AfreecaTV has announced the RO16 group draw for the first season of Code S. The seeding for the draws were based on 2022 GSL points (AfreecaTV's point system that takes only GSL tournaments into account).
As previously announced, the RO16 and RO8 will take place online, while the RO4 and grand finals will take place live. The total prize money for Code S Season 1 is 34,000,000 KRW, with the champion winning 10,000,000 KRW.

Stats and Innovation! No Soo or Ragnarok is sad. Anyone else notable not make it through I'm missing?

C is the only group with two clear favorites (Gumi and Dark), the rest should be very competitive.
Still no news on English language casters?

Seeing Mr. Lee Shin-hyung in a Korean Starcraft tournament makes me forget the prizepool cuts, declining scene and overall sadness.

Quite nicely balanced groups actually. Glad to see INnoVation and Stats back (and honestly, I think both have a reasonable chance of upsetting and making Ro8). Bit brutal for RagnaroK – four opportunities to qualify, losing 1-2 to a terran player in all four instances (first Cure, then ByuN, then Ryung, then INnoVation)... ouch. Would've been cool to see TY or SpeCial or Scarlett qualify as well obviously. Hopefully TY will try again next season and we can finally have the four horsemen all playing in the same tournament for the first time in ages.
I reckon there's a pretty small chance that someone other than Maru, herO, or Dark wins the tourney, but I could mayyyybe see a ByuN or a Solar or a Cure taking it down as well. Hard to credit anyone other than those six with even a 1% chance of pulling it off. Maybe roughly 50% Maru, 15% herO, 15% Dark, 10% ByuN, 5% Solar, 5% Cure, or something in that general vein... Might be rating ByuN's chances too high, but if he could just find some way of playing nearly as well offline as he does online, he'd be the odds-on favorite in a BoX against everyone in the world, apart from Serral and Maru.

Here is my prediction, Maru and Byun of Group A, herO and Cure of Group B, Dark and Gumiho of Group C, Creator and Bunny of Group D will advance.
The dark horse will be DRG, Solar, Stats and Innovation for each respective group. Solar, better make your dream come true this time! Being denied a placement in Ro.8 for a whole damn 7 years long was such cruel punishment.

Championship favorites: Maru = herO > Dark Tiny chance of winning: Byun, Solar, Bunny, Cure Might go deep but won't win: DRG, Gumiho, Creator, Classic (Classic has actually looked great in a few recent tournaments) Fighting to advance one round: Stats, Inno, Ryung, Keen, Nightmare.
I put Maru=herO because Maru has been anti-clutch in finals for this last year, he's overall better than herO otherwise.

I think there is a big chance that both Stats and Inno advance.

Really excited to see how some of these returning players are going to do before dying to Bunny's ascent.

Popular opinion: Maru will make another final and lose.

Nice to see Creator is Tier 1 still! He's been playing really well in Gamers Without Borders so well, so I'm hoping he'll live up to being a Tier 1 Protoss this season

Abydos guys are listed as 'Club NV' This whole Team NV - Club NV - Abydos thing is an absolute clusterfuck
