So throwing the quietest cooler on an already quiet card should be pretty quiet. Apparently Gigabyte's Windforce is the most silent: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7392/the-geforce-gtx-770-roundup-evga-gigabyte-and-msi-compared/6 http://www.anandtech.com/show/7398/the-geforce-gtx-760-roundup-evga-and-gigabyte-compared/4 So this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125502

So throwing the quietest cooler on an already quiet card should be pretty quiet. Apparently Gigabyte's Windforce is the most silent: The windforce cooler (at least 3x fan version) is very nice for running @60% fan, but that keeps my 770 @60c load at 1293/7600mhz. A 750ti would consume like one third of the power - you're honestly looking for far quieter stuff (like the minimum you can set the gpu cooler fans to!) and a couple of like 600-800rpm case fans at that point, super quiet system. It's somewhat of an extreme, because we're suddenly in a situation where you can run a quad core Haswell cpu and a capable (gtx480-tier) GPU with gaming power consumption around 125 watts for the entire system It's a pretty good point you have, but you overestimate the ability for a 750ti to get more than "very slightly warm" on minimum fan :D Here's running what seems to be basically a furmark equivalent @1400mhz OC, pic from OCN: ![]() It's safe to say if you have a 750ti, a decent small case, a ~600rpm fan on any stock haswell cpu and a pair of ~600rpm fans on case (one intake one exhaust) you're pretty much set. That build doesn't have the power of a stronger GPU or overclocked CPU though - it's taking it to somewhat of an extreme with low noise, way further down than i think most people would be bothered by.

@skyr: oops at reviews. hmm still though, assuming we're still interested in finding a really friggin' silent card (afaik any gtx 750 is quite quiet), what does that leave us? evga's ACX cooler, msi's twin frozr IV and gigabyte's windforce. i tried finding fan dimensions for these coolers but after 10 minutes of google nothing came up. would the ACX or TFIV be quieter than the windforce, since their fans are bigger? ie x2 100mm fans will run at a lower rpm to cool a GPU by teh same amount as x2 80mm fans ? which makes sense to me, if you think about it, larger fans also means larger surface area for fins

(freaking 5500 rpm... I hate those fans so much) EDIT: I'm measuring 75mm diameter but it's sold as 80mm, probably to give the blades room to not hit stuff?

I don't like it because it feels too much to pay for a midrange card. 760 can do that job well and both are clearly destroyed by the gk110 cards (780 is better than 760sli and 780ti is better than 770sli)

but if I were to change the fan, would it be complicated? or its just unscrew -> replace -> screw?

GPU fans are insanely loud at 60%+ but practically dead silent at 40% Depends a lot on the cooler itself, the noise ramp up on windforce 3x doesn't even really start til ~60%-100% but an r9 290 reference cooler at 60% is terrible I'l mention now BTW that nvidia has had a lot of problems with idle power recently. Some of their drivers will just refuse to use idle clocks for me - others will do it if i have one screen @120hz (but not 144hz) but i've not been able to idle properly for >4 months now, my 770 is at 42c idle, and 60c load with the same fan speed and room temp. With lower idle clocks, it's 20c cooler

In any case, I couldn't figure out when or why the idle clocks get broken. It seems totally random. I also bet I very often never noticed because the fans are still quiet at 40C for me.

this is a build i am putting together. I was wondering if you had any improvements for me. I am on a ~$900 budget and have to have a new monitor and OS. Thank you. :D

You don't like the idea of waiting for a 770 or the fact that the 760 is a midrange card? http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1038?vs=1061 Looking at this, is that worth €180,- to you? As I said, it's mainly for my GPU to catch up to my CPU. I want to play games like Watch Dogs on high settings (doesn't NEED to be the most extreme, best) on not only ''shadows'' and ''special effects'' The choice is basically get a 760 now + Watch_Dogs and be done with it (Because the free Watch_Dogs thing will also save me about €40,-), or wait it out and get a new GPU somewhere at the end of this year/beginning of next.

Thank you. :D Yeah, Core i5-4570 - $193 http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=81329&promoid=1308 ADATA 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600 MHz - $65 http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=93607&promoid=1308 AsRock H81M-DGS - $46 (a casualty of cost-cutting; make sure you don't need PCI slots or more than another PCIe slot, etc.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157483 Seagate Barracuda 1TB - $65 http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=65701&promoid=1308 Gigabyte R9 270X - $200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125476 Fractal Design Core 1000 - $37 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352032 EVGA 500W - $40, $30 AMIR (a real casualty of cost-cutting; this is substandard but at least shouldn't blow the comp up) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438016 Dell P2314H - $160 after promo code http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260148 Windows 8.1 64-bit OEM - $90 http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=91219&promoid=1308 That should about hit $900 and get you stuff where it counts. You can always upgrade a graphics card later. edit: more or less, don't buy ~$100 monitors, and I'd recommend spending $20 more to upgrade the power supply to a Rosewill Capstone 450W.
