Should be fine as long as you have the correct pci-e power connectors

Not sure, I have the corsair 430cx v2, nonmodular.

Has one 6+2 connector but some 380's only use one connector i think, there is also the possibility of using an adapter (that's just not ideal). A 960 would also be an option

Btw, there's some bad rap going around in regard of the way AMD handles drivers for its GPUs. Is this really a frequent issue with their graphics?
|
In terms of single card performance I don't think there's much of a difference. They've had some advantages over nvidia in places like dx12? support. Apparently their w10 drivers are also doing better.

There are CPU-bound performance problems because of poor optimization for CPU time on their dx11 driver that affects some games but is fairly limited. It just makes it so you'd only get an nvidia GPU if you play WoW, for example.

R9 270x refurbished at 99$, worth it?
I have a HD 7850

A 270x is literally a 7870 with a different name written on the side so it's IMO not worth

What's the difference between those versions of the gtx 960 linked above? I was looking at the SC 4GB as it is the best price for 4GB, but it only has one fan and the there are other options, so I can't really decide.

It's a smaller card with a weaker cooler. It would probably need to be noisier than bigger dual fan cooler, though both are probably not a big issue with 960's being as low power GPU as they are.
Different cards may also have different voltages and power limits available which is worth looking into if you want to tweak the GPU yourself. Occasionally it even makes a difference at stock settings
|
Not really looking to tweak it. Does the price difference justify the performance boost? There is a $40 difference between the lowest and highest 4GB versions.

They're probably pretty similar at stock settings. Even if OCing, the higher ones would probably be gaining convenience and luxury at the cost of a bit of performance/$.

Writing my first post from my freshly built PC, only took 3 hours with the goddamn cooler install being the most complicated thing to figure out :D Not bad for first build, even though there's still lots to do Plenty of wiring and (HDD and possibly fan) positioning to reconfigure but damn This thing's quiet, powerful and pretty (although my laptop is a pretty shit comparison for baseline anyway :D) Time to see what it can do once i get the gfx drivers installed :0 And once stuffs dialed in and set, I'll hopefully look into OCing as well, currently running bone stock 3,1ghz with just XMP-1866 1.5V CL9 enabled YUM pictures of mess possibly soon, but already, big thanks to all the helpers from this thread over the (over 6 month) period that I put into putting this spec & build together, huge love

Alright I boiled it down to the gigabyte gtx 960 2gb or the sapphire r9 380 4gb. The latter is only $15 more. But I'd need to replace the corsair cx430 v2 if I don't wanna play with an adapter, the disadvantages of which I don't even know. What to do?

I saw at least one 380 4GB that used a single 6+2 pin IIRC, but it was one of the smaller ones.

New drivers from both sides

I meant gtx 960 and r9 380 :D But I might just spend that extra $100 and get a higher one, either 970 or 390, in order to be able to play VR. It looks like 390 is better with the new driver, cheaper, and it's double the gigs. But I assume it would also have the pin problem with my corsair 430, requiring an adapter.

That benchmark was for other stuff~
A 390 would need a better PSU as the power consumption is way higher than a 380 / 970. 8GB of VRAM instead of 3.5GB is very relevant and they do seem to be performing quite well recently

Could my psu handle the 970? And if I do go with the 390, what psu would you recommend?
