The Code S Season 1 qualifiers were held on February 15th, deciding the sixteen players to compete in the first competition of the year.
Two roster spots changed compared to Code S Season 3 of 2023, with North Americans Astrea and Scarlett dropping out (due to leaving Korea) while SHIN and Ryung reentered the competition.

All 16 slots were played out again and the only two slots that changed are...two players who didn't participate anyways? GSL, for the love of god, stop doing qualifier :|

This doesn't make sense. Stop doing qualifiers for GSL? There is chance TY, Rex, Nice can win and qualify this time but they didn't. You want it to be the same 16 every time? What happens someone retires or cannot play? What about the B-Tier players who are working on improving? No chance for them ever?

There are no B-Tier player in Korea that "try to improve". And foreigners also will probably never ever try to participate again since it is such an economical hazard for them.
But yeah, "stop doing qualifiers" might have been an overstatement. I just mean to find smarter ways to qualify. Reduce the slots. Give the few remaining korean pros some security that they will be in the next season. At this point, just having four slots open for qualification would be more than enough.

Would you prefer a 32 person format where people get the byes in Code S instead of the qualifiers? Because that's what it looks like if you add more slots.

I suggest to reduce the slots that get played out through qualifier, not increase them though? Just invite the Top 12 back and just play out the last 4 slots

Does anyone know about Parting? As far as I know he played after returning from military. But he did not try to qualify?

The players are naturally creating an event with barely any turnover from season to season. You don't need to change the format if it's already effectively operating as you described.

I would have, but ages ago, and with more money, if I had a magic wand that alas I do not possess. You maybe have a few mismatches in groups, but you create that extra rung or two where players could maybe bridge that gap over time. Making a Ro32, making a bit of money and having that as a baseline to work off and maybe you do get a couple of players stepping up we haven’t seen go deep, or a returning player being a bit more motivated to try and get back to their level.
Now? That ship has probably sailed. At the pace GSL/the wider Korean are contracting even if you did create an environment to foster a new generation, they’ll probably not mature before the scene is actually comatose, if not dead entirely.

This weekend is the first big Stormgate tournament with a similiar prizepool to GSL. Guess for PartinG even trying to qualify for GSL would have meant to "waste" an entire day of training for that event.

PartinG won the tournament in question and signed with a new pro team for Stormgate. Looks like he bet on the right horse. https://liquipedia.net/stormgate/EGC_Stormgate_Open
Lots of interesting names popping up over there from SC and WC3. Vortix, HasuObs, Elazar, LucifroN, Probe, Mixu, Percival, MaNa... people starting to make the switch. Even had big name casters. Interesting...

Glad to see Stormgate getting some traction!
GSL Quali: Only notable Koreans not in are TY and sOs?

I appreciate the effort they are putting in this hybrid between WC3 and SC2 but honestly it looks awful, I am not sure how far personalities and player names can carry the game if it end up looking as it does.

While I would love seeing him finding his footing again in his current shape he just doesn t fit into a GSL tournament
