Sweet, for the most part it hovers around 40-45C, and hits 50C when it's really stressed. I'm guessing the thermal paste is okay for now. I'll read up on overclocking, and then see how the heat on the cores go. :D

They're okay for storage drives but they're not really 7200 RPM drives like the Caviar Blue if you plan on running software off it. No reason to buy processor and motherboard separately from NCIX and Amazon when a Newegg bundle puts it at the same price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1325391Not sure how strict your pricing is but the U2312HM is $209 rather than what is listed on PCPartPicker...
I'm going to stick with the Caviar Green because I'm just using it for storage. I am getting the CPU and mobo both from newegg, it was just a mistake when generating the parts list. U2312HM is $198 on Newegg, so no issues there, unless someone can tell me why I should get a different monitor.
Do I need a 500W PSU if I get a Radeon HD 7850? Gigabyte says that you do, but according to pcpartpicker this rig will only use 308W. Why would it say that? If I go with that Gigabyte HD Radeon 7850, this is what the build would be:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI B85M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($71.97 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($109.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($79.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card ($184.99 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 MicroATX Mini Tower Case (Purchased For $43.31) Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($18.99 @ Amazon) Monitor: Dell U2312HM 23.0" Monitor ($198.00 @ Newegg) Total: $1037.21
There's a $10 mail-in rebate on that GPU that wasn't calculated in, so the total is really $1027.21.
What do you think? I'm ready to buy

There are very bad PSUs where the manufacturers are straight up lying about how much watts it can do. Some use creative math to add up the max power possible over the different cables, which can't actually be supplied constantly to a normal PC. That's why AMD and NVidia are very conservative when suggesting the minimum power supply.
On the flip side, a quality PSU will actually be able to supply more watts than what's printed on its box.
If your hardware will use 300 W, looking at something over 400 W is correct. Something smaller might be bad as efficiency suffers if a PSU is used at 100 %, heat will increase and the fan will be noisy.

What is your budget? 6-700$ preferably.
What is your resolution? Resolution for this monitor is 1280x1024 which isnt bad, resolution doesnt really matter to me anyways(unless its like 800x600 or something -_-)
What are you using it for? Gaming mostly, SC2/BW/LoL Streaming : don't wanna stream super high def but it would be nice to be able to
What is your upgrade cycle? Not often at all.
When do you plan on building it? Within the next week or two.
Do you plan on overclocking? No
Do you need an Operating System? Yes
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No
Where are you buying your parts from? Internet. I live in the USA and theres no decent places nearby to pick stuff up from

Alright, I'm sorry skyR but I talked to my GF and she wants a tower... with the condition of it being able to fit in a hand-luggage so it can be carried abroad. So my question is : is there no problem with that, other than size? And considering this, I opted for a mini tower. Are there any major downsides for the average user?
Here's my config so far :
Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 31,80 € CPU: Processeur Intel Core i3 3220 (3.3 GHz) 108,89 € MB: Carte mère Asus P8B75-M LX 54,89 € Memory: Mémoire DDR3 TopAchat, 4 Go, PC3-10666 24,99 € SSD: SSD Samsung Série 840, 250 Go, SATA III 151,90 € HDD: Disque dur TopAchat, 640 Go 44,80 € RAM: Corsair CX430, 430 W 44,80 € OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, Licence et support 1 PC, 64 bits, OEM 95,90 €
I took the graphics card out, I can just add one later. Will she be able to run the Sims smoothly with good graphics? I have a hard time realizing how good the integrated graphics are. I also took only one 4Gb chip of ram, planning to add another one down the road. I followed you advice and chose a 250gig SSD.
Will this computer allow for some editing and encoding? What do you think about the case? I hesitated between that and a Cooler Master Elite 344.
Many thanks.

I want to say thank you to everyone in here who helped me out. Just built PC last night and I really am enjoying the build. Its not a super beast powerhouse but I play every game I own on high settings at 1600x900 (my monitor res atm) and they run real smooth. Skyrim gets 40 on max settings but thats ok
Really looking forward to having a reliable machine for a few years ^^

You should look into very small cases. The mini tower is still super large for travel, I feel. For examples of what I mean, look up Coolermaster Elite 100 if you don't want a graphics card, and Coolermaster Elite 120 if you want space for a future graphics card. Both should be less than 50 €.
If you don't want a graphics card, you might want to look into AMD instead of Intel. There are those CPUs they call "APU" or "A-Series". Those CPUs have a Radeon GPU integrated. The GPU is a bit crippled because it has to use the normal RAM of the PC, but it should be still a lot better than Intel's integrated graphics.

Hoping for some reassurance that my power supply will be enough for my build. Somebody told me it might not be enough and since I'm planning to overclock the CPU and GPU I'm a bit nervous. I put it into http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine best as I could and came up with 570 but since I'm new to this I'm not too sure about it

It's fine. Look at this review: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_geforce_gtx_770_windforce_review,5.html
Don't worry about the added power consumption of overclocking your CPU. I remember experiments with an i7 Ivy Bridge showing the CPU using 50 W at 4 GHz, 100 W at 4.5 GHz, 150 W at 5 GHz. It's not that extreme for you as you probably won't be able to burn more than about 50 W extra by overclocking and still cool it with your air cooler.

@Rachnar: so you didn't have any trouble getting your PC into a plane? Mind you, my GF is not going to carry it around, she just wants to take it with her if ever we move a couple of months abroad. Also, the mini motherboard you posted goes with the Lian-Li case, right? If I keep a bigger case, I don't need something that small, do I?
@Ropid: The limits I have in mind are therefore the limits applied to hand luggage, 56 x 45 x 25cm (22in x 18in x 10in). I don't want to pick too small of a case, because I want to be able tu upgrade it easily if she ever wants to play fancier games. I do plan on buying a GPU later, it's just too expensive for now, so I also need space for that.
And I checked for the Sims specs and it should be just fine... minimum is GMA 3000 which is three generations earlier. Is there any other quick way to determine if a graphic card is better than another one other than checking the chronology of the models?

I think the biggest concern would be rough handling of luggage. You probably want to talk to the airline ahead of time about if they're okay with transporting it.

I have a 520W and used to have crossfire 6850's that were oc'd with an oc'd 2500k. You'll be fine. Just got a gtx 770 myself, such a great card.

i unassembled mine because it even if it would've gone through as cary on, it would've been annoying (and good thing i didn't too, my connecting flight got canceled and ended up changing air ports in new york and spending the night at la guarda.... even though i did cross alive who was going home from wcs thanks to that lol)
but normally it should be fine, you will want though to unscrew the heatsink and psu though as those can break off pretty easily, rest should be no problem

Actually, guys. Ive been using the PC a lot in the last two days and I've noticed a stuttering.
Steam is downloading a bunch of games at about 800kb/s while im listening to music and playing starcraft and sometimes the game will stutter and I'll hear the audio stutter as well. For about 1 second.
I am not sure if this is related to the audio codec while playing sounds, or if its related to my hard drive or something else. Temperatures are all around 35 Celsius on average and the highest under load for 3 days while HWMonitor has been running is 48 celsius on the GPU and 51 on the CPU while under load.
Is there anything I should be doing to isolate the cause of this stutter? On my laptop it meant my Hard drive was bad and I really hope this isn't the case here.
Or maybe I just have too many things writing to the HDD at once? Im not sure but I did get a budget drive since I can't really afford anything fancy right now for storage.

Hi I am planning to get a new rig with maybe a 1500-2000 dollar budget (so I can probably get all the "new stuff"). I haven't followed the computer hardware scene in a while though... is this a good time to get my rig or should I wait for what's-that-company's-name to release their new lineup?
