Hey all, im currently looking for a USB backlit keyboard for my computer.
I will mostly use it for programming and maybe some gaming (sc ofc
It has to be backlit, i dont really care for all the extra buttons, maybe a few media buttons but thats not critical. Any of you have any recomendations? Nothing too expensive either
Thanks

A logitech G15 or G11/110 would do pretty well here. Seeing as how the G19 is 'top dog' now you should be able to find these models reasonably priced.

Ew. Logitech :| Deck has nice backlit mechanicals (with Cherry clears or BLACKS :D). They are a bit expensive though, with the cheapest being the Legend Fire, if you want full size, which comes in at $149. There's also the small form 82 Ice at $120, but that's small form :\
I have a G110 right now and I really wish I had held out and gotten a Steelseries 7g (Cherry Blacks ftw). All the extra buttons on the G110 are screwing me up.

How do the buttons off to the side of the keyboard screw you up lol, also cherry blacks i would def not recommend if you're programming that's alot of typing and blacks are hard to push down. I'd just go online and get the cheapest backlit you can find. That or buy yourself a 5 dollar light and use that in the middle of the night.

Microsoft Reclusa sounds like what you want. You can find them for ~$30 in the states. I bought one ~two years ago. All I wanted was a cheap back lit keyboard with a volume control and its done well for me so far. The keys are a little cheap, the black coating can wear off if you hit the key with your nail enough times but its still pretty durable, if I try to scratch it off I can't.

I personally just got a logitech g110 and i think it's great! You've gotta get used to having the G macro keys on the left (messes me up when I want to hit tab or esc). Obviously this was just a set of the select I was looking at personally, and was using the price range I had (basically i refused to spend over $80 for a keyboard just to get backlit features). Also, the prices can obviously range with deals and where you get it, but i just gave a quick link based on the prices i just saw.
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR HUNT!
List of keyboards i was looking at:
Logitech G110
-Has a range of color choices between red-blue (so red, blue, purple, pink) -No screen like the g15 or g19 which I liked since they seem useless to me -Slot to plug in usb, headphones, and mic into your keyboard (also a sound controller)
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-002232-Gaming-Keyboard-G110/dp/B002RRLQIO Price: ~$67
Logitech Illuminated
-Has a white backlight coming from it -Superthin, which is better if you like the feel of laptop keyboards vs the standard desktop keyboard -Cheapest backlit to quality ratio for a keyboard
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Ultrathin-Keyboard-Backlighting/dp/B001F51G16/ Price: ~$50
Logitech G15
-Uses only an orange color -Comes with an LCD screen (i've heard people use it for aim, or going through music) -Slot to plug in usb, headphones, and mic into your keyboard (also a sound controller)
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G15-Gaming-Keyboard-Black/dp/B000UHE8YM/ Price: ~$80 (sadly you just missed a deal a few weeks ago where it was being sold for $39 :X)
Saitek Eclipse 2
-Also has blue-red color range (but i heard the colors bleed a little more, but some like that) -Cheap, and simple (which is always a plus!)
http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-Eclipse-II-Keyboard-PK02AU/dp/B000H6AY6M/ Price: ~$50
Razer Lycosa
-Only uses blue color -I've heard mixed reviews about this keyboard, but some love it and others hate it -Has the media control buttons, and looks to be constructed well
http://www.buy.com/prod/razer-razer-lycosa-backlit-keyboard-usb-qwerty-black-razer-lycosa/q/loc/101/206358361.html Price: ~$65

I can vouch for the Saitek Eclipse (not the Eclipse 2). I'm actually on my second one (first one died after I threw it across the room >_>) and it's a little bit loud after three years of usage, but for $40 + S&H, I can't hardly complain. It still works flawlessly, and while it looks a tiny bit geeky, it's good otherwise. Easy to blow all the dust/crumbs/hair out of it or to take it apart and clean it that way too.

I was looking forward to that aswell. For 79,99$ sure. But i want the backlit and it's 129,99$ So no thanks....
There's reviews of it on youtube.

I'm generally of the opinion that backlit keyboards are for people who can't type, but that Razer keyboard looks really nice. I want it now.

Don't be a noob. hoho

Deck Legend, if you don't like money

People who buy these things usually have the same mentality as those who slap sports spoilers on their Honda Civics, it makes them feel better about their possession.
This is why companies like Razer and Logitech can charge such exorbitant prices for 'gamer' products.
I eventually caved and bought a Logitech G110, but it was going for AUD50, which is pretty much a steal.
I remember the G119 or whatever came out at AUD300, which is just a huge ripoff. Do people really use those LCD screens?

a backlit keyboard is kind of like a hybrid civic in the sense that i'm saving energy on lights being on in my room (since i get my light from the keyboard and play in the dark ^_^) haha
and i really don't think spending 30$ more on backlit functionality means your going hardcore on "gamer" status...
also, arn't most of us tech/game/computer enthusiasts? Usually this includes "pimping" out our rigs, which includes the very useful keyboard (actually i think my keyboard is worth more than my motherboard :X)

I want to try out a mechanical keyboard but I need it to be backlit (preferably with little-no bleed...) Unfortunately the G110 and the Razer Lycosa / Blackwidow have those obnoxious macro keys which I have no use for. Are those just for people who play WoW or do FPS/RTS gamers use macro keys now?

FPS games can use macro keys. They are very handy for binding equipment buying to, as well as admin things (I'm thinking of AMXX here, like map votes, ban menus, etc). For SC/SC2, all I use the macro keys for are simple things like saying gl hf and such.

The G110 and Lycosa aren't mechanical keyboards. That's not to say they're bad, but if you want mechanical then those two boards aren't going to do it for you. Razer has the BlackWidow (http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.211651300/categoryId.35156900) mechanical keyboard coming out, with a backlit option that looks fairly cool. Also, Deck (http://www.deckkeyboards.com/) has backlit mechanical keyboards.
As far as I know, those are the only two backlit mechanical options out there, unless you're comfortable modding a keyboard yourself. Both options are fairly pricey, but I think the BlackWidow is the better deal. Then again, I don't own a Deck (I use a FILCO - http://www.elitekeyboards.com), so I can't say for sure.
