They've been calling the qualifiers Code A ever since Code A ended (so 2017).

Will there be a broadcast this time? Please?

EDIT: Ny calculations didn't go through correctly because of the current Code S season. Apologies.

Really hope the games will be broadcasted this time, would be a shame if not.

I asked Creight on stream a few days ago and he said he is still waiting to hear back from his contacts. The stream would likely be from replay but fingers crossed Afreeca are feeling kind.

No news on the qualifier broadcast yet. We've reached out to Afreeca and they've sent the request up the chain. As soon as I hear something, I'll make sure y'all know ASAP.

Update: AfreecaTV is not able to provide replays for another GSL Qualifiers cast this season. I will ask again next season.

They've basically never done it outside a few exceptions. The players dont like it. I dont think they will let anyone stream it again.

The players don't like publicity? That sounds like shooting yourself in the foot...
|
It's pretty much only one exception. There is basically nothing desirable that AfreecaTV gain by having the qualifier streamed. On the other hand, Creighton or aX stand to gain a lot of exposure by casting the event. In fact, he or his contacts bringing this up the chain should be the one offering a sufficiently large incentive to even get the opportunity to receive the replays. Casting AfreecaTV sponsored events is not nearly enough, as there is still more incentive passed on to aX, not the other way round.

I really dont understand. Why would Afreeca not allow the matches to be broadcast? Just why? Its good for the game...

That depends. If I sponsored something, I would want as many viewers as possible. The best would be if they dug up some streamer to do it on their own channel of course.
If they are serious about moving the SC2 crowd from Twitch to YouTube, I would try to make as much live high level SC2 there as possible.
I am aware that many Korean qualifiers have not been streamed in the past. Maybe the players are afraid of not showing their best or something.

GSL is not sponsored by AfreecaTV, they run/produce it. Streaming the qualifier over 2 days isn't going to drive substantial number of more viewers to the main tournament. Qualifiers have not been officially streamed ever, except the one-time we worked something out together, them and my company.

DRG 2 - 1 Taeja, Taeja subsequently beats Curious in losers finals to make it to Code S (bc ofc he does it's like 2012 again right?). The content is gold I wish we could see it. Creighton did it once, but hasn't since, I wonder why it's so difficult?

i don't know how creighton did it, but it has historically been difficult to the point where the only footage we had was noregret running around the area (offline qualifier) with a gopro presumably you're not allowed to join games if you're not a player nor some kind of referee

There were so many upsets in the brackets but ultimately none of the names who qualified surprise me. Granted a few of them I expected to see through on day 2.
Hopefully Rag and Trap aren't in complete shambles tomorrow as well.

Man, the combination of foreigners, returners, and the reduction of slots actually makes the qualifiers feel sort of stacked again.
Although, day 2 is prolly gonna be a snooze as usual

Prince and Astrea, that's already more Code S debuts than we've had in a long time.
|
Trap and Zest wtf is happening?
Edit:Now on Liquipedia Trap won against Super...
|
Zest potentially needing 3 groups to get into Code S (and he could even fail the 2nd chance group today still) is concerning.
|
WTF happened, so many new advanced players?
|
Astrea and Prince in Code S is pretty sweet!
|
Zoun or Billowy will be the last player from the first round of today, other drops to last chance groups. Protoss overall is doing well but Zest is a complete disaster.

Zest vs Creator in last Chance Group

Didn’t know “around 2” was a thing. Thought Zest and others were officially eliminated

I guess it's a neat idea overall even if that's pretty damn forgiving.

Zoun giving us another (Protoss) Code S debut. There's still a chance for more but I don't really like the odds of the remaining guys in last chance.
|
Right now, we have a perfect 8-8-8 split If we get Hurrican/Patience + Bomber and Zest + Impact in the last Chance groups, we would be pretty close to perfect balance - again

Where are you guys seeing this? The youtube channel has nothing live.

There's no way Bomber is Code S level right now imo (going by GTC games mostly here), so I'd say Hurricane/Patience and Zest/Impact are the likeliest candidates remaining.
Also, Prince and Zoun beat Curious on their runs, so clearly their qualifications are blessed by following the tradition of overcoming the Gatekeeper.

Bomber was 1 game from qualifying in both his groups (against both sOs and Astrea) and he 2-0'd Hurricane earlier. I don't know that he's Code S level but I don't know that the others necessarily are either.
Also I find it hard to put that much stock into GTC. I mean if we go by GTC results we FOR SURE have the wrong players in the GSL final.

Patience advancing is bleaarrghhh but there's still potential for some cool qualifications from the lower brackets here.

Where did you find his participation in GSL 2016? His first professional match according to alligulac was in Dec 2016. He played in GSL and ST Qualifier in March and April 2017 though, while not in S1 2017: http://aligulac.com/players/13719-Prince/results/ So he most likely turned 12 between the qualifiers of GSL 2017 S1 and S2?

Well I was also expecting Chance to do a bit better, but he kind of botched it the last Qualifier as well, so I had probably to high hopes.. He s appearently quite high on the Kr Ladder, but can t translate that into actuall tournament results :/ I pictured Percival behind him tbh, but with sose young players it s kind of hard to measure, as a lot of (small-) tournamet result is realy volatile for them and depends on who actually showes up as well...

I have some faith in Zoun, he has Prime and SKT past, he was sitting close to championship caliber players, plus he has wins vs INno, soO and Zest this year, I think he needs one breakthrough moment to boost the coinfidence. I was cheering like hell for him during IEM Katowice.

Up to 11 Protoss may qualify. Creator is still in his match so we will know if 11 Protoss qualify. Only 5 Terran qualified. That's terrible.

5 terrans out of 10 qualified today and 3 players are already seeded in the next round because 3/4 of the semifinalist of the last GSL were terran. If you look at the first part of today's qualifiers almost every win by a protoss was a PvP,they lost almost every other matchup. I'm not talking about balance but you should be intellectually honest.
P.s. Creator lost so it's almost perfectly balanced race wise.

Here are the qualification statistics for all offline premier tournaments in 2020 for Protoss:
10 Protoss qualify for IEM Katowice group stages out of 23 qualification spots 7 Protoss qualify for GSL Super Tournament out of 16 spots 7 Protoss qualified for GSL 1 out of 24 spots 10 Protoss qualified for GSL 2 out of 24 spots
Here are the qualification statistics for all offline premier tournaments in 2020 for Terran:
5 Terran qualify for IEM Katowice group stages out of 23 qualification spots 4 Terran qualify for GSL Super Tournament out of 16 spots 9 Terran qualified for this GSL out of 24 spots 5 Terran qualified for this GSL out of 24 spots

Aww creator
|
Wait,as I said I wasn't talking about balance,I was talking about your comment about today's qualifiers. You were replying to ZigguratOfUr who wrote that TODAY protoss players won almost only PvP and that was the truth. More protoss qualified today because there were more of them who tried the qualifiers and 3 terrans were already seeded. 3 of 5 terrans today never even won a map so they were just less skilled,2 qualified and the last one won just 1 set and lost every game in the second round.I think that today's player playing terran were just not that good (or qualified). I can't see how you can cry about balance after today's qualifiers.
