Is this a good deal for a gaming laptop? I am in no rush to buy one but don't wanna miss out on a good ideal either. It's a Samsung 7 Series laptop, comes out to $1400 with tax. Reviews I read so far are pretty good even when it was sold at higher price point. Here are the specs Intel Core i7 3630QM 2.40 GHz AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB graphics card 8 GB DDR3 1 TB HDD Windows 8 Thanks in advance

I cant really comment on price, build quality etc, but it looks at least decent

7870M, obviously. That's like a desktop HD 7770 underclocked to 80%. Performance is maybe only some 30% better than the common GT 650M, a little less than that when compared to GTX 660M. Similar laptops with 1080p, 17.3", i7-3630QM or similar, and one of those GPUs instead should be under $1000. The cooling on the Samsung looks good though, and build quality is probably higher. But this is already past the point on laptops where price starts to balloon up. If a little crappier plasticky build and higher noise levels are no problem, I'd just point out that you can get better specs for a similar or lower price. Clevo P170EM here with GTX 670MX (maybe 25% faster than HD 7870M roughly?): http://rjtech.com/shop/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30107 Note the free promo $100 off, a few free upgrades there. Just saying that actual Samsung 7 Series kind of products are generally not competitive on specs / price because the laptop as a whole is probably a bit better. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834310661 1100$ same CPU, equivalent GPU (the 7870m is slightly slower then a normal hd7700) and comes with a 16gb SSD for your OS or (open box though) : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834227044R 975$ very slightly inferior CPU, better GPU both have 1080p screens

I might buy the open box one, I never had any issues with refurbished etc @Myrmidon I need a gaming laptop for when I can not play on my PC, which is located in the bedroom (small apartment). I need something compact I can use in other rooms if I'm in the mood for gaming and do not want to disturb others. Thank you for the tips as well, I'm glad I came here before pulling the trigger ![]()

I have an alienware m17 r1 laptop and there is this noise coming from either fan or HD (probably fan). It sounds like scrolling the mouse wheel REALLY fast and x100 sound I opened the laptop and cleaned it out pretty well but it doesn't help. I'm pretty sure it's the fan but I don't know how to make it stop. Is my only option to tear the fan out and possibly replace it? Can I just command it to stop? This noise is driving me insane.

Definitly not a power hungry computer but i need something reliable and not too noisy. The choices available at the closest store (don't have time to ship) are: COOLER MASTER - Elite Power 400 ANTEC - Neo ECO 400C AKASA - ESSENTIAL PLUS 550W The Antec is the best pick because it's a Seasonic rebrand imrite ? edit: and certified 80

Yes, the Antec is by far the best of the 3.

Are all the motherboards/connectors side by side where if both cards take up 2 slots they end up right up against each other? For those that are close like that, isn't this a major heat issue where the "inside" one isn't venting heat well and the "outside" one is also getting extra heat being pushed onto its backside?

These days, if an ATX motherboard has (at least) a second PCIe x16 slot, it is usually three positions below the first one, not two. Generally they're in positions 2 and 5, if you want to think of it that way. On microATX, it's usually 1 and 3, so yes two graphics cards would be crammed next to each other. Even with 3-slot spacing, with most dual-slot video cards in such a setup, airflow and cooling are still big issues. A 1-slot gap is a lot better than no slots, but it's still a challenge. As mentioned above, blower-style (case exhausting) cooler designs are a good idea for that kind of config. The ability to deal decently with multi-GPU cooling (at more reasonable noise levels) is probably objectively the biggest motivation to use custom water cooling in a desktop computer. That said, the cost of such kit is of course not low, both in terms of money and time.

Do you have two good pictures for blower vs non-blower style? I'm pretty sure I know what you mean, but I want to be sure.
