I won’t be able to get any parts from my old PC because it will be for my brother so I will need to buy everything from scratch. Thanks for any help in advance. What is your budget? 1000€ - 1100€ The lower the better but I can also go a bit higher if it would make a big difference, performance wise. What is your resolution? 1920x1080 At first I will only use one monitor but will buy the second monitor shortly. What are you using it for? It will be for mostly gaming, games like Starcraft 2, Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, etc. and also browsing and some times when I need to work from home I will be using software like Visual Studio, Photoshop for example. What is your upgrade cycle? It will be around 3-4 years. When do you plan on building it? I wanted to start ordering and getting all the parts this week or at maximum next week. Do you plan on overclocking? Yes I do. Do you need an Operating System? No don’t need it. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No, don’t have plans to do that for now. Where are you buying your parts from? I will be buying from stores in Portugal PCDiga (http://www.pcdiga.com/) ChipTec (http://www.chiptec.net/) Or Pixmania. (http://www.pixmania.com/pt/pt/home.html If there is a store in Europe that has cheaper parts and will delivery it in Portugal, ofc I will be up for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This was the build I was thinking, but ofc I’m not an expert so any advice you give me, I will gladly take it. The prices are from the three website I posted before, I looked where I could buy the cheapest part in all three. CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K (235€) MotherBoard: Motherboard Asus Z87-A (139.9€) Heatsink: NOCTUA NH-D14 (69.9€) GPU: Asus GTX660 2GB DirectCU II (204.11€) RAM: KINGSTON HyperX blu RED Series 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1600 (58.9€) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Titanium Grey (96.05€) PSU: XFX Core Edition PSU PRO 550W (59.9€) SSD: Samsung 128GB 840 Pro Series (127.9€) HD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB (58.5€) Optical Driver: Samsung DVD-RW 24x Sata Preto Bulk (17.9€) Total: 1093.05 € (1069.06 + 24.99 -> The 25€ are from Pixmania delivery rate, mostly because of the case) ------------------------------------------ I have a few Questions/Observations: -> The room I’m going to have the computer does not have AC and Portugal gets really hot in Summer time(30ºC – 40ºC almost every day is considered normal here) and the room is going to have two computers. I do normally have a fan in the room most of the time but still, I was wondering if getting that heatsink would be a safe choice in my case,( also because I will be overcloking) or should I go for something else, even if a bit more expensive. -> I will be doing a light-mid overcloking, so nothing super high, and was wondering if that motherboard would be ok for that, if I should get a better one or even get a cheaper one? -> I have seen some people say that you can go with the 450W PSU, but I choose the 550W mostly because I want to “play safe” and because I will be overcloking. Is it a waste of money and should I get the 450W one? -> Still about the PSU, I’m not sure if this PSU is compatible with the new Z87 Boards. If possible I would like a modular or semi-modular PSU, so I can have a better air flow in my case. Do you think it is worth it or not? And If yes, what PSU should I get in terms of the modular stuff? Once more thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate. ![]() I posted about two pages ago but I guess the post just gone unnoticed. I didn't want to repost but I wanted to start ordering the fastest I can. Sorry for bothering this much.

I looked up a few reviews it seems the DRP2 edges out the water cooler in performance. Which would you recommend? According to reviews the Dark Rock Pro 2 is a nice bit quieter.

Steam is downloading a bunch of games at about 800kb/s while im listening to music and playing starcraft and sometimes the game will stutter and I'll hear the audio stutter as well. For about 1 second. I am not sure if this is related to the audio codec while playing sounds, or if its related to my hard drive or something else. Temperatures are all around 35 Celsius on average and the highest under load for 3 days while HWMonitor has been running is 48 celsius on the GPU and 51 on the CPU while under load. Is there anything I should be doing to isolate the cause of this stutter? On my laptop it meant my Hard drive was bad and I really hope this isn't the case here. Or maybe I just have too many things writing to the HDD at once? Im not sure but I did get a budget drive since I can't really afford anything fancy right now for storage. To isolate the cause, do you still experience this while not downloading?

So far I've been able to gather that I have DPC latency and the culprit drivers are ataport.sys and iusb3xhc.sys so far both with thousands of milliseconds of duration time instead of tenths of thousandths. Apparently Ataport is the worst of them, according to latency mon I have had pretty long hard pagefault resolutions, and also ndis.sys is causing latency too. And there are spikes alongside \when these processes seem to be activating/hanging EDIT: Discovery! Its my wireless network card. It causes NDIS.sys to hang and then i get stutter whether I am connected to the internet or not. The problem is, I can't run an ethernet cable to my PC so what do i do now -_-

I haven't followed the computer hardware scene in a while though... is this a good time to get my rig or should I wait for what's-that-company's-name to release their new lineup? It's already out. You're good to go. Your budget is very high. You can get pretty much top end components all around.

I know Cyro has had some good results, I'm currently testing 4.5Ghz on mine. Thanks! I'll do some more homework on this thing.

It doesn't work on my 5Ghz band but thats ok at least I can listen to music properly and I dont need to rely on a super weak signal from a USB WiFi Dongle. Bonus points for adding extra range to the backyard now.

I don't think Dark Rock Pro 2 is good at all in price-performance, not sure why it'd be your choice. Price-performance specifically, if you just want performance it does the job really well of course.

I suspect this isn't going to be easily dealt with so I need to look seriously at wireless solutions. I don't want to pay too much in case it's an easier fix than I'm worried about, but I don't want to sacrifice too much performance. My motherboard does not have built-in wireless and neither do any of the alternatives I was considering, so I've ruled that out. What are the main differences in performance between USB, PCI-Ex, PCI, and so on? I could pick up http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833168077 for $15 at Micro Center if it's adequate. Was on wireless for about 10 years. There's almost no difference. It's worse than wired but the difference between different wireless devices and where they plug in at is not noticeable. It's mostly just settings and what types of settings they accept. Like b/n/etc.
