I just ordered a Rosewill RX-9000 Blue switch and I cannot wait to get it. My GF accidentally spillt Pop on my Razer Lycosa (which kinda sucked anyways) so it gave me a excuse to buy a new Keyboard. So annoying playing on a keyboard where half the keys stick. I tried my best to clean it but some keys still do not work.
I am gonna be like a nerd on Christmas when this keyboard arrives. So excited.

Over the past 2 weeks I've been doing some basic research on Mech Keyboards because I'm extremely interested in them and want to buy one soon. Here's my options and reasoning's behind them. I'll put them in a spoiler tag so the post isn't too long if you don't want to read it. + Show Spoiler + Filco Majestouch Blue Switch. This was my first choice but I think the sound would be too annoying to the people around me so it's kind of a non-option atm.
Filco Majestouch Black Switch. I love the Filco boards and I want the feelings and sound of the mech switches and I don't want the silence of the brown, Is this the board that's least likely to annoy people but still feel and sound awesome to me?
Steelseries 7g: I love the look and sound of this board but I lacks the obvious awesomeness in looks and customization of the Filco's.. (eg. Red and Blue keys, or the limited edition ItalianRed and ElectricBlue faceplates. It's worth noting that when I buy one of these keyboards I plan to have it for a long time so I need to make the perfect decision, I feel like it would be worth it to go with the Filco because of the customization features making it less likely for me to get "bored" with it, but the Steelseries 7g looks so bulky and nice. Thanks for any advice. Edit: Oh and also when I decide which one to buy and it gets here I will post my first impressions and a review or something if anyone wants.
It sounds like you've already figured this out, but just want to point out again that if your first choice is blue you definitely should get brown. Both have tactile feel (a "bump" of sorts in the pressure graph) at the point where the key registers. Blues just make an artificial click noise at this point as well to simulate the old Model M spring keyboards.
Blacks have a very different feel since the pressure graph is linear. Often said to be better for gaming, I think it's more a personal opinion.
I would suggest going with a Filco brown switch (what I did, love it). As you've mentioned in your other posts, the noise of the brown is great too. It's not "silent" by ANY stretch of the imagination. It's just that there isn't a part of the keyboard that JUST to make noise (like the blue).

Hi mate, welcome to the mech club IMO, first of all you should base your consideration on what are you going to do with the keyboard? Are you going to use it mostly for typing? Or are you going to use it mainly for gaming? What type of gaming? I was probably going the same thing as you, I did some research, look others opinion and then watching/listening videos of some keyboards, and finally going to the market to feel it with my own hands. In the end I choose FILCO brown. (I tried blue and black too before I decided). My reason for brown: 1. I use my keyboard mostly for typing, and for light gaming. I play mostly soccer (FIFA series) with my rumblepad, and some RTS (mainly SC2). So for this reason it seems that blue/brown is the only way to go. I don't really like the feel of black switch when typing on it. Black might be good for FPS or any games that mostly will be bottoming the keyboard. 2. The sound. I found that I actually like the sound of blue the most. But the clicking sound might be annoying for my house mate. So I decided to get the brown in the end. Now it comes the fun part: Even the sound of the brown is not as silent as I expected to be, lol. To make the sound minimum I supposed you need to be a touch typist (without hammering/bottoming the keys too much). Although it doesn't have the clicking sound, but the sound when the keycap hits the bottom and when it bounce back is still a bit loud :D So, again I think you'll need to consider on what are you going to do with it first before jumping to conclusion. Cheers ^^ Thank you for your response, I will be using the keyboard for various game including SC2, HoN and on occasion WoW. Ofcourse I will use it for typing but not in a serious fashion (writing papers ect). I think my original thoughts on the Brown switches was quite wrong as it actually still produces quite a beautiful sound. I don't have any way of testing before I buy because of where I live so I have to base the sound/feel off youtube videos and a keyboard simulator which I'm not even sure is accurate. Again thank you for your response, so far I think I'm gonna go with the Filco Majestouch brown switch.
No problem
That is a nice simulator. I tried the Razer blacwidow, the Filco brown and one of those black switch. For the blackwidow and FILCO brown I guess it pretty much can give you an idea of how it actually sound. I bookmarked that link, might find it useful later Thanks
Cheers,

Okay would I rather get a razer marduer gaming keyboard or a logitech g15. I would think razer just because I know them but also know(read: think) logitech is good too but I'm pretty unsure. Which should I get?

Both are not great for their price. I would recommend a Razer Black Widow if you really wanted a 'gaming' keyboard.

Is there a reason you don't have Logitech listed?

I think most people here are looking for a mechanical keyboard, and Logitech does not currently make any mechanical keyboards. Not that I know of at least.

Ultra thin keyboards generally are not well suited for any gaming because they are more delicate and the switches can not withstand the amount of keystrokes that gaming uses. I spammed '12e' while playing SC2 on my Microsoft keyboards and they died within 3-4 months of heavy gaming :/

ultra thins are fine for fps and mmos but not really suited for rts.

Yeah Ducky is a good brand. I don't have any personal experience but from what I hear they are very similar to Filco.

I LOLed for a good 2 minutes at the stole $10 keyboard from work option... because that's exactly what I had did.
We have a shitload of keyboards at work anyways *shrugs*
I have no shame...

Many people recommended this keyboard, I would love to try it but the price is really turned me off (think it's around 80$ or so).
For the price I would better to get ducky or razer blackwidow whic is a mechanical one.

buckling spring keyboards are still the best , the key switches last longer than the cherry models. i would take the cherry ones over the rubber domes though.

Not the case with my Logitech Ultraflat keyboard. I use it for more than a year, probably even more than 2 yrs before I switched to FILCO. It's a great keyboard, although I don't dare to compare it with mech like FILCO, Deck etc. But for a 15$ keyboard it's a really great one.
Logitech Ultraflat probably was the keyboard that I used for the longest time. Due to all my previous works, I need to move a lot and normally I just give my old keyboard to somebody before I move out, and just buy a new one. I never spent for more than 15$ for keyboards before, until I found FILCO which made me willing to spend 10x more for a keyboard T_T.

True, I really miss the feel of good ol' IBM model M.
Too bad that I can't find it anymore.

Getting one from eBay coming in to my country is difficult (eventually importing goods is really difficult in my country *sigh), so eBay is really not an option for me.
Besides for this one I would prefer to try it first :D

I got my Rosewill RK-9000 cherry brown Keyboard in the mail today and wanna give my opinion of it. Its a very heavy keyboard because its lined with a red steel board for added durability (alot like the 7G) Overall the Blue switches feel great. They are noisy as expected, but have a great soft feel to them. The cord is a heavy duty think cord with a very strong gold lated USB. I do not see me needing a new keyboard for a long time. This thing is built like a tank.
Overall this keyboard is great. Its a cheaper option for a Cherry switch board, but not such a low quality as the Razer Blackwidow. Everything inside is built with Filco parts, so its very trusted as quality parts. For 100$ on Newegg I would highly recommend this board to anyone looking for a good mechanical board.
Just thought I would share for anyone shopping. Best self Christmas present ever!
