This means anyone who doesn't participate in the qualifiers can call themselves a Code B player now, right?

I asked Creight on stream a few days ago and he said he is still waiting to hear back from his contacts. The stream would likely be from replay but fingers crossed Afreeca are feeling kind.

Does someone know the exact date of his return? If we re lucky, he might be able to come back in time for Season 3, no?

He went into the military on January 29th last year, so he could be released as soon as September 29th.

No news on the qualifier broadcast yet. We've reached out to Afreeca and they've sent the request up the chain. As soon as I hear something, I'll make sure y'all know ASAP.

Damn thats unfortunate
I must admit, that I Don t get why afreeca is making such a bit Deal out of it
I mean there are people wanting to watch it, they could probably make a good deal out of it.
Also it would help out the smaller up and coming kr Players a ton to get some high level exposure, wich is real tragic here in my eyes...

Anyways thank you for trying to make it happen Bald Guy
Let s hope it ll work next season though

They've basically never done it outside a few exceptions. The players dont like it. I dont think they will let anyone stream it again.

It's pretty much only one exception. There is basically nothing desirable that AfreecaTV gain by having the qualifier streamed. On the other hand, Creighton or aX stand to gain a lot of exposure by casting the event. In fact, he or his contacts bringing this up the chain should be the one offering a sufficiently large incentive to even get the opportunity to receive the replays. Casting AfreecaTV sponsored events is not nearly enough, as there is still more incentive passed on to aX, not the other way round.

That depends. If I sponsored something, I would want as many viewers as possible. The best would be if they dug up some streamer to do it on their own channel of course.

If they are serious about moving the SC2 crowd from Twitch to YouTube, I would try to make as much live high level SC2 there as possible.

I am aware that many Korean qualifiers have not been streamed in the past. Maybe the players are afraid of not showing their best or something.

GSL is not sponsored by AfreecaTV, they run/produce it. Streaming the qualifier over 2 days isn't going to drive substantial number of more viewers to the main tournament. Qualifiers have not been officially streamed ever, except the one-time we worked something out together, them and my company.

Is there something like a curse for GroupA shenanigans in the 1st Season of Code S?
(edit> remember Maru the last year S2? Remember Inno the year before? Remember Dark now? )

Also lol at Trap results xD

DRG beats TaeJa and Curious to qualify for the GSL. Time is not linear after all.

They are not missing, they allready qualified, that s a totally different thing
Also Special just qualified over Zest
E:Also Teaja just won his qualifieing match as well. What T are you actually referring to, who underperformed today? Bomber? Dream? They ve never been expected to qualify in the 1st day anyways.
If you want to talk about disapointing showings, Talk about Zest and Trap.

Seems like it's a lot higher, probably just because they're playing online though.

Like does Alicia still play seriously? Didnt know if he did.

probably a good guess. Some 2 base Eternal Empire carriers could have happened too.
Seems like it's over now, 2-0 Dark.

Maybe Zest sent him the replay? afterwards?
Was defantaly not live..
Last Qualifier NoRegret was streaming his games and was conatcted by admins to stop that.
But analizing games on stream afterwards seems to be fine, as several pros have done that in the past.

DRG 2 - 1 Taeja, Taeja subsequently beats Curious in losers finals to make it to Code S (bc ofc he does it's like 2012 again right?). The content is gold I wish we could see it. Creighton did it once, but hasn't since, I wonder why it's so difficult?
Now witness their attempts to fly from tree to tree. Notice they do not so much fly as plummet.

i don't know how creighton did it, but it has historically been difficult to the point where the only footage we had was noregret running around the area (offline qualifier) with a gopro
presumably you're not allowed to join games if you're not a player nor some kind of referee

There were so many upsets in the brackets but ultimately none of the names who qualified surprise me. Granted a few of them I expected to see through on day 2.

Hopefully Rag and Trap aren't in complete shambles tomorrow as well.

Man, the combination of foreigners, returners, and the reduction of slots actually makes the qualifiers feel sort of stacked again.

Although, day 2 is prolly gonna be a snooze as usual

I feel like that's how the last few qualifiers have gone. A few upsets here and there but the only big surprises I remember in the final results are kiwian last season and Maru failing to qualify last year. In the current season, the entire Korean top 22 on Aligulac qualified or had seeds.

Awarding Points to place 41 and 42 as well would do the trick
That would pretty much mean everyone, who makes it into Round 2 gets some points then
E: I realy like the changes though, as this way breaket luck is a smaller factor now than before

I really dont get why they are not streaming the Qualifiers. Such high lvl matches, its a shame that noone can watch. They could use community casters to keep the cost low...

Luckily there is a 2nd group Stage this time around, so that is actually still possible
Also Astrea just beat Bunny and is now in the Qualifying match.
Might be the 1st new Code S player since forever
E: And the qualifying Match in Group A is Prince vs Billowy :D who would have thought that??

Seriously, this is the biggest succes he ever had so far, has never been in a Kespa Team and less than 1k carrer earnings. Super happy for him
I hope he s just going to enjoy his Code S day and isn t going to utterly botch everything and crumble under the pressure...

I wrote to Artosis in his chat to ask for a stream of these matches and he said that he was going to try to have NoRegret cast them.

The problem is that NoRegret tried to qualify so he couldn't do it I imagine.

Woah, astrea qualifying. Astrea is on his way to be as good as the top foreigners. Now if only FuturE can train in S. Korea then we would see NA scene flourish

Edit: wrong info lol

He was listed as qualified in liquipedia, and it showed he had beaten ragnarok 2-0 or something...yes i was sure, until I wasn't.

Prince and Astrea, that's already more Code S debuts than we've had in a long time.

Zest potentially needing 3 groups to get into Code S (and he could even fail the 2nd chance group today still) is concerning.

Zoun or Billowy will be the last player from the first round of today, other drops to last chance groups. Protoss overall is doing well but Zest is a complete disaster.

It's never been a thing before until today I dunno what this is. Maybe the best way they figured out to actually fill out the brackets on day 2 and have them be competitive.

yeah unless I'm missing something those round 2 brackets had never existed before. I guess it's a neat idea overall even if that's pretty damn forgiving.

Zoun giving us another (Protoss) Code S debut. There's still a chance for more but I don't really like the odds of the remaining guys in last chance.

Right now, we have a perfect 8-8-8 split
If we get Hurrican/Patience + Bomber and Zest + Impact in the last Chance groups, we would be pretty close to perfect balance - again

There's no way Bomber is Code S level right now imo (going by GTC games mostly here), so I'd say Hurricane/Patience and Zest/Impact are the likeliest candidates remaining.

Also, Prince and Zoun beat Curious on their runs, so clearly their qualifications are blessed by following the tradition of overcoming the Gatekeeper.

Bomber was 1 game from qualifying in both his groups (against both sOs and Astrea) and he 2-0'd Hurricane earlier. I don't know that he's Code S level but I don't know that the others necessarily are either.

Also I find it hard to put that much stock into GTC. I mean if we go by GTC results we FOR SURE have the wrong players in the GSL final.

He has results recorded in lickyped going back to 2017, so it's safe to assume he's at least three years old.

Patience advancing is bleaarrghhh but there's still potential for some cool qualifications from the lower brackets here.

Actually has results dating back to 2016 where he was apparently still playing Terran.

Anyway playing GSL qualifiers in 2017 means he was at least 12 at the time. So he's now in the gratuitous range of somewhere between 15 and 110 years old.

I believe this is the first time there are new players in Code S since 2018. And we get 3! Hope they don't all get crushed in the ro24. That seem very likely for Prince at least

Where did you find his participation in GSL 2016? His first professional match according to alligulac was in Dec 2016. He played in GSL and ST Qualifier in March and April 2017 though, while not in S1 2017:
http://aligulac.com/players/13719-Prince/results/
So he most likely turned 12 between the qualifiers of GSL 2017 S1 and S2?

Zoun and Astrea have good online results so they have a chance, Prince has just 0 results, all he needs now is to win at least 1 map for confidence in himself.

I remember you championing all the lesser known players back in 2012-2013, has cynicism gotten the better of you?

There was the infrastructure that generated new players on a regular basis, and there were a lot of small cups where these players can show their skills, now when there is no source for new blood and all cups are dominated by same players it is hard not to become sceptical But I return to every GSL qualifier with hopes in miracles

Never forget those ewm and esv weeklies! Glad we at least saw a few new qualifications this season.

My impression was that Percival was the new player seen as having the best chance of breaking into the player pool but he hasn't made it to gsl yet.

More North Americans won the qualifiers in 2 days than Europeans have total in the 10+ year history of GSL.

This bothers the TL Europeans.

Is that...accurate? There have definitely been more than 3 Europeans in GSL, sure most of them were invited but still

Well I was also expecting Chance to do a bit better, but he kind of botched it the last Qualifier as well, so I had probably to high hopes.. He s appearently quite high on the Kr Ladder, but can t translate that into actuall tournament results :/
I pictured Percival behind him tbh, but with sose young players it s kind of hard to measure, as a lot of (small-) tournamet result is realy volatile for them and depends on who actually showes up as well...

I have some faith in Zoun, he has Prime and SKT past, he was sitting close to championship caliber players, plus he has wins vs INno, soO and Zest this year, I think he needs one breakthrough moment to boost the coinfidence. I was cheering like hell for him during IEM Katowice.

Protoss players are the most frustrating to root for, today they seem unstoppable tomorrow they start a looong losestreak.

Do they look unstoppable? Really all they've been doing is winning a few PvPs.

Up to 11 Protoss may qualify. Creator is still in his match so we will know if 11 Protoss qualify. Only 5 Terran qualified. That's terrible.

5 terrans out of 10 qualified today and 3 players are already seeded in the next round because 3/4 of the semifinalist of the last GSL were terran. If you look at the first part of today's qualifiers almost every win by a protoss was a PvP,they lost almost every other matchup.
I'm not talking about balance but you should be intellectually honest.

P.s. Creator lost so it's almost perfectly balanced race wise.

Wait,as I said I wasn't talking about balance,I was talking about your comment about today's qualifiers.
You were replying to ZigguratOfUr who wrote that TODAY protoss players won almost only PvP and that was the truth.
More protoss qualified today because there were more of them who tried the qualifiers and 3 terrans were already seeded.
3 of 5 terrans today never even won a map so they were just less skilled,2 qualified and the last one won just 1 set and lost every game in the second round.I think that today's player playing terran were just not that good (or qualified). I can't see how you can cry about balance after today's qualifiers.
