Is there any particular reason you want to spend extra on SLI support playing the kinds of games you listed?
You can afford a Haswell i5, so that and some B85/H87 would be where you're going (unless you really want SLI), but the particulars are to be determined, I guess.
ive got a i5 650, biostar th55b motherbored, 8gb ddr2 ram, some random 650w power supply, msi nvidia gtx 560ti. Well im not really bothered about sli, ill properly never do it.

Are you sure its ddr2? First Gen i5 should definitely be ddr3.

Hello chaps, how this won't be too vague. Looking to upgrade that which I already have - current system specs are
Mobo: Asus P5Q3
HDD: Western Digital 500Gb
CPU: Intel Quadcore Q6600 2.4Ghz Aftermarket Zalmon cooling fan.
GPU: Gigabyte ultra durable 4870 1Gb GV-R487D5-1GD
RAM: DDR3 OCZ PC3 10666 Gold Series 3x1GB
PSU: Powerstation 2 650W
What is your budget?
I'd like to spend about £250 - £350.
What is your resolution?
1920 x 1080, HD ready - with decent speed internet to run 720 or 1080 + p streams
What are you using it for?
Gaming and watching streams - not streaming myself. I usually play WoW, Sc2 and League of Legends, but looking to future proof too. Looking to play these all on ultra settings with little frame drops.
What is your upgrade cycle?
1-2 years.
When do you plan on upgrading it?
Immediately - if I can get a few decent ideas together, I ll order the parts,
Do you plan on overclocking?
Probably not, but if I CrossFire a second GPU it would be fairly straightforward in certain respects. Case is well ventilated and clean.
Do you need an Operating System?
No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
Same as the answer previously - I actually had a 7900 in CrossFire but a hot Korean summer day and a 8hour sc2 session, along with me leaving it on a dusty floor that day cooked it. My own fault, really started to learn more about maintenance after that!
Where are you buying your parts from?
English websites, especially welcome to recommendations.
I don't need any peripherals like the keyboard, mouse, screen etc etc.
Ultimately, I'm really looking to just give my computer a bit of an upgrade and would appreciate some advice from more knowledgeable chaps as to where to put my money first for most noticeable improvement.
Thanks very much, feel free to PM me or post on this thread.

I admittedly don't know european prices too well, but I'm pretty sure 350 pounds won't be enough to build a full PC? Especially considering you probably want a PSU, I don't think I've ever seen that name...
If you absolutely wanted to put a build up, I think you'd have enough for maybe an i3-3220 and a 7750, but I don't know how much of an improvement that would be over your setup. Somebody more informed on european prices would be better than me though.

I'm not from Canada but what is with the shipping prices, its ridiculous. But being spoiled by newegg in the States with their east coast warehouse just across the river D=

Thanks for the suggestions.
Yea we do kinda get screwed on shipping. NCIX is our best option i think

in the 100$-200$ range, what kind of router should I look for?
I've started reading up, and checking the top router lists. Some names come back often, but most lists disagree with each others.
House is big (sort of), 2 floors and 1 basement. Floor 1 and 2 are the most important (floor has TV + consoles), floor 2 has all my computer. The room in which the router is, the signal is about 100% (not surprising), but as soon as you move out of the room, the signal starts dropping (to something like 85% just a few meters away). Where my TV + consoles are, I'm getting below 50% (hardly enough to multiplayer). Basement, about 15%.
I tested a Dlink dir-835 for a few days. The improvement was insane. I was getting close to 100% everywhere on the 2nd floor. It was also close to 100% in my living room (1st floor with tv + consoles). And it was about 80% in my basement. I returned it because of negative reviews on the internet.
If my experience with DIR 835 is worth anything, and assuming that the signal is about the same across every router brand, am I right to assume that I should be looking for another router with the N750 range?
I was thinking WD My net central N900 because it also has an integrated HD (I am also looking for a new HD, so I thought this could be interesting) Thoughts?

I'd probably try to get a haswell i5 with that budget. The 4870 seems decent, league and sc2 are very cpu bound (i went from fps in the 200's start of game, to fps in the 400-600 range in league with cpu switch) though league fps doesn't really matter, it's already high and minimums are really high (i have like 150-200fps minimum on max settings in that game..)
4870 should be enough, if passmark is any indication, to keep decent FPS on max settings in sc2, to the point where you are definately heavily limited by CPU even in 1v1, so a locked haswell i5 would be a massive, massive upgrade
WoW probably relies on GPU - but you can't really get haswell i5 and upgrade GPU significantly in that budget, i think that's the best upgrade. You can put £100-150+ towards a GPU at a later point in time

Oh sorry lol I didn't mean for u to search for them ;p
I found them on NCIX thanks for the help really appreciate it :D

Newegg has like five distribution centres nationwide whereas NCIX only has two and the rest of the retailers have one. Plus Canada Post is a crown corporation whereas USPS isn't.
A GTX 650 Ti would probably be your best option at $133: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11830BD8829 There was a GTX 650 Ti $120 a few days ago.

Oh. Games like LoL, which doesn't really need that good of graphics... What are some cheaper GPU and motherboard and case? Also, because I don't need to OC, I don't need Z series motherboard right?
|
Will it make a big difference that it doesn't support 2400MHz and will instead run it on 1600MHz? Btw, thanks for the help!
