No one would've thought of a remaster if it wasn't for that e-mail that again, was almost certainly a typo. Another very credible source has reached out to me and said that based off of their information that a remaster "does not sound far fetched"

I don't see any reason to remaster the graphics it's still far ahead of it's time. Virtually all hacking that goes on within the client derives from replay functionality. IP-Range server blocking can only be prevented by putting bans/cooldowns on people who are fucking with the match making queues. Best advice I can give to whoever you're talking to, is to take notes from league of legends playerhub and Shield Battery in SC1's player hub. This is how other games have solved a lot of the cheating that goes on.

The graphics are fine overall yeah, but the engine is still a performance issue given the way it still doesn't seem to multithread and use modern CPUs to their full potential. If the remaster lets the game run more stuff on different physical processors it would be so much better. And what better way to move into a new StarCraft title (in general) than to remaster/re-release SC2 to get fresh sales and maybe see if there's still a market for a new RTS in the future? If it sells really well, they might do more in the RTS space. Especially if the WC3 expansion sold well, maybe they see a future for this genre. One could hope.

Even big strides being made outside of korea to finally adress the lag issues the peer to peer connection has given throughout the history of SC:R etc.

What I imagine they'll fix with a remaster sounds like a huge undertaking to my limited knowledge. People have already mentioned the cores issues, but I'm thinking of how they spent years trying to fix up battle.net to get things like an in-game watch tab or ability to jump into games to observe a la dota, deadlock, etc. Maybe the recent influx of AI-solved problems helps them here, idk. Having a team only recently assigned and shooting for 2027 seems awfully fast, unless the "remaster" is kinda lame. It could be some level of remaster and stuff like new co-op commanders and that would help reboot SC2. Should it be a remaster or new content I actually have some faith in the execution, considering their work on Classic games (not SC2 ofc lol) in the recent years has been positive.

Both times the key was to only polish the graphics, put in some QoL and be done with it. Minimal effort and maximal customer satisfaction. For Reforged, they wanted to really make it something new, in its original conception it was closer to a remake than a remastered, atleast in terms of the campaign. Aaaaand then they panicked, scratched most of it and ran out of time. And immediately after the disaster dropped onto people, they fired the entire team and restructured the whole thing for two years or whatever. Long story short: Pretty sure they learned from that. Why invest more and increase the odds of failure or do it very casual and close-nitted, when that seems to work pretty well. But SC2 is fine in pretty much all those aspects. No need for polish or QoL. Why even do it then. EDIT: Okay hacking and multithread support. Can barely call this a "Remaster" though imo. It's a patch

My wallet is on reserve for SC3 as an instant buy.

There's so much doom and gloom in the SC2 community but the truth is SC2 still has an astounding playerbase for an RTS period, let alone a ten-year-old one. Further support could easily make more money for Blizz AND boost those numbers even further given there's no major RTSes anywhere these days and there's an announced Starcraft shooter game and Starcraft BW continues to do well in Asia and the franchise is still weirdly in the public eye. Here's to hoping!

Other than Diablo 2 Remastered, Blizzard hasn't convinced me since then to buy anything new.
