From what I've read, Cherry brown switches are the best "all rounders" in terms of gaming and typing. i.e they're the ones you're most likely to get along with if you're new to mechanical keyboards. Cherry blues get mixed reviews for gaming, most due to how loud they are and can be distracting while gaming but also due to the way the tactile feel works, but I don't know enough to explain that. A lot of people are happy with the blues for gaming, but it's down to personal preference so browns are the safer option.
From what I've read browns require a very light touch, aren't too loud (still louder than most rubber dome keyboards though, since it is indeed a mechanical switch) and have a very subtle tactile feedback which most people find quite pleasant actually. It definitely sounds intriguing to me and I have never used anything other than cheap rubber dome keyboards, so I can't wait to try one heh.
As far as the G80-3000 goes, I was reading a lot about it today and it seems like a fine keyboard. The only complaint I've seen is to do with its size - it's freaking huge. Lots of wasted space compared to Filco's with their smaller form factor. But otherwise it's a good quality keyboard with a choice of blue or brown switches I believe, and is definitely a good cheap option for a first mechanical.

I'm considering getting a Majestouch Filco with cherry mx brown switches but i'm wary of the noise level they make seeing as I live in a dorm and my roommate goes to bed early sometimes.

A quality keyboard is a comfort/typing issue for me. I'm not good enough at any game for my keyboard to make a significant difference.

Anyone know which keyboard IdrA was using in MLG? I have been looking for a new keyboard and want to do the white/black key combo and if I can get a keyboard that IdrA uses I will be a happy camper.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe it was qsenn dt 35.
Anyhow, I use a g15, and have been for about 3 years now. I recently ordered the blackwidow and am very much so looking forward to it. If I don't like it, I'll order the filco one that cool uses. Yay.

probably it was the dt35. he just bought one in white and one in black and changed the keys
i use a german version of samsung dt35 i bought for like 15€ and im totally comfortable with it

Logitech Ultra-X, awesome keyboard, I got a box of 8. Might not be the best for sc because it has a laptop style key mechanism, but it is a joy to use.

I use a regular Dell keyboard that came with the computer that I bought many years ago. It is very good and it gets the job done. I sometimes want to get a more fancier one since they look nicer, but meh... this Dell is fine until it breaks somehow lol.

I never liked Razer. Their early mice were too light and the high DPS is just marketing. I tried their new keyboard at a friend's recently and they don't compare to logitech and some microsofts. But then again, not all logitech keyboards are made equal either.

I have the newer g15 and can't really complain , has been working perfectly for the past year and it's the best keyboard i've used since i started gaming.
My mouse is the same as yours, the mx518 , still working perfectly after 3 years of gaming aggression  Don't think i'll ever need a new one..
I don't have a mousepad though , never used one and hope i never have to use one xD

Without the wrist-thing, without tab-key and without the mouse (using a MX518  ) Works quite well. Everything up to the '6' seems actually closer together than a regular keyboard. Still the keys don't feel really fast and it's cordless too (=slower).
