Just get a powered USB hub from dealextreme or whatever, they're cheap Microsoft Sidewinder x4 / x6 have fairly quiet buttons

in terms of performance With a keyboard that only takes up 1 usb spot you can only hope for one usb 2.0 port on that keyboard to be nearly fully functional. 2 of them would just end up not at all powered only way to solve that would be to use another usb port or add a power brick. In otherwords expect usb ports on your computer case not on your keyboard and if you do only expect one. Also you wont find a mechanical keyboard that's quiet and "tactile" part of it being tactile is it making a click.

Thanks The Das has 2 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB plugs, one for the keyboard (with or without PS/2 adapter), the other for the hub. Should the hub not be able to power everything that's plugged into it, it shuts off one port. tl;dr: get the Das, it's a fine keyboard. Get the Silent one if you need to but I recommend the clicky. The click itself isn't as loud as the internet wants to make you think and the sound is very nice.

And yeah essentially to get the 2 usb 2.0 ports they made a usb hub and shoved it into the keyboard which just seems like lazy designing. Will that affect my ability to type in both English and Japanese? I need both functions, and from what I understand, a Japanese keyboard will allow me to do both. Everyone please don't consider any keyboard that is NOT mechanical. I bought the Filco Majestouch - Cherry Brown switches and it's THE BEST 160 BUCKS I HAVE EVER SPENT ON GAMING! sc2 is alot more fun now, my old LYCOSA SUCKED! god what a piece of crap that lycosa was. Filco Majestouch - Cherry Browns (best keyboard out there for sure!) You can also go with Das Keyboard as long as you get Cherry browns (or blues if you like to type alot too) I wouldn't say that i'm way better with my Filcos, but I enjoy the game alot more. I'm not just some noob suggesting bs either, I'm in master league and trust me get mechanical keyboards preferably cheery mx browns.

It's pretty much true. Once you try a decent mechanical, you will not want to go back, ever.

Many keyboards designed for foreign markets have extra labels on them. There's an option in most IMEs (Input Method Editors, the part of your OS that determines how the stuff you type on the keyboard comes out) to type in Japanese where one key = one kana character, but that's difficult and most native speakers don't type like that. Most use the method where you type the character out in roman characters and it comes out in Japanese kana, then you choose the kanji that you need. Japanese-market keyboards usually have the kana labels on them, just in case you want to use them that way. French-market keyboards have the keys for the accents labeled, but you can use an American keyboard to type perfect French just fine, and vice-versa. I have a Razer Lycosa myself, and I've generally liked it the last few years, but I'm going to switch to a mechanical. I really would like a definitive answer on whether the Das Keyboard Silent is significantly quieter than most mechanicals. While I wouldn't expect it to be as quiet as a laptop or something, is it comparable to, say a cheap Dell membrane?

Im looking at these keyboards and none of them have a space between the caps lock and A key. I was wondering if that customizable or something.

![]() i only know logitech that does that none of the logitech keyboards are very probable in terms of size, if you want a portable keyboard go get a sidewinder x6 and lop off the num pad when you don't need it. Although personally i rather spend 20 less and get a x4 which has like 11 key rollover which i can probably find on sale for around 30-40 which is all you need in a keyboard for gaming media keys an adjustable backlight etc it also doesn't suffer from roll over limitations like the x6

If it sells well hopefully they will bring out some newer mechanical models.

I just bought a new computer and got a Razer Lycosa with it. I returned the Lycosa withing 24 hours. The keys were tough, difficult to press down, and impossible to spam. I went out and bought a Logitech G510 hoping for a better setup. The keys on the G510 are VERY light. Compared to the Lycosa it was like pressing on little mini cloud-pillows. Since the keys are so light to the touch, if you're used to the slightly heavier feel of mechanical keyboards like the Black Widow then take caution, but for someone like myself who likes / is used to a very light feel, then I would recommend this keyboard 100%. For Starcraft 2 the macro keys are useless and excessive, but if you are an MMO player as well these can come in handy. Same with the LCD display on the keyboard. These two features run up the price of this keyboard and are not necessary. Another thing to mention about this keyboard is the Windows key. On the Lycosa, that damn Windows key was so huge that every time I went for control I had a 50/50 chance of accidentally hitting the Windows key, which was bigger than the control key. On the G510 the Windows key is a lot smaller, the control key is bigger, and the spacing is that which you won't mis-click. The keys on the G510 are a bit smaller than the keys of the Lycosa, so if you're going from a larger keyed keyboard to the G510 it might take some getting used to. Don't get this keyboard if you have big fingers. Lastly, the backlighting is disappointingly dim. They have addressed this "problem" as saying that they didn't want any light to leak out of the sides of the keys, and since the font face on the keys isn't that large, the lighting isn't too bright. If you're in a dark room, you'll be able to see it fine, but if you have a light on the back light is nearly invisible. The one thing that the Lycosa beats this keyboard on is the backlighting. Pros: Very Light to the Touch, Windows Key Positioning, Smaller Keys Cons: Backlighting is Dim, Price (~$100) is a bit much Other: Macro Keys are a bit excessive for SC2, great for MMO's, LCD display is also a bit excessive Recommendations: Consider buying one of these if you like a very light touch. Typing is AMAZING on this keyboard and spamming is very smooth (especially for WoW and SC2). If you're used to a heavier touch go with the Black Widow or another beefy mechanical keyboard. I'll be on the look-out for a keyboard like this with better back-light, less useless features, and a super light touch! Hope this helps!

The G510 has very similar keys to the G15 which is actually heavier then cherry blues, but frankly i like the sharp ness up the keypress, i don't like cherries they feel like mush to me much prefer alps or bucking. Macro keys and the screen are more for enthusiasts and overclockers. The screen is very nice when playing mmo's or being in vent channels as you can see the name of the person talking without a game overlay. Or you can see what song is playing and change songs with the media keys all good features. The useful ness of a screen is kind of weird it's one of those things you wouldn't notice until you have it for awhile. The G510 also comes with a nice large sturdy wrist rest and the rest of the board is very sturdy. G510 G110 sidewinder x4 personally i like the x4 the best it's the bare essentials for a media gaming keyboard and it does it very well. I just hope the tech used for the x4 is migrated over to razer and logitech products so all gaming keyboards can have 11 key roll over without a hitch technically more like 17 but theoretically like 23?
