When using this resource, please read FragKrag's opening post. The Tech Support forum regulars have helped create countless of desktop systems without any compensation. The least you can do is provide all of the information required for them to help you properly.
You're setting yourself up to spend way more money than necessary because I think you're grossly overestimating what your needs are.
Just get an Ivy Bridge CPU, a Z77 mobo that's SLI/CF capable, and a GTX 680 / HD 7970 (or lower of course). This is already overkill for a typical 1080p 60hz monitor and you can still dump another 680 or 7970 in there whenever you feel like it. Hopefully after you get a 120Hz monitor or 2560x1440 or something that would actually put all that hardware power to good use.
PCI-e 3.0 is actually not useless for these flagship video cards. Anandtech showed some bottleneck using 7970's in PCI-e 2.0 x8 mode slots so anyone who has the money to go for multiple-flagship-cards should be getting PCI-e 3.0, whether Ivy for two x8 slots or LGA 2011 for you-have-too-much-money.
Hi, Im not sure if this should be here but I need some help ^-^. I trying to prep for diablo III or any new game for that matter but my graphics card that i have now does is not supported. I have a Intel(R) G41 Express Chip (integrated). Below i have my expansions slot that are open. The monitor i have support VGA and DVI-D, But here the catch I have a small form computer so my problem is that im scared to find a graphics card but not being able to fit it into my small form.
Here is a link to what my PC looks like from newegg.com ACER AX1920-UR20P
If i am not allowed to posts links im sorry.
I do not need a High-Spec Ultra graphics card just enough to play new games fairly well at an enjoyable rate preferably Diablo III. Any type of help will be great.
Oh and I play other PC games fairly well such as WoW-Cata on Low and Starcraft II on Low, and League of Legends on min with 60FPS or on High with 30FPS. Like I said flashy graphics is not important to me, I just want to be able to play.
I've been doing research myself but im just not that techy to be sure of myself that this is the right card for me and if it will fit my dimensions, since they all seem large.
Also here are the dimensions of my small form: Physical Spec
At above, can you open the case and measure the space for the graphics card both vertically and horizontally? otherwise it's really difficult to recommend anything.
Anyway, there are a couple of other decent monitors sub-$200ish that I know of: Asus VS229H-P (yes it's not 23 inch, it's 22 but it's good for its price) AOC i2353Ph
Hey can someone find me a LGA 1155 motherboard, that can overclock and is decent overall? I cant order from newegg, and my budget is $100-$140. Thanks. I dont think I need SLI/Crossfire
That is overpriced. I wonder if it'll come down to the MSRP soon. Anyway, my main point was to say to Sinensis that if one of the games he plays is Shogun 2:Total War, he should go for the ivy bridge anyway. For some bizarre reason there's massive improvement in performance for that game. Otherwise at that price difference go with the i5-2500k SkyR recommended.
Hello everyone, I'd like to request a build for a new computer.
What is your budget?
Budget is 1000€, flexible up to a maximum of ~1150€.
What is your resolution?
1920x1080.
What are you using it for?
Mostly gaming with the odd multimedia, office and light scientific calculations (Matlab, R, etc.). At the moment I'm mainly playing SC2, but there is no strict focus on that and I hope I can pick up more graphic intensive titles with a new computer.
What is your upgrade cycle?
I'm normally on a long upgrade cycle of about 5 years. My current machine is 5 1/2 years old. Usually I upgrade the GPU after ~3 years.
When do you plan on building it?
I plan on building it immediatly.
Do you plan on overclocking?
I was thinking about a mild overclock in the 4.1-4.3 Ghz range.
Do you need an Operating System?
I don't need an OS.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
SLI doesn't seem sensible for my budget and not worth the drivers/combability headaches.
Where are you buying your parts from?
I'm buying from Germany, so I guess the major online retailers hardwareversand.de, alternate.de or mindfactory.de. I'm not sure which of those is the cheapest overall.
Additional Information
I'd like to include a 120/128gb SSD in the configuration coupled with a 500gb 7200 rpm secondary HDD. If it's possible I'd also prefer components that have a bit more emphasis on silence if they can be had for a minor extra amount of money, like a Fractal R3 as case. Also while I'm not sure whether Ivy Bridge is the price/performance champion at the moment, I'd like to go that route for a processor.

final build i plan to order in around 2 hours (free shipping then). looks good? decided on the R3 cause it would keep me under 750€ (saving 50+€ compared to what i planned with is just nice). took me longer then expected to pick the final parts but stupid work and rl stuff got in the way <.<
/edit oh and there is a some extra thingy for around 5€ that apparently is needed for mounting the macho on a 1155 asrock board. do i need this?
