrade eyes closed, if you get an i5-4690, make sure that your BIOS is up to date.
Your GPU is a bit weak but if you're streaming something like SC2 it shouldn't pose any problem in particular.

thanks for feedback
i'll make my upgrade in two steps: 1) CPU 2) GPU if needed for something "stronger" than sc2, for example MKX

My friend told me to get thermal paste what do i do with thermal paste

Moving to the US and want to build a new PC after I arrive. Not used to shopping with these US sites so asking for help on this build.
Had a quick stab at a build but don't feel very confident in it. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/McVX6h
What is your budget? USD$1500-2000
What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920x1080. Looking to 120+Hz for new monitor.
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Dota2 / CSGO on high. Maybe looking at SFV at 60fps
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Very casual streaming to friends and occasional virtual machine
Do you intend to overclock? No
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No
Do you need an operating system? Yes
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? Yes. Will need to fit in under the budget.
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. Prefer Intel/Nvidia
What country will you be buying your parts in? USA.
If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. Preferably mostly from newegg. Don't want to complicate it by using too many suppliers.

- Should I wait for Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales?
- If I was looking to push it down closer to $1500 what would i be best off cutting back. I imagine ram first.
- I liked my Nanoxia Deep Silence but it doesn't appear to exist anymore. Any recommendations aside from the Fractal?

I need some airflow advice here. I am currently considering some odd airflow setup for CM HAF XB case, which will potentially house i5-6500 and R9 380. Seeing how open this case is, with a lot of honeycomb/mesh panel, I am thinking of going completely without exhaust fan. With 2x80mm back intake in the bottom chamber to cool the hdd, then in the top chamber will have 2x140mm front intake, 1x120mm back intake together with some upward cpu air cooler (an example is intel stock cooler or Noctua NH-C14S). I hope the positive air pressure together with CPU cooler will direct all the hot air to passively exhaust through the top mesh/honeycomb panel. Not sure if front+back intake will starve the GPU off fresh air somehow though? Thanks

Will probably not use NCIX anymore when i order anything last time i called them because of an order issue she fixed it and said everything had shipped been tracking my packages except cant track theirs bc the fucking website doesnt work never got an invoice saying my order status, finally comes up today to..

Just noticed it says 12 GB of ram in 2 places and 16 in one. 16GB (or 12GB) of ram for typical mom usage seems excessive. Could probably find something about $50-100 cheaper without custom building and just as functional. *(not a resident expert)

You could go cheaper but yes, that is definitely sufficient, the A10 is a capable enough APU to handle all that, and the deal seems fine indeed since its convenient.
(12GB can come in handy for them browser mem leaks :3) but in all honesty will last her years at this rate.
