I had a steelseries 6gv2 (black switches) for about 4 months and secretly i hated it. Few days ago i bought a Filco Majestouch-2 with blue switches and it's like having sex with my keyboard when i type. Stay away from black switch mechanical keyboards they are so horrible to type/game on!

When I've tried them I liked them, it's mostly a matter of personal preference but that's why we always recommend that you try different switch types before you buy. Been very satisfied with browns and thinking of getting reds eventually.

Well if sound is really an issue with you regarding keyboards, I suggest using Browns especially when you type lightly and you don't bottom out. :D

Actually I like having Blues or Blacks as well but I read that it has some issues with double tapping so I went with Browns which is a cross of both in a way.

Okay, yeah, it seems fine really.

I'm just not sure what brand & model to go for. I just want backlit keys, good quality, <no razer ever>, some multimedia buttons (mostly just volume up/down/mute), and for it to be transportable, since I go to LANs... Also, nordic layout!

I hate being indecisive...

For backlighting the Ducky Shine is the best out there now, but the new Qpad is looking promising. Not many reviews on it though.

Which is the new one, and why is it promising?

Are mechanical keyboards much more durable than membrane? My logitech G15 has lasted me OVER 4 years with 100% buttons still working, LED working etc. I play 4-8 hours a day...

I think it's more durable than most mechanical keyboards..

I had mine for about a year. I don't think there exists another keyboard made more tasteful.

From what I read

membrane: Not durable - 1 to 10 million keystrokes
scissors: Can be more durable - 1 to 20 million keystrokes
mechanical: Very durable - 20 to 50 million keystrokes

Considering people still use IBM Model M keyboards from the 80s... Durabilitity is not just about the keyboard still registering keypresses either. It's about keeping the feel of the keys consistent over its lifetime, somethat that mechanical keyboards do very well as opposed to the mushy feeling of old rubberdomes.

Anyone know how the Razer Lycosa keys feel compared to cherry MX Reds/Blacks? I'm debating which type of key I want, but I dont have the opportunity to try any out.

Erm sorry but I strongly disagree with this, and I've got a 6gv2. Black switches are so awkward to play sc2 on, in say a long macro game 20-30mins you're hand actually start getting really tired because pressing keys do require quite some force to press. Blue switches are just so soft to type on and the clicky sound they make is awsome. Don't buy black switches for gaming!

Very much so.Your membrane board may still work the same amount of time, but the membrane deteriorates. Switches don't deteriorate. Also, many membrane boards (pretty much all) are fitted onto sheets of plastic. Mechanical board switches are fitted onto a solid piece of steel, so say you are taking your keyboard to a LAN it won't suffer if it bangs against a train seat or in a luggage compartment.

Glide your fingers over a mechanical keyboard and you'll be tempted to put a foot through that membrane crap you got at home.

Does anyone have any information on the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid? I'm very interested in it but would prefer to have a keyboard sooner rather than later, especially if the keyboard I would be waiting for isn't worth the wait to begin with.

Does the red edition only come with red switches? Or can I get blue switches with the red-edition keyboard design?
