I was wondering if anyone could help me out with buying a new keyboard? My birthday is coming up and that is something I would like to buy for myself. I right now have the Razer lycosa. It was great at first but after a few months it would randomly just stop working. I would be in a middle of a game and suddenly a key would stop working and then a minute later another then another. The only way I would be able to get it to work again is by restarting my computer. I am sick of having to do this and losing games because of this problem. So I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for a keyboard under $120? I was looking at the keyboards over at wasdkeyboards.com but I haven't found many reviews if they are good or not. I like them because they allow you to customize the keyboard which is something I would like to do but you can basically do that to any keyboard. It's also kind of pricey at $150 or more depending what you do to it. I mostly just play starcraft and type every once in a while I might play WoW. Any help would be great thank you.

I have one, and I can vouch for them. Decent price, very solid construction, and they are just so damn sleek and simple.
Always here to help.

They apparently don't ship to Canada from amazon :[

EDIT: Essentially, i'm looking for a full white mechanical keyboard. If anyone could link me to where I can buy one that would be great. I found one on ebay called "white noppoo" and it's said to have POM keycaps and I don't know what that is, can anyone tell me the difference between a POM keycap and .... a keycap from say, the Blackwidow or Steelserives 6gv2? thx!

You're probably talking about this: noppoo choc mini white which is exactly the keyboard I ordered just a week ago.

The choc mini comes in white and black versions. The white one has PBT keycaps which are a bit thicker than the POM ones that they use on the black model - which are themselves thicker (to my knowledge) than the keycaps on most keyboards. The PBT ones are also a bit more heat resistant, which matters if you plan to dye your keys (not recommended).

It looks like a perfect starcraft board to me with the brown switches, very conveniently located F keys (!) and lack of the needless numpad, which is exactly why I bought it.

There's also a noppoo choc pro, I believe, which has the numpad and I think might be backlit?

choc mini user here. i went with the pom keycaps and i absolutely love the feel of them, but they are extremely brittle and i worry that it hurts the durability of the keycaps. the overall feel is slippery and smooth. typing on it kind of gives a "numb" fingertip sensation and skin has absolutely no traction on the pom material.

i can't speak for the PBT version, but compared to my black widow, the pom keys are annoyingly loud as well. they clack with a thin plasticky noise a lot when you bottom out and it actually is louder the blue clicking of the BW at full speed. the pom keys have a slight wiggle, but both my mechanical keyboards do. it's a little worse on the BW but not by far.

WASD is great, I can definitely vouch for them. But they are really only worth it if you get a full custom because they are decently pricey.

You can get noppoos in China at tech markets, or off of Chinese websites, e.g. taobao.com. Presumably there are places where you can get people to buy ones off of taobao for you and ship them. One of my coworkers wanted to get one for work, and he found a place that sells them for only like 60~80% more expensive than in China ($80~$100).

I saw the newegg.com presentation of the Cooler Master Quickfire and i can't really say i was impressed. It looked cheap and very plastic. And you attach the cable to the keyboard instead of it being built in. And those red wasd caps looked extremely cheap.

The design screams "HEY IM A GAMING KEYBOARD PLEASE BUY ME!".

Not for me at all. Some people might like it though. Seems like an affordable mechanical keyboard atleast (although very cheap impression).

I have a Rosewill mechanical keyboard that looks almost identical to the one you mentioned. Mine is this one. It is definitely not cheap, and the detachable cable is most certainly a plus. The Cooler Master is 20 bucks cheaper, so there might be a slight difference in quality. And if you think that one is showy, have you seen Razers keyboards? Talk about screaming "I'm a gaming keyboard."

Yeah i can see the detachable keyboard as a nice feature when you move it or take it with you so that it takes less space in your bag and doesn't make a big mess of the cord. BUT....... it feels cheap. I might sound ridiculous but that's just my opinion. I like my stuff to be solid and built in (not separate).

The silver/gray finish is pretty nice though. I would like a keyboard with a very silverish design and black keys. Maybe add yellow leds to that wich gives a bit of a golden light. I dunno ^^

Plz don't mention Corsairs silver keyboards now because they look retarded and have rubber dome keys mixed with mechanical. And it's not even the kind of silver color im looking for.

Getting sick of my blackwidow and thinking of upgrading to a filco majestouch 2 or majestouch ninja, is there any difference beyond the printing on the keycaps?
Also does anyone have experience with the keycap remover? and if so is it actually useful?

Lol im also upgrading from a Blackwidow to a Filco ^^ I gave up on Ducky because Filco seems just as good or even better and is easier to get a hold of.

I recommend you visit http://www.keyboardco.com/ wich is the only place in europe who sells Filco with swedish layout. You can mail them there about the difference. When i mailed them i got a very quick answer.

That a keycap remover is useful is a nobrainer. It's self-explanatory. Key-Cap-Remover! Better than using your fingers.

If you buy a Ninja you get the following accessories: The Ninja comes with 2 sets of Windows keys 1 set top printed, 1 set front printed, and a key puller to help you change the keys. This goes for both the normal version and the tenkeyless version.

If you wan't the non-ninja version you have to buy your accessories separate if you need them.

Thanks for the answer, i guess that justifies the small price difference if you get the key-cap remover included!
The windows key being front printed is definitely a big plus, dont really like the design of it on the non-ninja version.

np man. Just make sure before you buy your keyboard that you are 100% sure if you want the "normal" keyboard or the ninja. Because once you have bought it you can't change your mind.

For example the ninja doesn't have the golden Filco logo on top instead it has a somewhat "invisible" Filco logo instead. Maybe it's not a big deal for you though. You should check out the different versions and also search on youtube for reviews on them.

I've bought Steelseries 6gv2 and just want to say some for those who are thinking about buy one: Keyboard is great, its solid, feels great to play and type, reaction time is really fast, and i love it. Unfortunately, its true about fading letters on keycaps. Im using keyboard for about 2 weeks, and already some letters are fading/darkening. Besides this little issue i would absolutely reccomend 6gv2

P.s. I think it's not true, that keys are hard to press, but maybe its only me

Maybe it depends on how hard you press. Iv'e heard from a youtube review that it can get a bit tireing for your fingers if you type for a longer while.

But it doesn't seem like bad keyboard no. It's pretty cheap aswell. Although i don't like Steelseries at all.

All switches are a matter of preference but each switch has its own advantages to certain key presses.

Well hello there! Lol. Was just about to ask about the Ducky Shine.

I want a mechanical keyboard but I want backlit keys which limits things. I also don't want clicky keys so that basically narrows it down to the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth Edition for $130 and the Ducky Shine for $142 from tigerimports both with Cherry MB Browns.

I prefer the Ducky with purple LEDs because it looks cooler than blue so that's a plus in the Ducky department. I also have a Razer mouse that I'm pretty disappointed with which makes me want to steer clear. Plus the lack of the macro keys on the left is a bonus since it shrinks it some. I currently have the old aircraft carrier G15 with 18 macros and I never ever use those things.

Was curious how the ducky was, if you get that problem fixed.

hey guys my keyboard is garbage... so im looking to get a new one anyways so i might as well get a gaming one... i was thinking about the blackwidow ultimate ... mostly just to match my razer naga... but after reading a few pages of this thread seem like there might be better choices out there... so my question , is the black widow a good keyboard? ive looked a little into key switches and think i want to get the browns, any suggestion dont want to spend more than 175 but if there is a keyboard that is absolutly worth more than 175 please let me know, i dont want to have to upgrade again...Thanks in advance

From research apparently the spring sound is "ping" and it's very common with mechanical keyboards. I haven't found a solution to it yet, but it's really not that bad. I personally still recommend the ducky shine and i ordered it from tigerimports. It's a very comfortable and amazing keyboard other than my T key pinging. Another thing that annoy you are the shift keys being below the numbers such as ^ being below 6, * below 8 > below ., etc.... But you get used to it.

Ah, the modifier being above or below doesn't matter much to me. I never look at it anyway, if I'm using a character I don't use much I just keep mashing around till I find the right one lol.

Might have to order one up, too bad they're back ordered =P

BTW, is it pretty loud once you get going? In the heat of things I press pretty hard and such but I really hate noisy keyboards. Was thinking about picking some of these up if it was super annoying. cherry mx rubber switch dampeners

I use the mx cherry red version. I came from a steelseries 7g, imo the noise of the keys isn't anything too bad. That ping though is annoying if I'm just typing on something like msn lol.
