Weekly Cup Competitions Week of October 26 - November 1*Partial brackets may be shown.
5.0.17 finally started to feel a bit like 5.0.15, as herO and MaxPax teamed up to take down two of the three weekly cups. However, other online tournament results suggested that an immediate reestablishment of Protoss dominance is far from likely, including team Zerg's resounding victory in GSL CK #6.
October 26: WardiTV Mondays #110

Played on 5.0.17
MaxPax got the first cup win of the week in WardiTV Mondays, besting an impressive list of opponents including Percival, Clem, SHIN, and herO VOD). The tournament roster was quite stacked overall, with the 5.0.17 patch continuing to bring back players who had gone semi-inactive during the summer.
MaxPax had to be at the top of his game to clinch the cup, eking out a tough 3-2 win against herO in the finals. Things may not have been so difficult for MaxPax if he hadn't stubbornly tried to get fast expansion openers to work, but he only ended up being punished by herO's aggressive tactics. While MaxPax has shown some flexibility in adapting to various PvP metas, he's also found it hard to completely abandon the fast expansion builds that made him nigh invincible in PvP several patches ago.

October 27: PiGosaur Cup #105

Played on 5.0.17
Second place disappointment was only temporary for herO, as he went for gold in the following day's PiGosaur Cup (VOD). After working his way through an all PvP bracket in the lower rounds, herO sealed his victory with a 3-0 finals sweep against ByuN where the in-game content was as one-sided as the score.
The real highlight of the tournament was the five-game semifinals series of ByuN vs Solar, which is tied with MaxPax vs Clem in terms of being the match-up that most regularly delivers entertaining macro games in the weekly cups.

October 28: 2026 Kung Fu Cup Weekly #29
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/KFC2026_29.png)
Played on 5.0.17
ZvZ cup finals were barely seen during the 5.0.15 era, but things are shaping out differently in the mostly similar 5.0.17 version. Rogue and Solar met at the summit of Kung Fu Cup #29, with Solar taking a hard fought 3-2 victory in the end (VOD).
The finals was extremely honorable by the standards of Korean ZvZ, with ultra-cheesy play only factoring into one of the games. In fact, Solar took the series on the strength of his Infestor-Hydra play in macro situations, as he successfully nullified Rogue's Mutalisk compositions.

October 30: GSL CK #6
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/gslck6.png)
Zerg showed its strength once more in the sixth GSL CK showmatch, with team Zerg winning the 'race war' themed competition (using an innovative three way all-kill format). Rogue did the heavy lifting for the swarm, Scoring four of his team's series victories before Solar secured the winning point (VOD). One significant caveat is that team Zerg's roster (SHIN, Solar, Rogue) had been significantly more active than their opponents in the preceding months, giving them a competitive edge.

October 31: Sparking Tuna Cup #153
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/sparklingtuna153.png)
Played on SHIN Balance Patch
ByuN took the Sparkling Tuna Cup for the second week in a row, defeating Percival 3-1 in the finals. The STC has generally been easy pickings for ByuN in weeks where herO hasn't competed, but this time around, Percival put up tough resistance in the finals. TvT has been the match-up where Percival holds up the best against top players when playing standard, and he showed that again by taking his only map win in a lengthy macro game (VOD).
Of course, this being the SHIN Balance Mod, we have to give a shoutout to its broken/reworked Cyclone, which defined the early game in every single map of the finals.
