Hello fellow Mac users. So I assume all of you who play Starcraft II on your Mac knows that the mouse movement in OSX feels a little bit "off". There is alot of 3rd party software that will remove acceleration on the Mac, but there's has always been that little bit of lag when using the mouse. Well, finally, there is a solution for our problems, and it's called Smoothmouse. With this software, the mouse will feel just as good as in Windows. I encourage all Mac users to try it out!
You can download it here: http://smoothmouse.com/
More detailed info on the problem that Smoothmouse solves: http://d43.me/blog/1205/the-cause-for-all-your-mac-os-x-mouse-annoyances/
EDIT: Note that I have nothing to do with the development of this software, I'm just trying to spread the awareness.

This is what I used to solve this issue like 2.5 years ago (and after the upgrade to 10.8 it still seems to be working fine). I left acceleration on for the trackpad because it felt terrible with it off. But for mice it is completely off. I didn't notice any delay/lag when using either my Death Adder, either of my G1s or my G9X (which somehow now works great with 10.8. With 10.6 it was downright broken to use and had weird tracking issues).

Thank you so much, my breaks during school are gona be soo much better. I hate being stuck on mac machines

I can't really describe it better, but if you have a Windows partition on your Mac, you probably know that the mouse feels much more snappier and accurate in Windows.

I don't know what the current state of OSX is, but I know I used to use USBOverdrive when playing SC:BW and it seemed to do the trick.

Gonna give this a shot. Although I don't game in OSX anymore i would really like my mouse to be consistent between OS:es.
EDIT: Can't download it, says I don't have permission. EDIT 2: Made an account, that solved it. EDIT 3: Urg, it needs Lion? Here I was thinking I could get away with running Snow Leopard...

What I stated above your post goes for every way of disabling acceleration except for Smoothmouse. I have used USBOverdrive for many years to disable acceleration, but it wont fix the core issue.

Thanks very much for posting this. Just installed, will test it soon.
I'm very excited

Interesting! I've always found the acceleration when using a mouse a tad bit annoying. Will try this.

USB Overdrive seems to work in 10.6. It's shareware, but I don't think you lose any functionality for using it for free, it just makes you click through a dialogue box when you go into the settings.
(It allows you to turn off acceleration and rebind most commands, etc.)

Quick question, how different is this from the MouseFixer software that Bumblebees posted on here a while back?

I certainly haven't noticed and I use two of the same mouse on both my Windows desktop and on my Mac, which is usually hooked up to a monitor, mouse, and keyboard when I am doing programming on it. I haven't played Starcraft on it in a while but I used to and I didn't have this issue at all. I don't know what to tell you.

Great. Thank you!

I've been using this for the past few days, and I don't really notice a difference... but maybe I'm not advanced enough to notice :D
however, it does a great job of removing acceleration!
|
O_o. I'm so excited. I don't know what the post above is talking about when he says he doesn't notice the difference aside from acceleration...
I really hope this does what you claim. I can't wait to try it.

What is the difference between the linear setting and the windows settings under acceleration curve? is osx linear per default?
They seem different but I can't seem to figure out which feels better. turning it "on" overall makes a difference though.
EDIT: just found the answer to my question:
" Linear mode gives you no mouse acceleration. Windows mode mimics Windows mouse acceleration ("enhance pointer precision" checkbox). Windows acceleration curve is more gentle compared to OS X acceleration curve. "

It's just as good as I'd hoped.
Thanks for the tip-off OP.

Update: Ever since the last patch, I've noticed a HUGE change in mouse latency. To the extent where my selection box now absolutely keeps up with my mouse, whereas it used to lag behind noticeably!!
Thank you to labbe and the development team, this has truly changed my gameplay.
