Idra was the best, by far, after 2 years in Korea. If Nony was ever the best, it was short lived. He also went to Korea to be on a pro team. While you have to be amazing to even do that, how many trained in Korea? Him, idra and Ret. It was a big advantage, I'd imagine...
However, in SC 2, lots of players have done so. Everyone is talking about Nony as if he has never played SC 2 before. I don't see why so much focus is on BW, compared to what he actually did in SC 2 when he was already trying to accomplish this feat...
1) Idra couldn't qualify for WCS. 2) Nony wasn't at a WCS level when his job was to train for said things. I think Nony has great mechanics and the mind for it, but the fact I've yet to see him as a high GM on NA is concerning. Then add in a hiatus from the game? Then add in the atrocious balance for macro Toss players... lots of challenges.

H2H says otherwise... oh wait, I remember you, you're that IdrA fanboy. Carry on.

Idra fan boy? Even I beat Idra, after he was in Korea for years. T vs P is stupid hard. You can lose to anyone. If that H2H is even close, he's the better player in my eyes.
I like Nony. I BM with Idra every game. I have no reason to fan boy the guy. It is what it is. Both great players, but Idra reached a point where he literally didn't lose to anyone that wasn't a Korean A Teamer.
I'm not trying to hate, I just don't quite understand it. It's not like he pulled a mondragon where he simply dabbled in SC 2, so you have no idea what he might be capable of.
If you're not an aggro monkey, life is really hard for a Toss player atm. The god of ladder, Minigun, is barely even in GM now... so I have reservations.

I guess if fe Naama returns there is gonna be a topic also? After all he won the first dh, so he is entitled to it following tl logic. Naama is a god so he definitely would deserve a topic

What makes him super important to the scene? Genuine question as I'm very interested in finding out.
You're not being genuine or interested in finding out. You just want to trash on this thread because you don't feel its newsworthy. If you really were genuine, you wouldn't have replied with this asinine comment aftewards
Oh dear God, he won a tournament in 2009. That's superduper important, thank God game didn't collapse while he was in the retirement.
The sarcasm is dripping from your words.
You're being an asshole.
To some of us, Nony returning is great news. In fact, I would say many. Yes MANY TLers are happy about his return. We don't care about what he won, or his list of acheivements. We care that Tyler has always treated people with respect. He takes the time to read comments, and always address the argument. He never uses adhominem or straw man fallacies, nor does he disrespect others. I am a fan of Nony the person, not Nony the progamer.
You obviously are indifferent, but for some reason choose to be an asshole about the thread. If its not important to you, just don't comment. Honestly, I feel you should be banned for being such a douchebag, but unfortunately I am not a mod.

NonY returning would definitely make me more interested in actually following the scene. He's from the old guard of professionals I actually felt a connection to and followed when I was aspiring to get good at the game. Alas, I topped out at top 8 diamond :p

I guess if fe Naama returns there is gonna be a topic also? After all he won the first dh, so he is entitled to it following tl logic. I understand the point that you're trying to make with respect to his lacking SC2 career. The reason people are as respectful and potentially excited when it comes to NonY, is that he looked more impressive in BW than any SC2 foreigner has looked in SC2. It's impossible to tell whether determination alone will allow him to reach the same level in this game, but the potential is there.
wtf... that's not true. yea he had an okay courage run but his peak wasn't even the highest foreigner peak in bw whereas sc2 foreigners have legitimately been in the running for the best in the world at points?

Idra? Is this your smurf account? Still active? ;-P
Good luck NonY

Same. I wish him the best but I'm not sure he's got what it takes to make it in SC2.

He can do it.
See you at Blizzcon NonY

I'm incredibly pumped about this news - Love NonY!

I see some of you take some questions and a bit of sarcasm, a little bit to yourself.
To straight things out.
I've heard of Nony as I watch the scene since wol. My point wasn't to attack anybody. I checked tl bw/sc2 sites, 5 noticable places in bw tournaments, some ro's in sc2, googled to find out he was once suspended while being in teamliquid, and was just surprised. What's the big deal about that he's coming back.
Now I know a bit more, thanks to some who actually cared to response in a normal manner instead of dropping link to bw tournament that happened 7 years ago.
And I'm happy as usual that some people still come to this game and try, with it's current state as we all know it. I would LOVE for Naama to comeback, finals vs mana on that first dh were awesome! Comparison was just to point out my point of view.
Cheers

His results aside, he was and is part of the liquid family with many fans liking him so why not he could try again?

not read any of the previous posts but as someone who has followed the scene even before tl was the main goto for sc2, nony didnt do anything! Im pretty sure he was on tl (quite literally writing from memory here but im insta responding to the headline) and he won a tournament around the beta or at least in the first year of the game.
Nony only came up on any radar was when he beat idra i think, but at that time everyone was super pissed off with protoss and dare i say it, it nearly was the death of the game there and then but then something happened with the queens and zerg started to come back.
I seemed to remember everyone hating drops and not knowing how to deal . . . .they didnt have a fucking goFast button then!
im responding because the game is literally in bad shape at the minute, and then someone who didnt do anything is coming back? Back to what? and i just cant bare to scroll up and see all the <3 nonY fucking messages. I do wish him well but i think the best of this game is certainly behind us now

He should if he wishes, nobody can't stop him, and I wish him all the luck! But it's gonna be very, very hard to do. To get at blizzcon? Look at top8 from world, all world class players who practice since a loooooooong time.

He better start hitting that training hard. I always loved watching Tyler do well and hope he can break through to blizzcon. It's a monumental task.
