Perhaps you can use some kind of mail-forwarding service like MyUS or one of the others.

http://www.artisan-jp.com/item_hayate.html this is their new site. the gup one hasnt been working for a while now. use google translate.
or go to http://www.amazon.co.jp/ and sign in with your normal amazon account. you can set the page to english at the top right. then just search for artisan hayate. no idea what the shipping cost is tho.

The hien isn't a plastic pad, its cloth with a rougher texture than their other models. The shiden-kai is cloth with a glass coating (I think its some sort of spray with glass fibers, its not actual glass) Also, if anyone is curious, the difference between soft, hard etc. is just how dense the foam is, nothing to do with the surface of the pad.
They are hard to get hold of outside of japan, amazon is the only one i know of. I think they are setting up an international site which will ship basically everywhere, but that may take forever...
Perhaps you could have someone in the us ship it to you.

Can you provide the e-mail address here? I couldn't find it.
Also, have you gotten the beta-mouse from ESR?

They have an English/Oversea section now: http://www.artisan-jp.com/all_eng.html If you pick a mouse pad and use the Add Cart button where you pick colour and size, you are given options for international shipping, but if you use the red Shopping Cart button at the top, it takes you to the Japanese cart.
