Also neither are as involved with the Korean scene since Polt is in the US and Golden is moving to Canada. They're probably not as up to date as Solar.

Seriously, Code S already features a very brutal format- I shudder to think of what changes could be in store to make it even more intense.
My guess is that they are dropping the group stage format in favor of a normal elimination bracket, but we'll see.

If I remember right SSL 2016 was originally planned to be BO1 single elimination but they changed it.

Probably something OGN carried over from Brood War. The standalone OSL they did the year before also had Bo1 group stages, as did all the OSL's in Brood War. Also the 2011 GSL's probably had Bo1 groups because they had one every month and had to get through them fast.

I imagine a lot of it has to do with OSL in 2013 still being primarily a for-TV product, and they probably needed to fit certain time restraints.
