So all Laser mice have positive acceleration? I know I used to have a laser mouse that I absolutely hated and immediately god rid of because of it.

I'm using the Logitech M500 (Corded) at the moment.

Now it's pretty difficult to find official information about but from my personal experience and testing it does not have any perceivable acceleration. I believe the laser sensor is made by Agilent but I am not 100% sure which.

I have 2 (maybe 3 but I gave the 3rd away because it was the worst) other Laser mice that use the PTE (Phillips Twin Eye) sensor which have a shitload of acceleration that you can't seem to remove no matter what settings you use.

Unlike the Logitech something just feels "off" about the PTE based mice when you are using them.

Here is my crude method of testing which confirms the "off" feeling:
- Put your mousepad up against a book (book being on the right hand side) or other heavy object that isn't going to shift around.
- Move your mouse so the right side of the mouse it touches the edge of the book and the mouse pointer is as far right on the screen it can go.
- Flick the mouse left a small distance as quickly as you can.
- Slowly (as slow as possible) bring the mouse back to where you started up against the edge of the book.

Now, if the mouse pointer ends up in exactly the same spot when touching the book then it doesn't have any noticable "hardware" acceleration.

All my PTE based mice do not even make it back to the edge of the screen when doing my test. Some are worse than others. The Logitech one, which funnily enough was the one I spent the least amount of money on, ends up in approximately the same place every time.

I was using a PTE mouse for years and I was always missing shots in TF2 etc, I honestly was starting to think it was just because I was getting older and I wasn't as sharp with my aim as I used to be.

Imagine how shocked I was when (after all those years) I found out that PTE sensors have built in acceleration. After learning this I hunted down all the mice I owned to test them. For me the Logitech came out in front.

Heres how I ranked the mice I own:

1) Logitech M500 Corded (Agilent Laser)
2) Logitech MX400 (Agilent Laser, only 800 dpi though)
3) Genius Ergo 555 (PTE Laser, very minor acceleration but still noticable)
4) Microsoft Optical Explorer (Optical, no acceleration but too jumpy)
5) Coolermaster Storm Sentinel (PTE Laser, horrible acceleration)
6) Razer Lachesis (PTE Laser, worst acceleration and most uncomfortable - this one got charity binned)

After relearning how to aim with a mouse that doesn't have acceleration I was tearing it up in TF2 just like the old days

I bought a Xai recently, but couldn't get used to it, it felt pretty flimsy, I tried adjusting the CPI and everything but I couldn't get any accuracy in my actions. I didn't like Ikari that much either but it wasn't this difficult to use. Maybe it's just difficult to get used to idk...

@vek I just tried thise with my DeathAdder and it did not end up at the same spot o.o. I don't know though, because I use 3500 dpi so its extremely fast.

I think i'm going to pick up the Xai tomorrow and test it out a little, if I don't like it I will sell it on ebay as I won't even lose money (buy it for $58 can sell it for probably 60-70 if I don't like it.)

And I just bought the 6Gv2 steelseries for $98.

Honestly I like the DeathAdder for what it is, but the design on it doesnt really go well with my hand, I have to hold it at an awkward angle. We'll see what happens!

Isn't the DeathAdder optical though? I have a feeling I've read once that the DeathAdder has some special setting you need to turn on to get rid of the built in mouse acceleration...

Tada: http://razerblueprints.net/index.php/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,99/topic,5948.0/

Try updating the firmware.

Also if you are using Windows 7 make sure you are using the MarkC mouse fix, CPL fix does not work for 7.

http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.com/2010/03/markc-windows-7-mouse-acceleration-fix.html

And you aren't alone with disliking the design, my hand hated the feel of the Lachesis which is very similar to the DeathAdder.

Hey guys. First of all why the hell can't I post in blog o.o. Anyway, I have about a 1 month old DeathAdder that I pretty much love all around. I have it on 3500 DPI, love the sensitivity, and 1,000 Hz Polling rate. I got it because I can get it for $38 at my job w/ discount.

Anyway here's the delima. I have pretty big hands I guess, so people would generally say use the Death Adder. However, I kind of don't like the feel of it too much so I do a lot of miss clicks in game, but I love the sensitivity. The kinzu and Xai look relatively the same and from what I can tell the only differences is Lazer/Optical and the Kinzu has 3200 DPI and the Xai has 5000 DPI. I can get a Kinzu for $35 and I can get a Xai for around $58.

I kind of want a smaller mouse but I don't want to claw grip, i'd rather just lay my hand down on the mouse with a kind of arc so that my fingertips are touching and the middle of my hand is hovering over it. (See pictures)

Anyway, can you guys give me some overview on the performance of the mice and the feel of them?

BTW, sorry for the bad quality and upside-down-ness of the pictures. Stupid iPod Touch >.<

I'm coming from the death adder I got a xai and use the HD9 pad - its been great my
only gripe is that the teflon feet can collect dust so if the mouse stops feeling good its probabln the mouse feet being dirty and not a malfunction.

Also 60hz refreshrate on your monitor? Set the polling rate to 960 so it divides evenly.

The quality of the mouse is miles beyond the death adder - which for me was falling apart on the last legs when I switched.

I have the Kinzu mouse. Not sure why people would have the mouse set to 1600 + dpi.
I have my Kinzu at both 400/400 dpi settings and select no acceleration. I then save the settings, unplug en replug my mouse to my computer, and this is said to fix the noacceleration effect on some swedish SK forum.
I love the Kinzu mouse, if I lift the mouse, just a tiny bit, it stops moving the cursor on the screen, which is good. And since I prefer a claw grip with my rather small hands, this mouse is as good as a seventeen onahole.
If anyone know a similar small mouse like Kinzu, that is also very light on weight, I would gladly appreciate a recommendation, but for now, Kinzu is the best mouse for me.

If you like the shape just buy microsoft optical 1.1. Kinzu has a terrible sensor but I guess it doesn't matter that much in RTS games.

Okay I picked up the Xai today and I have to say... I LOVE IT. The design fits my finger tip design perfectly and is very easy to move around. Only thing I dislike so far is the scroll, I love my DA scroll. Software was kind of annoying to set up, we'll see how that goes. So far I see a better feel for me with this mouse

The xai software is really awful, sometimes you have to fiddle with it a lot or even fill all of the profiles with the same option for it to even recognise one. The xai itself is excellent though. I grew up using a microsoft optical so the xai feels perfect and has amazing hardware to boot

I saw a lot of people were recommending xai for claw grippers instead of the kinzu. But Xai is bigger than the kinzu (so I would recommend it to someone with bigger hands like you). Could it be just because of the sensor?...I mean...I think comfort is far more important that some sensor issue, no?

I dont get this sensor issues with Kinzu. I myself run the mouse at 400dpi, and according to SK forum, they just installed drivers, configured the mouse to their like, unistalled drivers to fix the acceleration issue with it.

Just search for disabling kinzu acceleration

I'm really not impressed with the kinzu's mouse skates, i had to put tape over them to get it to be smoother.. it has this sort of drag on it that doesnt seem to be very good for RTS but i can see why it would be good for FPS games. Other than that the mouse is pretty good, I love the shape and feel of it.

This is a bad way to go about it. You don't really need 1600 dpi unless you playing on massive resolution. So you have to look at various factors before looking at dpi issue
