When EVO bought monitors themselves one year a few times back (as opposed to having them sponsored), it was Asus VH236H because those are cheap, fairly dependable, and have reasonably low input lag and decent pixel responsiveness. I wouldn't take that to mean too much of anything though.

Certainly if the monitor choice for any event or organization is based on whoever supplies them or pays them, then of course it is even less of an indication of quality or what you want to get.

I've had this Samsung S23A950D for over a month now and it's the best monitor I've used by far.

The 120Hz experience is just so different from normal TN monitors and Samsung has done an excellent job with the build quality as it's very solid.

BF3, Mass Effect 3 and SC2 are amazing to play on this monitor. I highly recommend it as a first choice for a 23" 2ms, 120Hz monitor which isn't too expensive. No dead pixels/backlight bleeding.

Lol if I was a Samsung salesman why would I be on this site promoting only one monitor?

Also what benefit would I gain when Samsung doesn't even know my real identity?

Don't be naive.

I actually wouldn't recommend it. In the OP, I mentioned the S23A700D is a far better choice if you can live without the silly styling (stupidly large base and no VESA mounts? 20 degree tilt is all you can offer?).

You might have a perfect monitor but the design has given quite a number of people backlight bleeding where the stand connects...typically anecdotes don't mean anything but when a lot of owners are getting the same problem in the same spot and can prove it with macro shots, it seems to be something worth mentioning. This design hasn't ever been good anyway, Packard Bell did a similar design with the same results. Prad.de only rated the 950D as merely satisfactory (strange because the panel is very good) so I suspect the awful ergonomics and backlight bleeding is the reason

The point is that S23A700D should be significantly cheaper and should actually run into less problems since it uses the tried and true monitor design everyone uses. They all have input lag of around ~10ms and the same perfect pixel response so you know they're using the same panel. The S23A750D is another option but only uses DisplayPort which is problematic for nVidia users especially and is, again, more expensive than the 700D.

Anyway we've had this conversation. I remember you saying that you bought it and it was the best thing since sliced bread. Not sure why you're saying it again. No measurements or pictures, just blind praise.

Edit:
S23A700D is only $300. No reason to get anything else to be honest if you want a no frills 120hz screen. If you want 3D Vision, scaling options, or proper ergonomics, you're going to have to look at the Asus and BenQ listed in the OP; both still very capable but not as cheap as the 700D.

I would have bought the S23A700D a month ago if it was VESA mountable. Samsung is just plain retarded. I can't see how anyone could argue that it wasn't just plain retarded to make all of these otherwise great monitors completely devoid of ergonomic features (and don't tell me to pay $50 more for the 750D just for tilt; for $50 one could get a good stand with full ergonomics....).

In the meantime, it seems the ASUS VG236HE has been discontinued and is not available as much and/or more expensive.
The answers to most of your Tech Support questions are in the OP. That's why you're not getting a reply. It's been answered before. Read the OP.

I bought a Catleap Q270 because of this thread and it's amazing. Mine came with no dead pixels but I can't seem to overclock it higher than 66hz. Good/bad luck?

Only old models can do that. New models are using a different, cheaper internal electronics. The Koreans have caught on that they were giving you free features and of course we definitely can't have that!

after reading some threads and reviews, i think about getting one of these:
ThinkVision LT2452p - Lenovo 295€
Dell UltraSharp U2412M 280€
Dell U2312HM 184€
Are the top 2 monitors worth the price difference (cost effective).

Whether 120 extra vertical pixels is worth it depends on the individual.

For working, 120 extra vertical pixels is a godsend, but those 120 vertical pixels are actually horizontal, because I flip the monitors 90 degrees.

Gaming-wise, you lose a bit of visible stuff on the sides with 16:10, don't you? I think that games crop out the sides when you're on a non-16: 9 monitor. I suppose that does mean you have higher pixel density for the stuff you do see - clearer picture? I dunno.

Some insight into this would be nice, I have no experience with bigger monitors for gaming.

It kind of is but isn't. I kind of compared overdrive/AMA/pixel response boost with overclocking to make it a bit easier to understand.

The only game where you lose visibility with a 16:10 monitor is p.much Starcraft 2 because Blizzard is retarded. If you are playing a console game, 16: 9 images will either be stretched or scaled properly with added 60px tall black bars. Either way, you do not lose any content.

Either way, you should be able to scale Starcraft 2@1920x1080 on a 16:10 monitor properly. If your monitor hasn't got 1:1 or 16: 9 scaling options, your GPU should be able to force it.

Pixel density difference between a 24" 16:10 monitor and a 23" 16: 9 monitor will be close to non-existent. The size and resolution is far too similar. So image quality won't really be different.

What would be good glossy alternatives to the Dell Ultrasharps, mainly in the 23" - 24" ranges?

There is none sans the 24" Apple Cinema Display. There is a semi-glossy display (if you do not mind) in the form of the Samsung S24A850, though try and buy from a place with a good return policy because the build quality is quite poor and backlight bleeding can be quite horrible.

Ahh, I see, thanks. Is there somewhere where I could find a more extensive comparison list for ips monitors, the one in this thread is superb, but has just a few Dell/Samsung models basically, and I really want to do my research, before I get one. Asus, Philips, IIYAMA, LG, which ones have reputed good build quality or at least good support, and what about the responsiveness of the monitors.

Also I did some research and thought this might be of interest to someone who dares to brave the waters of warranty voidness:

I don't think there's a comprehensive comparison list but you can check prad.de and tftcentral.co.uk for individual reviews which will have a comparison of some sort for input lag and response time.

Heya guys, didnt really want to make a whole different thread out of this because its kind of a minor problem but anyway. I was messing with some eyefinity settings in the AMD Catalyst control center and then all of a sudden appears black bars around the side of my main monitor, about one inch thick.

How do i reset all the settings i have made through the catalyst control center?
If i can't do that, how do i fix this problem?

You can check reviews. Generally look at the price point of the monitors. A $200 IPS will be very similar to another $200 IPS electronically and in performance. The listed monitors are p.much the best out there, not much point bothering with Iiyama or LG because they are simply not better than the competition unless you want LG's passive 3D. Philips can be good but their overdrive application in the past have been absolutely trash...a shame because they have a pretty good TV lineup.

The only real omission, I think, would be Eizo. The Eizo FS2332 and EV2335 are easily the best 23" IPS/PLS monitor on the market but also cost like twice as much as their competitors. Considering this is Teamliquid, a place that is horrified at the prices Apple charges for hardware for some reason, there is no reason to recommend them.

I wouldn't bother with the antiglare removal. Not only voids warranty but also requires babysitting of the polariser because the antiglare is the actual protective layer. Totally not worth the effort, I'd seriously just buy an Apple Cinema Display + video I/O box if you want to do that to a Dell U2711. If you can afford a U2711, you're wealthy enough to afford a few hundred more for a better solution.
