I hope he will return to the scene when he is done with military service. Just hope WCS is still around then. Classic is joining military soon I believe. Wonder how soO, Zest and Stats as they are same age with herO.

(genuine question, I really hope so) Genuine answer - I think the poster was being snarky. Most if not all of the players he mentioned all tried to play professionally again after their military service (or other hiatus) and petered out shortly thereafter. The only two players that seem to have somewhat made good on their intentions in recent memory are TaeJa and Parting. TaeJa said his goal was to win a GSL this year, and seemed serious because he was one of the few players that came really close to beating Serral at the height of his powers (at the HSC right after Serral won Blizzcon). After that he made the GSL Ro32 once or twice, but hasn't done anything beyond that. Parting has made a bit more headway, being a very active streamer and racking up enough Korea WCS points to get some prize money, even though he obviously didn't make enough to earn a spot in the Ro16. Aside from that, when people go to military service in SC2 it's been pretty much a deathknell to their careers even when they try to come back afterwards.

PartinG quit sc2 without going to the army; I am confident he will rise to top tier again next year, he improved alot in 2019. Fantasy has been the most successful returning progamer while Dream is doing well in Olimoleague, I have high expectations for him; TaeJa, on the other hand, probably hasn't solved his wrist issues completely. On topic, I would have loved to see herO win something before retiring; with Classic, Stats and Zest(someone said he is somehow exempted, but I don't see it confirmed anywhere) joining him this year or the next, Protoss in Korea will be in dire conditions.

A few of his best moments across the years. Beating Rain and soO in back to back ace match vs SKT in the 2011-2012 hybrid proleague s2 playoff, CJ ended up winning the championship and herO stayed CJ ace player until the end of proleague. + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + Deifying Kespa by responding to Stephano "gl hf" in proleague and turning down the automatic victory. It also mark an exception as it is one of the only time where a pause wasn't herO's doing. + Show Spoiler + Overcoming HyuN on his way to the IEM Katowice final (g4 in particular) + Show Spoiler + Breaking Snute immaculate swarm host style with non stop warp prison harrassment + Show Spoiler + Beating a not-yet-kong Dark to finally win his first Korean tournament. + Show Spoiler + Stopping Rain on his GSL-SSL unification tour, claiming his second 4-3 victory over the calm archangel with true pvp bullshit. herO would go on to stomp ByuL to win SSL and finish the year as the no1 seed in Korea, almost 2000 point in front of second place Maru. + Show Spoiler + Beating SSL and soon-to-be GSL and GSLvsTW champ INnoVation as well as TY to claim the best tvp in the world and reach his 5th IEM final. + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + Not yet done! An underappreciated herO lead TSG to a chinese team championship victory with win over Solar and Patience culminating into a nail biter final map. + Show Spoiler + There are many, many more great games from one the best protoss player SC2 has ever seen. Also fitting that it ended at the hands of Classic, the man who now has eliminated him in his 3 Blizzcon appearances.

He has been my single favorite Protoss ever since Rain retired. herO is responsible for more great games of StarCraft II than nearly any other player around. What is even more disheartening about his departure, from this fan's standpoint, is that my favorite Zerg and Terran are soO and GuMiho, respectively. soO, GuMiho, and herO were all born within 6 weeks of each other. I have to imagine that soO and GuMiho are starting to feel the pressure about their military service. I couldn't bear to lose all three of them. Gumiho's enlistment is already scheduled and was officially announced.

Now is actually a great time to go to military for the protoss players. Since the upcoming patch is a total joke for Protoss. Might as well finish their 2 years, and hopefully protoss might be in a better state when they come back

His intuition in understanding the game, even in unique/rare situations is the most impressive and inspirational thing in SC2 to me. He has the best micro imo too. I loved watching him decicively commit to attacks that could only work with amazing micro and pulling it off. To me, watching him play felt like art more than watching any other. He was never my favourite player, it was only yesterday when describing the styles of the sc2 players to my gf that I realised how amazing herO really is. He is the only Protoss in the top 10 for winrate vs Koreans offline this year. He was the highest rated on aliguliac in PvZ when he narrowly lost to Reynor and Classic became the highest rated in PvP after winning vs him. I am sad to see him go out like that, I strongly feel like he deserved to win vs Reynor. Sad. Best wishes smiling assassin.

It’s always counted against him, that his games are somehow sloppy or whatever. That he so consistently drags the game and his opponent with him into weird territory and then wins is testament to his fantastic Starcraft brain. He’s been doing it for over half a decade and some people don’t give him the credit he deserves vs other Protoss legends who play more standard like Stats and Classic.

herO seemed very classy the way he comfortably chatted with Classic following what might be his final elimination. In terms of post-service comebacks, I really want to pull for Taeja. He has the kind of talent and desire that should be able to find its way in an alien-meta. As others have mentioned though he also has to battle his wrist injury and that might not be something that can be overcome on drive alone. If anything though, that should make him all the more fan-worthy.

Who's still here? Trap, Stats, Zest and Parting right ? And only Stats/Trap might be top tier. edit : ofc he was an amazing player, I'll never forget how much I hated seeing his blink stalkers destroying left and right my favorite zergs in 2015.
