Closed loop = you can't add to / remove from it (it's closed as in you can't open it). Custom loop = you can customize it however you want.

I dunno; it's always made sense to me.

Yeah, but custom, piecemeal systems are closed while running. Usually the description of a system is based on the mode and theory of operation, not the mechanics of assembly. I mean, that's what's of more interest... or wait. People often don't care as much about things on a conceptual level, and the details of assembly and maintenance are certainly important to people using them.

By closed loop, I think of feedback loops first, anyhow. Maybe I'd just prefer calling them self contained.

As I'm preparing for a recommend build I have been wondering if I would be able to transfer over my HDD Seagate- Barracuda 7200.10 Sata 3.0 Gb/s 750 GB and my plds dvd+-RW dh-16a6s.

I've been using these in my current system for five years and would love to transfer these over as it would save me some money to put into other parts. But the other part of me questions how much longer they can or will last. I haven't had a problem with them yet.

Yeah, you can use both. An older hard drive like that may be a little slower and noisier than something these days, not to mention maybe a little more likely to fail (than a new product past the initial period), but it's okay as long as you know what you're dealing with. As always, if you have important data, or just in general, keep backups. DVD burners are like $15 anyway, but that's $15 saved. Good.

Yea man it's saturday and it releases monday (how early can we order these things? I know Aria displayed them for a short period of time; can we 00:01 these things, or do we have to wait until later in the day, or even a day or two after? I have no idea)

I was never going to delid, but i find myself asking where to find a vice, not if it's a good idea >.>

I know I'm very late to the party but why the hell would you use 38mm Fans on a 25mm radiator when you can use a 38mm radiator (RX series $5 premium over RS series) and 25mm fans and have more cooling power in the same amount of space. That review was written by an asshat.

Also GL getting your haswells. When ivy came out they were out of stock for like a month and a half...

Well hopefully they are shit enough that nobody wants them. We have no idea until NDA lifts, i thought we'd have some idea of the worth of these CPU's before they literally released and were shipped

Several sources showing unbelievably awful results, several showing unbelievably great ones and several saying all of the sources are wrong and wait for NDA to lift, which is grimfully hilarious

If you get next gen, basically you get ~10% more performance plus or minus a bit.

If they put big sales on the likes of 3570k/3770k you might consider picking it up since those are both still really good, but I don't think anything beyond minor price decreases are expected.

Man, I wish the NDA would lift on Saturday or at least Sunday. I'll be right by a microcenter until then. If Haswell sucked, I could just get a nice and cheap 3570k. Ah well. Maybe I can still get a best buy or fry's to price match. Anybody have your own personal guesses as to how well it will do? Does intel normally land above/below the rumors or is there no general pattern?

Best Buy won't price match (do they even carry 3570k's?). Fry's might, but I seem to recall hearing that they won't for that.

The limited info that has come out has put the thing at like 7-13% better than current and I seem to recall hearing that the overclocking wasn't much better than IB but I don't remember.
