My SSD died this afternoon. I am trying to install my OS on my harddrive, but whenever I boot it gives me a 0xc000000e Boot Error (which makes sense because windows is not on this hard drive). I want to wipe this harddrive and install windows on it, but I don't see any option to do this. When I put the boot order to boot from the CD it immediately goes to a windows recovery tool which is completely useless and does nothing.

How do I wipe the harddrive and reinstall windows instead of going to the recovery tool?

or I make it to the install windows and my keyboard/mouse do not work so I can't install windows.

Nevermind figured it out. USB 3.0 ports don't work apparently.

Can't figure this one out.
Using a default issued gateway [ network + router ] from cox. Monster internet speeds for residential area, like 50mb down 30up. When I use two ports via ethernet modem both computer lag when playing dota2. But if only one computer is turned on and playing dota2, even if other devices like cellphones and tablets are streaming video there is no lag. Also one computer gets consistently better speeds than another.

I hate networking. I tried to hook up a standalone tomato-installed router but it won't work since the Cox gateway has its own software and can't be put into bridge mode.

I just recently updated my laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I am trying to play cs:go in 4:3 stretched, so I figured the settings will be in the nvidia control panel, but unfortunately the only settings i can see are the 3d settings.

Is there any fix for this? Or am I just shit out of luck and will have to either go back to windows 7 and just wait out for newer drivers.

try reinstalling drivers? Win10 especially with graphics drivers still seems to be in alpha/beta stage

Perhaps this version of the NVIDIA thingy gets the list of available resolutions from what's configured in the Intel settings tool for the integrated graphics? You might trick it into working by adding your resolution over there.

I'm planning on slowly upgrading my computer, buying an
ASUS Z97-A ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboard Z97-A and
Intel Core i5-4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 eventually.

I was told that I would have to reformat my computer after getting these because Windows was installed on my old hardware or something along those lines.

If this is true and I plan on buying the motherboard and installing it before I get the CPU will I need to reformat each time I install a new piece of hardware?

People report seeing both. Sometimes Windows does not boot after being moved to a different machine and you have to install again or repair, sometimes everything just works.

Windows 8 seems to be more robust about this. It seems people report more problems with this about Windows 7.

It might happen that Windows works but has to be activated again. How to do that is explained after clicking on where it says that it's not activated. It involves calling a free number where a robot will answer. You will have to type a code on the phone's number pad and will get a code for the PC.

I don't know what the activation problem means for the free Windows 10 upgrade. It might mean reinstalling Windows 7 or 8 and then upgrading again.

It's changing the motherboard that's the problem, not really any other hardware.

Microsoft are crazy and/or incompetent when it comes to people changing anything with their computers and product keys - http://imgur.com/a/6v0jx - that's just one example but i've seen too many.

It's such a dumb way of keeping track of key activations. If I'm not remembering horribly, there was a big deal about games having activations tied to hardware ID's as well, which meant that changing hardware as part of an upgrade rendered the codes invalid.

That's funny, I was going to do the exact same thing as the guy in Cyro's post - got W10 on my laptop to test drive before considering it for my PC, decided I hate the slow HDD and want to get SSD so I got a program to pull my original W8.1 and new W10 serial numbers thinking it'd work fine if I reinstalled later (I haven't ordered the SSD yet). Guess not!

So how do you go about upgrading your hard drive, then?

The key you found on your Windows 10 is not unique. If you try to Google for it, you will find the same one posted online by other people.

In the Windows 10 installation program, you are supposed to skip entering a product key. It will continue installing without a key. After installation is done and the new Windows boots, it creates some sort of fingerprint of the machine it's on and contacts the Microsoft activation servers. It will then activate if your machine is already known from a previous Windows 10 upgrade.

People say that the main thing about that fingerprint is the motherboard. It should still activate on your laptop after you have changed the drive.

Everyone is changing mobo now because skylake

Same system though, same hdd, ssd, gpu, case, coolers and such (even same RAM sometimes) but the mobo+cpu combination breaks everything. Seems like microsoft support is set up only to help those who bought an OEM PC off the shelf and never touched it

I recently got a new video card. Before somebody set 2 video cards working together. (crossfire?) anyways. I know you have to adjust stuff to run that, but if I want to go from 2 to one do I simply plug in the new one?

I think you mis-understood. It was already set up in crossfire mode. Somebody had previously set it up for me. However, now I have a single much stronger (gtx 960) card that I want to use instead of the crossfire set up. If I want to only use my one new card can I simply unplug the previous setup up plug the new one in and it will work?

Yeah i did sorry ~ You might want to uninstall your GPU drivers from safe mode and then power off before removing your old ones, going cross-brand can be a little bit awkward if you still have old software from the other brand installed.

I usually use one of them there driver remover programs (I forget the name). The one I used has the option to power off after removing the driver, at which point you can swap in the new card. Lets you swap without having Windows trying to fight with drivers from two vendors.
