First game on ladder tonight was still pretty rough and I was very conscious of controlling my mouse properly. By the 2nd and 3rd game though I was pretty close to my normal level of play. | ||

I've been using 1000dpi but thought maybe I was sacrificing too much accuracy. OK, I'll try lowering the dpi a little bit and see if I can adjust. I couldn't tell the difference between 500hz and 1000hz. I wasn't sure if anyone else could. | ||

It's not a big deal on 60hz, but it's important for higher refresh rates. 500/143 = 3.5 polls per frame - that is, with a 2000 pixel per second movement, one screen refresh would show a 12 pixel movement, while the next one would show a 16 pixel movement, then 12 pixels, then 16 pixels etc - it's visibly slightly unsmooth, particularly if you have a low motion blur setup. 1000/143 = 7 polls per frame, consistently moving at the same rate. The 1ms difference in latency, with no other change, would be imperceptible. Aliasing between different polling rates (screen refresh vs mouse poll) and other effects like even the tracking of the mouse sometimes being affected make it an important setting, however - and you should default to 1000hz unless there's a major problem with it | ||

You're just used to controlling the mouse with different parts of the hand, wrist and maybe lower arm. @600-800dpi, going side to side across the entire screen quickly can be a movement from my elbow without using the wrist or fingers at all, and that's not something that people naturally do at higher DPI - they usually only pivot the wrist to cross screen. If you suddenly switch down and you're not using movements like that, it will feel slow and hard to make cursor do what you want in a short amount of time, but it's just a matter of figuring out what to do with your hand to make it fast and natural (and high sensitivities are less reliant on decent posture etc, that's another thing) Also, if your sensitivity is not on 6/11 with enhanced pointer precision turned OFF in windows, and sensitivity disabled in sc2 (or 51-54%) then you can easily be confused, as either one of those sensitivities being even one notch off can make your cursor 1.5x faster or a quarter slower than it should be at that DPI | ||

However this is my first gaming mouse and I've been using an LMO cranked up to 10/11 in windows for years, I just adapted to it. I understand your point though, I've just never gotten my whole forearm involved in my mouse movement. | ||

1. What's your grip style? fingertip or some hybrid of fingertip/claw 2. What's your sensitivity? high 3. What's your maximum budget? open for anything that suits my needs, but the cheaper the better 4. Do you want additional buttons? preferably only 2 extra buttons, 1 on each side 5. What games do you play? SC2, LoL, WoW 6. Do you mind angle snapping? Sounds like a bother, but I really don't know. 7. Other relevant information: I want a simple mouse with a good sensor that will last me a while. I don't like the giant/clunky designs that I mostly seem to find when looking for mice. | ||
