My dad mentioned he might want a mouse for christmas so looking for some recommendations. He just got me a G400s so probably won't get him that.

1. What's your grip style?
-I imagine it's palm/claw, he has GIANT hands (g400s is small in my hands, and his are way bigger than mine)
2. What's your sensitivity?
-Probably low-medium
3. What's your maximum budget?
-I'd like to keep it under 50
4. Do you want additional buttons?
-5 button should be enough
5. What games do you play?
-He doesn't play any games. Be mostly for work, browsing, etc.
6. Do you mind angle snapping?

7. Other relevant information:
Basically looking for an upgrade from a standard mouse, something comfortable and practical and a bit 'cooler'. He's not a gamer but likes techy things.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

I agree that the mousewheel is somewhat subjective, but as Cyro pointed out, there is a clear difference, out of all the mice ive tried the intellie has the easiest to press scrollwheel, followed by my current sensei, and then the deathadder 3.5g, which is slighly harder to press. When i played WoW back in the day i remember having my Mortal Strike on my scrollwheel (i know weird as fuck, really) and on my Deathadder it would start to get annoying after a few arena games, while with my old intellie mouse it was really easy and much more comfortable.

Now in dota i use it to look around the map constantly and in cs;go i use it to swap from current weapon/gun to previous, in these cases (imo) there is no reason not to look for a mouse with a lighter to press scroll-wheel.

Anyone have experience with the steelseries sensi mouse? I used to have a Xai which died a painful death. I had my pc tower on a shelf above my monitor, the shelf broke and the tower fell, just managed to get my hands out in time before i lost a finger! and also my keyboard cracked in two at the same time! I thought "It's time for change" and bought a razer death adder. I regret not taking it back to be honest. The scroll wheel broke within 3 months, the mouse feels cheap and tacky, and the forced software is awful. I have to wait for it to connect to the internet and sign in before i can get my profile for sensitivity, what the fuck is that about? I really don't understand how people tolerate let alone praise this mouse ><.

Anyways i found out the Xai isn't sold anymore, I absolutely adored that mouse no idea what i was smoking when i didnt just replace it like for like. I heard the Sensi is the successor. How similar is it to the Xai? Should i get the MLG/pro-team version? (I can afford to just wondering the differences) Anyone had any issues with it?

The sensei's sensor is meh, maybe take a look at the zowie FK series? Only downside is that the clicks are pretty hard, which isn't ideal for RTS use.

my sensei didnt work properly on my cloth mousepad.

The shape is symmetrical, so not really ergonomic and the surface became slippery in the summer.

Question: Is there some way to get my mouse cursor to move at 1/5 of the DPI input from the mouse?

I play Starcraft Brood War, and in the past used 400 and 450 DPI mice. I´m experimenting now with a mouse with 2000, 1000 and 500 DPI, and 500 feels a bit too fast. But 1/5 of 2000 DPI should be exactly 400 DPI

@Yorbon - i think it's hard to diagnose as a mouse issue, maybe there is some xornet quirk that i am unaware of. That stuff doesn't usually get worse over time, so that leads me to think it could be something like a performance issue on your system or something almost entirely unrelated like the posture that you are using being not quite the same. It's quite hard to actually help there, you wouldn't know if another mouse was truly better without at least weeks of practice

I seem to be more precise at 5/11 -> 375 DPI than at 500 DPI, but this option makes the perfectionist in me cringe a little.

Maybe if I use 2000 DPI and 5/11, and find some secondary utility to make the cursor move at 1/4 of the result of this, without interfering with the windows-setting. I guess this will make the results of going 5/11 less serious.

If you drag the cursor in a line, this is what happens: (1 = moved, 0 = not moved)

6/11 = 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 (always moving)
4/11 = 1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1 (every second count, it moves consistently)
5/11 = 1-1-1-0-1-1-1-0-1-1-1-0-1-1-1-0-1-1-1 (moves for three counts, stops for one, moves for three counts, stops for one)

that presents as noticable microstutter, particularly when using a display with a low amount of motion blur. Over distances more than double digit pixels it kinda averages out into not mattering, but the microstutter remains and causes some minor issues

It´s really not bad at all. When I move the cursor around in windows, I kind of think it moves funny, but maybe that´s because I expect it to. In games, I didn´t think about it.

I'm more wondering based on pure lifespan that most mice have. I've only seen the logitech g400s say the switches are rated for like 5.2 million clicks. I'm assuming this means until it dies, but I'm sure it's better to replace the mouse before then? Not many other mice give the lifespan of the switches.

I already have a mico. I started using an apm program with Age of Kings, and I figured out I have about 1.6 million clicks on this mouse already in about 3 months just from playing that game. So about 800k clicks on each mouse button if they're evenly split, but I'd guess it's skewed towards 2/3 of the clicks on the right mouse button. I'm not sure how many clicks I have otherwise, but I spam click the mouse a lot when I'm on the pc in general.

That being said, I'm sure a lot of people that game have 5+ million clicks on their mouse and don't replace it until it totally dies?

lol pretty sure after 5.2 million clicks on the MiCO, it might finally feel like a normal mouse click. that's probably how long it takes to break the buttonss in xD

LOL, actually....

It's really broken in right now. I miss the stuff clicks. The right mouse button doesn't press if I click on the side of the mouse by the white part, but it might have always been like that.

I'm a huge mouse whore. I've tried getting used to a deathadder chroma, g9x, and cm storm spawn, among others, but the mico is the only mouse that feels natural to the point where I forget I'm using it while playing.

Still, a true LMO with higher dpi would be heaven.

50 quid, perhaps a little more for ticking every box

4. Do you want additional buttons?
sides only, I guess sniper toggle might be nice, but wont be a deal breaker if missing

5. What games do you play?
sc2, offline stuff like metro last light, whatever steam has on sale basically RTS 90% of the time.

6. Do you mind angle snapping?
software configuration to enable/disable required

7. Other relevant information:
Must have +weight option (am after a big heavy mouse frankly)
Dont want one of those free spinning scroll wheels, the solid clicky type only
Ambidextrous designs are a no-no. I'm right handed

No word of a lie, I just returned a g502 proteus to amazon over the weekend. Ticked every box, lovely mouse, except for the scroll wheel. I could blow on the scroll wheel to make it spin. No joke.

Frankly am not sure if it's intended, or was a hardware fualt - said as much in the return note to amazon. But for me it's a deal breaker. How could you play FPS with a scroll that spinny? You'd forever be changing weapons, assuming the scroll is bound to swap weapon.

Was that g502 a dud guys, or is the wheel intended to spin that freely?

I have a xornet mouse on my linux box (which is just my nas frankly), bit small / light, I also found the dpi keys easily pressed when in one of those oh shit just press any button situations. Which is why she got demoted to the other box!

Curently have a rival, only had it 2-3 weeks. Just after something a little chunkier and heavier.

I looked at the evga torq x10, seemed kind of interesting (dont know which sensor it has mind) But was a deal breaker as soon as I saw it was ambidextrous - had a sensei previously, which was returned for that very reason - too easy for me to hit the right hand side side-buttons by accident with the way I hold mice.

Almost bought the Zalman ZM-GM4 (aka knossos) Earlier, but one of you said 'poor sensor' (you know who you are!) So I cancelled that order.

Any of the R.A.T's any good, good/bad sensors? Reviews seem very variable on them.

Anyhoo, thanks for all your ideas will have a look at the storm, any other ideas appreciated. Maybe I should stop looking for issues where perhaps none exist.. And be greatful for what I have! The rival seems a decent cheese eater, but meh.. I'm a sucker for buying new tech.
