Personally i was really disappointed that they didn't announce the group draw on stream. Maybe i am just too much invested in this game and eSport
I was like.. "But but.. the draws?"... which left me with an empty feeling.

I wouldn't have minded that they announced when it would take place instead of actually doing it right after the groups concluded. But no announcement at all was really sad.

How you guys feel?
After all said and done, one and one still is ONE.

Exactly. Waiting for new group is very annoying, especially because West America is almost the latest region of the world.

Good to see TooDming made it out in second place.
Stopped watching ESL content in 2022 when the company was acquired by Savvy Gaming Group. Also object to sponsorships by the U.S. Air Force. Thanks for the lively discussions about sportswashing. StarCraft II is not for me anymore.

It would be ok for draw to be today but streamed live, not just announced....

Wtf is this, crazy upsets. Rail taking Bly down, Hateme taking both Zanster and Sortof. Nerchio and Toodming placing last in their group? Coffe and Silky over TLO? Firefly knocking Has out?

These are upsets but not crazy upsets. That would be if soul spirit took out Serral.

For me, Nerchio in last in not surprising, his results have become more and more poor. Rail getting out of his group is also not surprising, he's actually been getting so much better over the last ~6 months its crazy.

TLO is one of the more surprising upsets to me. Even though he's not exactly S tier foreigner anymore, I am still pretty surprised he couldn't make it out of a standard NA group. Also has not making it through... he probably could have won if he just played standard games lol

i think some people don't realize that China/TW are competitive. we expect veterans like TLO and Bly to beat "unknown" players, but Chinese players are not unknowns, they're quite strong. who was expecting TLO to win again? i love TLO, he's one of the true good guys of the scene, but even a few years ago he wasn't a serious contender to win tournaments. Bly is not a standard or consistent player either

HateMe has also been a strong runner up in EU qualis for some time if you've been paying attention

He is. Also rules for group drawing are in the WCS Winter rulebook.

Good to see 3 Chinese players going through, especially considering all of them are young talents instead of veterans like iAsonu or TooDming. A competitive and healthy Chiense scene will benefit SC2 as an esports greatly given their huge player base and potential sponsorship.

edit: Just realised there are only a total of 10 Zerg players advancing in two regions, what happened to WCS?

I don't see any crazy surprises. I would have predicted Nerchio, Bly and Has to play a bit better, and Hellraiser, Mcanning and Hateme to play a bit worse. But the level of competition in their groups was fairly even (match-ups considered).
Mcanning taking a map out of Special was my biggest surprise. But the guy seemed so genuinely happy about it, that it was a pleasant one.

Only two EU terrans, but they are probably going to do really well. I hope we get an opportunity to see Serral play other matchups this year.

ZvZ is not a consistent match-up.
Nerchio and TooDMing are too old.
Coffee is not weak.He practiced hard when he was banned.
Chinese players know about Has' strategy.
Do not be so surprised.

Rail is a good 2 bases player.
ZvZ is inconsistent.
Nerchio and TooDMing are too old.
Coffee is not weak.

Nerchio is only 26 with healty wrist tho he's not that old, but he does look like the shadow of his 2016-17 self

ZvZ is pretty much as consistent as the other match-ups, especially since we no longer (or most of the time don't) see ling baneling vs ling baneling anymore.
I am a slave of Golden from now on. Obey a supreme leader of StarCraft 2 or you get banned. I am really glad to be citizen of Democratic republic of Golden.
