Are you sure it's the Q9550 that's holding you back in gaming? You mentioned you don't need a video card...what do you have now? Q9550 is still pretty decent and should only experience painful slowdowns in very few games like SC2.
For Adobe CS6 the CPU upgrade will yield massive benefits, though.
I would personally also consider overclocking (assuming you have a decent motherboard), but that's not guaranteed and might yield only ~20-30% improved performance at best.
Yea, as for Sc2, it's running ok, but also not quite the priority right now. When it comes to Adobe CS6, it's quite painful, and it takes forever just to render vector files. I guess the major would lean more towards CS6

It's not a flagship. Having two 680's and being relegated to one 680 won't feel terrible, but going from two 660's to one 660 means your going to feel the heat in the FPS sooner rather than later, and then youll wonder why you bought a fancy PSU, motherbard, and another GPU.

I should also mention that being inexperienced with software suites like CS6, I'm not sure how important I/O storage speed is - basically, if everything is not in memory or if the software somehow constantly reads/writes from disk, that could potentially be a major bottleneck and something like extra RAM would help more (maybe for a RAM disk? idk) - and maybe an SSD too for loading stuff fast, though I'm not sure about using an SSD as a scratch disk if you're doing many GB of writes per day (could deteriorate faster, but would probably still last a good 3-5yrs if you get a drive with the higher quality NAND) Some more experienced people should chime in here and correct me (feel free to insult me also).

You can always get a nicer case and keep it for a few builds, getting a better gpu if you are looking to play games in the future at max settings or upgrade the cpu to an i7-3770k for better streaming and cs6
Keep in mind that I dont know too much about cs6 (would probably be better if you had a professional videocard vs the gaming one I suggested for cs6) and the other editing programs.

I'm thinking about buying a new computer because I want to start streaming. Here's the thing, graphics mean nothing to me. Currently I'm using a 2.7 ghz dual core with an integrated graphics card and get 60 fps just fine on low settings and 1024x768 (this is my preferred setup and would play on this even if I had a high end comp)
Is streaming affected by a GPU at all? If I just bought a computer with a quad core i5 or i7 and integrated graphics/low end card would I be happy with my results?
|
No streaming isn't affected by the GPU at all.

I guess it would work but its nowhere near perfect. I don't see any reason why anyone purchasing a desktop would have an IGP as their GPU though. Would you be willing to build a computer instead? You'd get better parts and at a cheaper price as well.

The ezpay system is what makes me want to get this one. $150 a month with no credit card or strings attatched. Also, this is the only game I ever play or will ever play (at least on pc) and I prefer the low settings so no need for a gpu yea?

Given that it's 1024x768, I'd consider just getting an i5.
You can find similar computers with an Ivy Bridge i5 for around $500. I'm not sure about financing.

If I'm reading this correctly, you're paying more to downgrade with a nice case and an overpriced closed loop liquid cooler.
Actual specs are slightly worse, the H100 is kind of a silly place for cooling, high end air is a better deal, if you actually need more might as well bump to a full custom loop.
You're mostly paying more to upgrade in places that don't make major performance differences for most users.
Case I can't argue with, PSU, meh, unless you have a need for modular, not worth it.

You definitely dont want that ram if my understanding is correct. You want dual channel, you dont want heat-spreaders and you dont want to pay $50 for 8 gb Also, the reason I had recommended the 16 gb one was cause of the programs you use.
Someone else covered the rest.

The Neo Eco you already had suggested is fine unless you plan to do multiple GPUs or some truly absurd stuff. The 450.
The Noctua cooler is probably still overkill unless you want to OC your CPU to the absolute max of where it can go on air cooling, but at least it's a better choice than an H100.

What screen resolution? What kind of fps? HD 6850 should be enough for SC2 on high (ultra) and GW2 on medium/high already. With a slower CPU, you'll have issues with both. What are you using?

Well right now I'm running a piece of crap 5570, but I was just curious if I should spend the extra 30 bucks or so on the 7850. I have an i7-860 or something, not the best but it should be plenty for those games I think.
