And honestly, I think it should be there regardless.. There is an endless amount of third party software and bots that lets you host with every kind of latency you wish in warcraft 3, and since they are so popular it would be strange if blizzard did not include a feature to set it for the host in starcraft 2. Also, if you played starcraft at "ow latency" what was the latency then?

Say they take away LAN...and then have router issues with multiple people using the same router or IP address. Uh oh? Also, I can't speak for anyone else, but my friends and I are broke as all hell, and the luxury of buying one copy of the game and LAN'ing it in our apartment is much more enticing than forking over $300 for 5 CD keys just so I can play multiplayer. No?

I think that's pretty naive to assume that, especially considering Eastern European countries (including Poland) and Asia. The point is those people are NOT POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS in the first place. Removing LAN will make them unable to enjoy the multiplayer value of the game - big deal! they couldn't care less about that. They'll simply play some other RTS. It's not like they care it's StarCraft 2 - otherwise they would've bought a legal copy. ;;

No? The game subdivides multiple players sharing an IP address into ports. It requires some effort to get it working right with SC, but War3 does this properly without any hassle. We can expect the same of SC2.

The players that used LAN probably won't care much about in 2009. Read what I said carefully. I didn't say Starcraft players, I said RTS players. This includes games made up to this day. If online play were an adequate substitute for LAN, then why is it that almost all major competitive events for any RTS (and for a large number of games in general) are done offline? You treat people who use LAN play as a strange minority, but the fact of the matter is, it still has legitimate advantages over online play that many gamers (especially competitive gamers) take advantage of today, whether it be through an actual LAN or using something like Hamachi.

Why are you so sure that Bnet 2 won't work like Hamachi and probably even better? And for that matter if everyone are at LAN you will probably get LAN ping on Bnet 2 as custom games will most likely be p2p. Yes it will suck for those that still don't have broadband but if Blizzard choose to remove the LAN function from the game they have apparently made that the decision that it is a small part of their customers. Trust me, if they make that decision their marketing department have looked into it extremely well.

LAN just isn't a necessary feature any more. Blizzard seems to be of the opinion that a single broadband connection will support multiple gaming connections on BNet2 just fine. Guess who's opinion is just a TINY bit more valuable than the rabble on TL.Net's?

I have only one question left: + Show Spoiler + WHERE THE FUCK IS THE SOURCE OF THIS Thank you. StarCraftWire.net: Will it be possible to play Starcraft II at LAN Parties? Karune: While the idea is still there, the main focus right now is Battle.net and Multiplayer to determine whether or not LAN will be available. Someone mentioned a Sigaty quote as well, not sure what video it's from tho. Possibly the Blizzcon Press Q&As? Blizzard seems to be of the opinion that a single broadband connection will support multiple gaming connections on BNet2 just fine. Guess who's opinion is just a TINY bit more valuable than the rabble on TL.Net's? First of all, drop the attitude - if you want to continue posting here you can do so without being a condescending prick in every single post you make -- Second - what about people without broadband? What about people behind firewalls (at least one person in this thread has already mentioned he literally can't get onto Bnet due to the firewall his college uses)? And while these people are increasingly rare, what about people without internet? In addition, Battle.net WILL go down from timet to time. There will be server maintenances, updates all sorts of stuff. Yes it's rare (well, in the beginning it might not be, but eventually it will), but can you imagine how fucking painful it would be to have that happen in the middle of a live, televised tournament? 3rd, I don't think Blizzard gain anything from forcing everyone to have a copy of the game for LAN parties - it's like forcing everyone who wants to play, let's say, Super Smash to bring their own copy of the game. Anyone who likes the game is going to buy it so they can play online, and if they aren't they are gonna play on a private server, hence there's really no reason to not allow LAN play. If Blizzard has decided that LAN is not "worth it" then that doesn't automatically make them right. Blizzard are great, but they also decided that - apparently - being able to watch replays online isn't "that important", since this feature isn't in WC3. I'm pretty sure they've seen sense since (perhaps it was even a tech issue, I don't know since they've never addressed it as far as I'm aware), thank god. In the end I ask only this: why would you, as a customer/player, want to limit your options? Why wouldn't you want LAN to be there?

Lost the inovation, feeling, story of starcraft...wtf...its like a starcraft-red alert-dawn of war-gundam-lego mix... And its made to be simpler ! Prettier and for all people ( including 6 yo kids, stupid people, non rts people bla bla ) ... THEY SIMPLY TOOK OUT THE "PRO" from it ! Just like CS-Source...still SC : BW AND CS : 1.6 FTW !!! F*** your shiny kiddy new graphics ! Last thing. Back in the day, companies ( blizzard the most ! ) made games ! Good games ! Now they dont make good games ! They sell games ! Starcraft was a great game ! All aspects...story, gameplay, inovation, multiplayer, replayability, sound, video (back then), balance ... ALL ! I really think the game would have been out in 2008 if not all the huge bitchin' of the people...they renamed tempest carrier...and now the DT vote ?! terran look like square lego, the zerg...no comment and prostoss a bit better but the units...no reaver no dragoon no high templar no arbiter??? and wtf colossus stalker ( blink in sc !!? ) ... pylon teleportation...OMG ! I have a new computer. I hoped red alert 3 and call of duty 5 could be good or some 2008-2009 games...but NO! And the only game that i care about ( 2009-2010 non-released just confirmed ) is SC2! I think im gona sell my crapy new computer...and just keep a basic one.Cuz i play SC,WAR3 and CS1.6...the best games ever and i played alot ! And i honestly think i will never play seriosly newer games...only a miracle can make do it! Also 5-6 of my friends play the same games as me and are die hard fans of blizzard and sc, and are very dissapointed !! The good all days are gone...Sad but true ! Its an era of fools and money... Peace !
