AfreecaTV has revealed the exact distribution of the Patreon funds gathered throughout 2023 to bolster the prize pool of GSL Code S.
AfreecaTV clarified that each season's crowdfunded prize bonus was capped at $30,000, with any excess funds rolling over to the next season. AfreecaTV did not confirm the continuation of GSL in 2024, but said the rollover funds from Code S Season 3 (the final season of 2023) would be "used entirely for prize money, and the usage method will be revealed at a later date."
*Tables may contain rounding errors of less than $0.01 **Amounts are BONUS prize money. Base prize money can be found in links.

Thanks for the numbers and transparency.
It's probably not news, but 3k USD for winning GSL is not dream material
|
some of these players could earn the prize money for first place GSL in a week of streaming bw.. (Stats, Ty, soO etc.)
Hope they swap

Can't believe I have to clarify that this is the bonus amount, not the total
granted, even then it's a long shot from the Blizzard-backed glory days
|
Oops... but do the liquipedia numbers already contain the crowdfunding or not?

It's about 30k USD
Edit: I misread the top line as 1st place. I think the liquipedia prize pools include the crowdfunding since the prize #s aren't clean like 10 million won.

They don't, it's the base prize

Maybe I'll add some boxes clarifying the splits soon

I'm actually really glad they added equitably, since the prize pool is already top heavy, which is the worst thing you can do for maintaining a competitive scene. At least it's not as bad as it was, where 1st place took over 50% of the total prize pool.
I think this should make it so the Ro16'ers have some incentive to still play.

Come on, if they could make 500 000 usd+ a year streaming BW they'd do it.
|
Hmm, that's not a lot of money for 1st place unfortunately. Even for DH Atlanta for $15,000 to be fair, is not a substantial amount for how big the tournament was.

2k for everyone who qualified is pretty nice IMO.

Are they streaming BW already? I don't see them in the Live Streams sidebar

Thanks Afeeeca for sharing this data. Looks like a pretty good model, honestly.

Yeah I think that’s a pretty good way of distributing it
