I use the wide grip.
The spawn looks like the kind of shell I'm looking for, but it's an optical mouse? I don't really know what kind of difference there is at the moment, but when I went from an optical mouse (which often jittered) to my old G7 I noticed a huge improvement.
There seems to be a load of conflicting opinions on optical vs laser, any recommended reading? At the moment I'd lean towards laser.

Optical's excellent. There's virtually no reason to prefer laser over optical. Generally laser is more likely to develop jitters/very minor problems (your experience notwithstanding), though it has the advantage of being able to select any DPI within the mouse's range rather than 2 or 3 presets. There should be no difference in accuracy/for gaming in higher-end mice like the ones we're mentioning. Individual sensor models are actually more important than the optical/laser question.
The storm spawn (800 or 1800 DPI) is well-reviewed, though I prefer the similar Mionix Naos 3200 (800 or 1600 dpi). Either one should perform well for you.

Cheers for the tips guys!

Who wants to help me pick out a mouse ? I think my ime 3.0 is dying since it randomly locks up and loses power completely and would like to replace it. I used a mx518 in the past and loved the shape but havent touched it in a long time since it died and my friend gave me the ime 3.0. I was looking into the g400s and the deathadder as replacements, but I havent been able to make up my mind yet. I read the g400s has a new sensor called the delta zero sensor but I havent been able to find much about this sensor, anyone know much about these 2 mice have any suggestions?
1. What's your grip style? Palm 2. What's your sensitivity? Low. (Use 400 dpi) 3. What's your maximum budget? ~60$ 4. Do you want additional buttons? Don't care about this. 5. What games do you play? sc2, csgo, dota2. 6. Do you mind angle snapping? No to angle snapping 7. Other relevant information: Preferably something durable, big enough for my medium-large hands, similar to ime 3.0 in size and shape.

deathadder 2013 is one mouse you can definitely look at. Its a great mouse for medium-large hand users. dpi can go as low as 400,the extra buttons aren't in the way but if you do use them they're incredibly help and it is a similar shape to the ime 3.0.
I tried several iterations of the deathadder (mac edition, 3.5, black and currently 2013) and the performance for each one? consistently good on all of them. The Deathadder is a tried and true gaming mouse.
There are similar mouses like the Zowie EC/AM and Steelseries Xai/Sensei but I haven't tried zowie and steelseries aren't too bad.

My old G5 recently broke down and I'm debating whether to replace it with a Logitech G500 (not the brand new one) or the Deathadder 2013.
The reasons for the G500 would be: - 10 euro cheaper (60 vs 70) - ability to unlock scroll wheel for browsing - third mouse button
What I don't like about the G500 is the weights and the DPI buttons, since I never use it. However what really makes me doubt my choice is that a lot of people swear by Deathadder and I'm really curious what makes it so awesome. Can anyone tell why Razor would be the better choice?

If you don't mind me asking, are you sure you're not using sensitivity multipliers? (windows above 6/11, sc2 above 51-54%) or mouse acceleration? (enhanced pointer precision ticked)
I've never seen anyone palm 400dpi before

No sir, no sensitivity multipliers for me (6/11, in game sensitivity disabled, maxed side scroll speed, no accel). I'm use to this setup from years of cs and can pretty much reach any part of my 1080p screen with one pivot swipe. I know sc2 is a different beast, but I dont need to side scroll much thanks to hotkeys and the minimap. I play terran too and have had no issues with bio/tank/medivac in wol or the new bio mine style.
@ MiyaviTeddy thanks for the input, I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase a Deathadder. Is there any differences in the sensor, correction/angle snapping etc, between the 2013 and the black edition or is just more dpi? Also is newegg my best bet to purchase one of these for a good price?

<3 <3 <3 so many people using too much DPI as a bandaid for bad mechanics
Black edition/3.5g have a different sensor to 2013, they're all solid AFAIK

@cyro @twilightrain thanks for the input again went ahead and ordered the 2013 one. Now I just need to wait for it in the mail. ^.^

Just picked up the logitech g9x. No idea why it's discontinued, apparently its the best mouse around. A huge percentage of the Korean Pro's use it.

They probably wanted to throw out a new version with a better sensor, i'd probably buy

Just a small review on the Razer oroborus.
The goods: + Customisation is really good imo, I love how you can change the sides because I hold my mouse quite low and I was basically gliding the bottom of my hand on the mouse pad when I use my deathadder. BUT no weight changes + Design (I love how cool it looks without being all about flashy lights). Put the mouse on the dock and it looks good enough for a decoration + a lot of macro keys. I personally don't use that many macro keys but some are just well placed enough for me to use it with ease. + Nice mouse scroll wheel. I love the texture on it, infinitely better than my deathadder. the only thing that is lacking is that it doesn't provide the smooth scrolling, you get the section by section scrolling instead. + Driver. The old Razer driver sucked hard, the deathadder gets random freeze every 5 seconds or so. The new one got cloud saving etcetc, as good as a driver needs to be imo.
- Battery doesn't last as long as expected imo. but I rarely use it for the wireless mode anyway. - For a premium priced mouse, the build quality is surprisingly bad. Not that it is having any issues but the general feel to it is not that great. I would say it's the plastic surface wasn't very nice to feel. - Price. I won't have gotten it if I weren't moving back and selling my PS3 and monitor. It's a huge price tag on some features that not everyone wants and needs

I have a Deathadder too, but I prefer the G500 shape for fingertip grip. If you use a different grip, it might feel better in your hand, but I just have it as a backup right now.

I have the Deathadder 2013 having previously had a Deathadder Black Edition and a Logitech G500. I love mine. Perfect size for my hand using a sort of palm / claw grip hybrid and the addition of the rubber on the sides is great for grip. The buttons are easy to click and it's a generally good mouse. I'm using 1200dpi on mine, 6400dpi is just ridiculous and a setting I don't think anyone in their right mind would use!

Just ordered a Logitech g9x, got it at around 80€ or $100
could get it cheaper if I ordered a MW3 version of it but that simply will not happen!
Heard a lot of good about this mouse and it can't get worse after using a horrible Steelseries mouse. Wow they make some trashy stuff.

1. What's your grip style? Claw 2. What's your sensitivity? Medium (1400 dpi on my G9) 3. What's your maximum budget? Ideally no more than £70. Would have to be truly exceptional above that 4. Do you want additional buttons? Must have comfortable and accessible thumb forward and back buttons 5. What games do you play? WoW, SC2 and Diablo 3 6. Do you mind angle snapping? No to angle snapping 7. Other relevant information: I prefer "blocky" designs more than Razer's curved mice. The scroll wheel has to be good - something that feels solid (not just a rubber ring) and doesn't skip or scroll unevenly. Prefer on board memory as I will be using it across multiple PCs.
Hey guys, coming back in for round 2 - turns out the CM storm spawn (which was recommended, and looked like a good fit for me) isn't available in the UK any more, and the few places I can find it are charging ridiculous prices to ship it from the States. So, back to the drawing board.
I've been looking at the cut down Xornet (which is still available), the DA 2013 and various Naos models. They all seem potentially suitable and I gather good quality sensors, but I'm a bit worried about build quality. I travel a fair bit and usually just bung my mouse and laptop into a backpack. I've read review for all of these that make me think they might not hold up too well (especially the DA). Anyone had experience with this?
Also any other suggestions for 5/7 button claw grip mice with a good scroll wheel would be appreciated!

Why don't you just get another G9(X)?
