TOP qualifying is insane really. I'm sure he's better now but few years back I would hit him on the ladder and even he'd beat me, I never got the impression that he was particularly back in form.

Patience is one of those players that could lose to anyone but still that's an impressive qualifying victory for someone who everyone assumed would never make it back into Code S ever.
Ganzi beat me without stim. Ostojiy beat me with a nydus. Siphonn beat me with probes. Revival beat my sentry-immortal all-in.

If I counted correctly, according to Aligulac Top stopped a streak of 24 straight elimination in the open qualifier of Korean tournament.

If this is the hype without stream I can only hope they stream it next time...

They haven t streamed this in ages

Well Creighton Olsen was allowed to stream the qualifying matches last season. He tried again but they couldn't make it work this time. I'm sure he will keep trying every season.

Also TOP wasn't in Code S (let alone Code A) from October 2011 to now, April 2020. It's impressive he broke that streak, but he's by far the worst player who made Code S this season.

We made an allowance through myself (and conscious efforts by all parties) as Creighton was about to jumpstart his casting career. I hope he's doing okay by now as we both haven't gotten much in contact after he left Korea.

TOP is going through the replays of his run and apparently he had Windows update popups in multiple games

It's really crazy how much the old guard still benefits from the teamhouse infrastructure back then and manages to let none of the "newcomers" come through.
But at the same time I had the impression that we saw more "new" names. If they are willing to also compete in the next qualifiers this year, we perhaps finally could see some new faces in GSL.

And I'm reeeeeally happy for TOP. He is the personified swag.
Furthermore, I consider that some kind of Code A must be reestablished.

Well, I was hoping Dynamite, Zoun and maybe Prince, Chance or Percival could qualify and start a good gsl underdog story, but I guess TOP is good for that aswell.
Natural would be fun to see on GSL too and it would've made Artosis happy hehehe

Anyways, pretty cool that Dream and Armani were able to qualify, a shame that Super didn't and Bunny breaking his non-qualifying streak is pretty nice too.

But, all things apart, what do you guys think about having less spots on GSL? If they had the same as in 2019, we would have new players and an healthier scene maybe?

It's a good thing that these new (and returning) players have a lot more online stuff to compete in than previously. Would have been even greater with some minor Code A tournament to be played, as it seemed Afreeca would do when ESL released the EPT points distribution.

Yeah, a smaller Code A and 32 Code S players I think would be best. Would even compromise the 32 Code S for a decent Code A

Yeah, even if it would be just for 2k$ or something, it would make a big difference for the aformentioned young players for sure

Tough luck for the up-and-comers. There was a good chance that one of them was going to make it through, but instead we got another return of the old guard.

Good to see each race almost had 1/3 of the spots this qualifier (Serral and Reynor are missing in these qualifiers although I consider Serral and Reynor to be within the top 5 Zergs in the world).

The qualifier for IEM was aweful for Terran with only 5 Terran qualifying out of 24 spots for the main event. And then the GSL Super Tournament qualifier was also aweful for Terran with 4 Terran making it to the main event out of 16 spots. But it's good to see some balance in the qualifiers for this GSL, as we came very close to 1/3 for each race.

IDK if I'd say ST was awefull for Terran, they were one off to have a balance number of player in the round of 16 then they had a perfect balance in the round of 8 (3 out of 8 so a bit above 33%) had 25% in the semi, but that include 1 tvt quarter (there was also a pvp quarter tho) and they had a finalist/winner.

It's pretty much perfect balance to me.

You are reacting to qualifiers post, you did notice that?
I imagine France should be able to take this unless Lilbow is busy practicing for Starcraft III. | KadaverBB is my fairy ban mother.

I would hope that each ro24 group will have two players who qualified on day 1 and two players who qualified on day 2.

They are two different calibre of players (with a few exceptions) and this would seem like a sensible way to organise the group stages.
