I think he should finish earlier than the supposed 18 month period because I heard there was a new military protocol that allowed any recruited soldier to finish their vacation days earlier without a need to go back serving once again.

There is protocol due to covid 19 where you can use your vacation days so to speak to shorten your service, but I doubt with how strict the military has been recently on shortening them that Byun has like 45 days worth of vacation left to use.

If he went to the navy, then 84 percent, if he went to the airforce then he's just cracked 80. Pretty likely he went to the ground forces though, people probably would have mentioned if he went to something else. Thank you for clarifying. Based on what you know, can you make an educated guess on the approximate date of his return to civil life? I don't think I'm the only one eagerly waiting for his (hopefully) return to competitive play.

I'm curious, do the different forces in the SK military (ground, air, navy..) have separately colored berets? I remember ByuN posted a pic of him in his uniform (seems to have deleted it though), but could you tell from that? In my country the beret-colors are a major recognition point when it comes to where you serve.

As of today, Byun has 45 days til discharge day IF he went to ground forces/police. If he went to the navy then 102 days, If he went to the airforce then 130.

The difference between ground and air forces is just the color they use for their rank. Ground are black, Airforce are blue. So their uniforms for everyday work are identical except the rank stripe color. Navy has a totally different uniform, hard to mistake with airforce or ground army. They wear white-blue stuff with no beret, instead using a kind of sailors cap. Again, it's probably more likely than anything Byun just went to the ground forces. Regardless of where he went, he's almost done anyway.

I’d love to see him back as I missed his triumphs when on a long hiatus from SC2, that said has he gave any indication he would even want to come back after service? He hit such high highs before going, might want to go out on that high perhaps.

Seems like the coloring is basically the same, but they just have the military rank colors instead of berets/unit backgrounds. Thanks for answering!
