I want to watch a race, either its protoss, terran or zerg. But i kinda want their functioning ie buildings and units to be similar to their sc1 analogues. What I mean by this is that I don't want to be overwhelmed by new units to watch and learn while watching these new SC2 streamers. Anyone know whether terran, protoss or zerg is more easy to watch for people transitioning to SC2? I want to commit a bit and really learn a race's functioning from the streams that they are playing on. Thanks in advance for any help

Why don't you want to learn new units, yet you want to watch sc2? I don't understand this. I don't think there are such streams which you ask for, sorry.

I would recommend watching any of Vibe's Bronze to GM stuff. Really good lessons to learn in those.

This video is pretty good. There are timestamps in the comments if you want to learn a specific match up, but WinterSC is well known for his guides, commentary and tutorial for beginners.

HeroMarine is great, but he's more advanced.

PiG is probably the best one for beginners, but he plays many races. For 1 race only, Harstem and Elazer comes to mind. They have a good mindset for learning and are pretty open with their thoughts. They also custom vs each other all the time.
SC2 Archon needs "Terrible, terrible damage" as one of it's quotes.

Yes, as the game is hard and stressful, I often find myself watching streams a lot more than I play the game. Watching some pov streams and videos is good to know what you should do, but to improve, most of your time should be spent ingame.

To address this part of the question, it's tough to say since the current version we're all playing is Legacy of the Void, which is the second expansion pack to Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty. So by this point a lot has changed as new units have been added over the expansions.

Overall, I would say that Zerg is probably the most similar. Granted, queens are pretty different and there's not really many macro hatches these days. But in terms of the units and style of play it's still fairly similar.

Protoss is quite a bit different than their SCBW counterpart due to warp gates, forcefields, blink (stalkers less durabal but WAY more mobile than dragoons), colossi (much more mobile than reavers, though disruptors are somewhat similar to reavers), and not to mention the nexus abilities.

Terran's units are fairly similar to their SCBW counterpart but their style of play is quite a bit different I'd say. Much more focussed on multitasking, and while mech is strong against zerg it's less-so against protoss and bio is usually the preferred style of play especially for beginners, whereas the opposite was true in SCBW from what I recall.

I root for Euro Zergs, NA Protoss* and Korean Terrans. (Any North American who has beat a Korean Pro as Protoss counts as NA Toss)

Every terran matchup in SC2 is basically SK terran in BW (+ tanks sometimes)

i got into sc2 by watching lowko's casts, don't recommend but i think his streams are nice. he usually plays zerg but often does other races as well.

i mainly watch Lowko for Zerg (he switches from time to time but mostly only does meme builds), but I heard that Neuro is a good stream to follow for Zerg.

if you can catch Maynarde, he's covering a lot of Terran basics. usually he's casting tournaments, though. other choices include HeRoMaRinE, uThermal, Taeja or Polt.

not too sure about Protoss, but i mainly follow MaNa, Harstem and Rotterdam.

Pig is a little bit of everything. usually i will try to catch him if he's streaming a coaching session.

You can ask plat or diamond streamers for start for some advice, watch them first because they do decent ingame and slowly so you can follow.
There is no point of watching best of best because it's hard to understand all their moves with 300-400 apm if you havent learnt all units abilities, counters, combos, etc.
and gl with your progress!

What's SK? I played BW but I don't remember that term.

Edit: (Wiki)SK Terran
Was it mentioned often? I know that TvZ style but I don't remember SK as a term.

I don't get how it is helpful for beginners. He has really good mecanisms, but poor builds execution.

The levels of his opponents seems very low (probably gold or at best platium 2) while he has probably 200APM+ with each races.

I can only speak for Zergs, so depending on your timezone:

Really informative are Lambo (EU) and Vibe (NA), also regular streamer is Ragnarok (KR).

Apart from the Zergs, as already mentioned: Harstem is a really good and friendly Protoss streamer and Pro Player, you should check out his stream!
Have a nice day!

For sure Harstem

Scarlett when she streams, maybe? But she doesn't stream that often.

None of the streams go into details of what the units do, what they counter, and what their counters are. You will find better information about this by reading the tooltip, and seeing them in action.

With that out of the way, if you are looking for beginner's guide, I recommend Vibe's Bronze to GM series the most because he picks easy to execute builds and pound foundation into you before going into the more advanced tactics and micro.

WinterSC is most entertaining to watch if you can stand his style (I can, and I know many that cannot). His low APM challenge to Masters is good at teaching decision-making and not wasting APM on overly microing things, but average APM can be deceptive.

Both of these are very easy to follow. When you have a basic understanding of the game you can watch their ladder games as they are high Masters/low GM at the moment, which will be easier to follow than mid to high GM.
