Hi all, my friend is looking to build a computer and his only real requirement is that he is able to run SC2 on Ultra smoothly with no problems all through late game 1v1.
What is your budget?
$500-700
What is your resolution?
1920 x 1080 would be optimal, but I don't think he minds 1600 x 900 in order to fit the budget
What are you using it for?
Primarily for SC2 1v1 on Ultra graphics. Standard school software - Word, Excel, etc
What is your upgrade cycle?
2-3 years
When do you plan on building it?
Anytime from now until the end of December. Are there any particular big sales between now and then?
Do you plan on overclocking?
No
Do you need an Operating System?
No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No
Where are you buying your parts from?
Newegg
Thanks in advance!

Hi guys! So my sister asked me to builder her a reasonable computer for a budget. This thing is gonna be used primarily for facebook. In other words it doesn't need a GPU. There may be some word processing or Excel spreadsheet making. I had a few ideas in mind but I figured you guys were such a great help when I built mine a year and a half ago I mgiht as well come back for your opinion on this.
What she needs: Processor Mobo Memory HDD PSU DVD drive Monitor
Itd be nice if we could get a case in on this budget too.
What is your budget?
$400 - $500
What is your resolution?
1920 x 1080 would be optimal, but shes nary too picky.
What are you using it for?
Word processing, browsing the internet... nothing demanding.
What is your upgrade cycle?
Long time... long time...
When do you plan on building it?
ASAP
Do you plan on overclocking?
Absolutely not
Do you need an Operating System?
No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No
Where are you buying your parts from?
Memoryexpress if I can, but I'd do NCIX if it works out better.

I assume by your post that you need a monitor - do you need a mouse/keyboard/speakers as well?

If you need a mouse, I recommend a Mionix Naos 3200 (Amazon, right-handed only). If you need a keyboard, I recommend whatever cheapie you can get for $8 or so (us.ncix.com).
There's no reason to wait on buying. There's a fair number of moderate specials in the pricing above, which are as likely to disappear as to get better. No, Black Friday and whatnot generally doesn't lead to particularly big deals on computer parts, certainly not enough to pay for the extra months of not having the system.

Hi,
Here's my outline. I've chosen most parts and wanted some critique
What is your budget?
$800
What is your resolution?
1920x1080
What are you using it for?
Mostly gaming.
What is your upgrade cycle?
1-2years
When do you plan on building it?
next 2 or 3 weeks
Do you plan on overclocking?

G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL (2x2G) DDR3 Antec VP550P 550W Power Supply
TP-Link TL-WN751ND Wireless PCI Adapter Western Digital WD Blue 500GB WD5000AAKX BitFenix Merc Alpha Mid Tower Case
I have monitor/keyboard/mouse/optical drive
Thanks in advance for any advice

You could save some with a B75 motherboard if you wanted. You're probably not interested in any of the H77 features over B75 or whatever the H77 Pro4 has. Depending on the games, the similarly-priced GTX 660 is better or worse. No big deal.
The rest is okay.
Suddenly PCCaseGear power supply selection is not that good. Out of those, on a budget, I'd pick the VP550P too (though check the cable lengths, as they may be a bit short?).

Hey guys, was helpin you could help build my computer.... What is your budget? $600-$700
What is your resolution? 1920×1080 (I also want to run dual monitor with that resolution.)
What are you using it for? Really just want to play World of Warcraft at high resolution. I also tend to keep a lot of things up at one time if that means anything.
What is your upgrade cycle? 2-3 years.
When do you plan on building it? Before the end of this month.
Do you plan on overclocking? Never messed with overclocking before but if I can squeeze more out of a system for a couple extra $$, then I'd be willing to give it a shot.
Do you need an Operating System? Yes, Windows 7 would be great.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No.
Where are you buying your parts from? Newegg.com, ncix.com, or other respectable web vendors.
Thanks

Myrmidon,
Thanks for the reply. I went with H77 because the B75 got some hits in reviews around quality. Checked the power supply and all the leads are long enough.

For formless, you may want to consider overclocking & a more expensive video card (even up to, say, a 7950). Total War games are pretty demanding on both CPU & GPU. You don't need those more expensive parts for medium settings at your resolution, but higher settings is within your budget...
With that caveat, SkyR's advice is, of course, solid as always.

|
|
It'd be helpful if you answered all the questions in the OP if you're not that knowledgeable...
The Intel HD Graphics 4000 isn't that good... would only be suitable if you are playing at low settings at a low resolution or not so graphic intensive games.
Rosewill Hive isn't that great and 650w is beyond overkill for a configuration without a GPU. A quality 400w unit is also beyond overkill for a system without a card.
You're also missing an aftermarket heatsink for overclocking.
Getting a Caviar Blue instead of a Black and spending the $30 you saved on a 128gb SSD would be smarter.

Hi guys, I'm growing tired of gaming on my imac for obvious reasons. This is why I want to build a windows pc.
What is your budget?
700-800€
What is your resolution?
1920 x 1080. I want to use my 27" imac as a monitor, and i fear that lower resolutions result in eye cancer. The native resolution is 2560x1440, but i don't think any GPU in this range of budget can handle it. This is also the reason why the graphics card needs to have displayport or mini-displayport output!
What are you using it for?
only gaming. I'm playing sc2 and d3 right now, but i'd like to have a look at games like crysis 2 or similarly beautiful fps games in the future.
What is your upgrade cycle?
about 2 years
When do you plan on building it?
as soon as possible
Do you plan on overclocking?
no, I want to keep this system as silent as reasonably possible
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
no
Where are you buying your parts from?
www.conrad.de www.alternate.de www.hoh.de
or other trustworthy online vendors
additional information
I already have a Windows 7 license and a 1.5 TB SATA harddisk. I want to install the OS on an SSD though.
Thanks for your help!
