TLDR: What is the best way of getting a 64 bit OS on a brand new system with a student discount since microsoft only seems to sell win 8 upgrade packs. (would prefer to have win 7 but will take win 8 if it ends up being cheaper) Products I own and could lend him: Win Vista OEM System Builder Pack 32bit, and a Win 7 Upgrade with both 32bit and 64 bit cd's He also currently owns a laptop with either win vista or win 7 Will edit which one when I find out, which maybe there is a way to transfer it to a new pc legally.

You can use the upgrade media to install Windows on a brand new PC, usually no workarounds are needed. Thanks for the speedy reply skyR, now by the upgrade media are you refering to my win 7 upgrade disk that I own and if so I have used that product key on my own system, so will that still be accepted or are we able to get another key from Microsoft via telephone

Both times I bought W7 at my school they swore up and down they were upgrade-only and claimed you would need Vista already installed (XP wasn't allowed, though some Internet sources said otherwise). Anyway, I got one copy of W7 Pro and one of Ultimate and both are full versions that have been installed several times on naked PCs. I think it was $25 for each, but it might've been $15.

No, I've got it turned vertically because of the limited space and I don't like it going under my keyboard. Could that be why it keeps slipping?.. I went ahead and placed an order for Steelseries 4HD, it seems that one has a bottom surface that's supposed to slip less but if that don't cut it then I guess I'll have to have it turned the way it's supposed to although with half of it sticking under my keyboard.

I wouldnt really reccomend indiscriminately changing from cloth to plastic pad if you care a lot about the mouse's performance. Most of the time either cloth or plastic is "better performing" for a particular mouse sensor

I tried all the obvious things: got latest drivers of everything, all game & OS updates, reinstalling the game, different quality settings in the game from low to ultra, forcing on variables.txt, different resolutions/refresh rate/vertical sync... nothing seems to work. Normally I wouldn't care, but with such limited hardware windowed is affecting performance. So, here's my question(s): * Anyone experienced this and found any solution? * Does SC2 generate any error logs that could give me a clue? I'm sure it's just the bad combo of new OS + new win 8 direct X version + crappy new intel drivers, but thought maybe someone else had this too (tried searching around the forum and didn't find anything)... thanks in advance!

Anyway, it seems the new ones are a bit louder on the right (or at least I think so, my old ones felt balanced when they worked). This is in Windows 7: Click speaker icon, then I click the speaker icon (the big one above the sound bar that shows up) again to go into "Speaker Properties", then click levels, then click balance. For some reason, I notice the sounds never stay balanced. For example, it says on left, 13, while on right, 14. I try to adjust it to 13/13, except it goes to 13/12 (I set it to 13/13, then close it, then open it again, it's 13/12). What gives? Is it supposed to do that >.>? Edit - This is Realtek HD audio output (from an audio jack, not usb). Also, I just noticed it seems to only happen on certain volumes. At 48 for example, I click balance and check and see it's 48/48. But at 27, I notice it's 27/26. At 14 (normally I set it to this), it's 13/14. Edit 2 - Well, I busted out my Sennheiser HD-280 and can confirm that it is the headphones (the one that I bought, the Sennheiser are backup ones that I have and only use for the TV / PS3, I usually just use logitech clearchat for PC). (Yes, the Logitech Clearchat Premium is a cheap and badly rated headset but when it works, it sounds good and I like the design.) Still though, why doesn't the audio balance stay consistent? When I set my volume to 14, I check the balance, it's 13/14. When I try to set it to 13/13 or 14/14, then close it, then open it, it goes back to being one volume off in either left or right. What's going on >.< ? Again, Realtek HD audio output (from an audio jack).

Same thing with the cursor..it's not locked inside my main monitor (i've dual monitor setup), meaning if i scroll the cursor to the right side of the screen, it'll just float over to my other monitor's desktop. Only when I do some equivalent of alt tabbing out of the game and going back in, will it work properly, not having these bugs. But next time I run SC2, the same thing happens all over again. What's going on? How do I prevent this? I think it's something to do with how it's a Windowed (Fullscreen) mode rather than true Fullscreen. But I hate true Fullscreen cus it takes forever to alt tab back and forth for me.

Most of the time either cloth or plastic is "better performing" for a particular mouse sensor Yes I really do have a small desk, I need to get a new one. But for now a new mouse pad is the only economically viable option. ![]() You think the plastic 4HD will not be a good match for my DeathAdder? I read around a bit and most people say that it's flawless on either the 4HD and QcK.

It only works properly (meaning it disables the Windows key properly) after it failed once and I alt tab back in. Or if I pre-emptively alt tab out of the game and go back in, will it work. But it's annoying to have to remember to do this every time I run SC2. But I hate true Fullscreen cus it takes forever to alt tab back and forth for me. One cause of this is because you clicked 'Play' and then clicked somewhere else on the desktop before the game actually launches (essentially alt tabbing yourself). So it might be because you're just doing this (as you wait for the game to load) intentionally or other software is doing this.
