Just confident and ecstatic. Winning 200k over the best Zerg in the world on the biggest stage of the year to become the world champ should do that to you. People complain about faceless Koreans for years (why they continue to be a part of this community if they dislike Korean culture so much is beyond me), and when someone finally steps up to take PartinG's shoes (although without going full MC) you instantly get posts like this... it really boggles my mind man. Completely agreed with your post. Poopi, the "people" in this case, has been around the block and was there for Byuns debut. Although I agree that the phrase faceless korean isn't very palatable I would not accuse him of saying it. In Byuns case, who gained notoriety from the word go, it isn't applicable either. We can hash out whether it is unfair to characterize mid level Koreans coming to foreign tournaments and scooping up prize money as unhealthy, and whether region lock has been successful. But I don't think this is what Poopi's on about today. He's just saying that Byun was very blunt and we're very used to Koreans (and pro gamers in general) being extremely reserved in their answers. I was there for ByuN's debut too. I was also there trying to calm the pitchforks during the ByuN/CoCa debacle when everyone was calling for their heads and I was lamenting how their overzealous reaction would cost two very promising players their future; fortunately, in the long run, I ended up being wrong about one of them. Yeah I wasn't accusing Poopi of bringing up that cancerous mindset, merely that people complain about it for years and when someone else breaks the mold again there's always someone there in the front row to go like "that was mean, disrespectful, etc.". There's always someone. I am with you that I think his answers are great. He kicked ass. He is right to claim he has defined the meta in TvZ. I'm perfectly okay with him showing it.

Wow so many reactions haha. I mainly meant that it didn't really feel like a ByuN interview, he was like "that's my build! I was the first to play WoL! KR no longer have teams? Suck it up I had to do without one for years!" and I wasn't accustomed to such itws from the man. But yeah indeed I'm far from being one of the people who would ever call KR players "faceless Koreans".
It's kinda nice to know one of his tricks for surprising in Korea, especially since BeastyQT was basically relevant in one recent tournament (his top 3), so that means there was a little bit of BeastyQT play in ByuN's GSL run, kinda nice for someone who just recently started playing again.
Is he really speaking up his mind about viOLet tho :D, can it be called practice in TvZ since it was so one sided? I don't think TY would have been more confident against Dark after his games vs Elazer either. If anything he would probably be glad he didn't show anything else than an opening since it was so short.

Neither of them had to actually show anything in the match-up until the finals and it's not like the match against viOlet was long enough to even warm up.

Great interview and great piece when MALs involved... maybe? Just saying thr is a possibility. ofc not taking anything away from Byuns character. But in honesty, ive missed doing this, giving you sth to talk about... Bring me back SC2 bring me back T_T

FWIW, Mal clarified after the interview that in this case this was 100% ByuN rather than a particularly spicy translation

good work byun. i liked this interview a lot.

For those that thought he sounded arrogant or blunt in this interview. Keep in mind that this is a translated interview. Things such as tone (How he said it) and cultural turn of phrase is often mistranslated, at the very least it comes across differently.
Also he did just win Blizzcon and beat 3 of the best players in their respective races. He has kinda earned the right.

Also, Is it just me or was Patience a massive massive rude #$@#$ to not show up to practice with someone COMPETING THAT DAY after he agreed? That is a dick move of epic proportions.

Apologies, I'd like to mention that ByuN asked us explicitly to thank Team Expert for their support... and I left it out by mistake. It's now been added to the end of the article.

Nice interview. Never knew he was ghostkingprime. Always thought it was someone else.

this interview is oozing with Byunniness.

Awesome interview from the best player of 2016. I have always been a huge fan of all the excellent Terran players, but something about Byun this year has been magical. The fact he has such nerves playing under the spotlight and STILL managed to win these major tournaments endeared me to him like no other.
I'd absolutely love a signature from players like Inno, Maru, Bomber, Taeja, Gumiho, Uthermal ect. But I'd much, much rather just want a chance to tell Byun how inspiring he has been to me and how much happiness he has been able to give to me throughout this year. He has literally made my life better, beyond his absolutely otherworldly game-play but his genuine and heartbreaking reactions to defeat (game 5 of crossfinal to Dark); but more importantly, his ability to push past defeat and turn it into success against the very same opponent ON THE VERY SAME MAP, VERY SAME SPAWNS (horizontal) and make it a victory for the biggest win of the year and his career.
He said he spent the cab ride home from the crossfinal defeat crying, and it was hours long. As a hypothetical, if the cab driver had said something under his breath like "what a wuss why is this grown man crying" it would have been an incredible honor to have been able to punch the driver in the face and tell him to mind his own business. That's the type of Byun fan I am.

grats you remembered the part where I yelled at you about how "byun interview" is the worst title ever

Grumpy ol snorlax. Where's my flute.

ByuN even gives good interviews. Even though he beat my sweetheart Dark and basically admitted to 3rax reaper being broken, it's impossible not to like him!
Disclaimer: 3 rax reaper seems pretty strong for sure, but I'm more impressed that he's calling it outright broken haha

Great interview! Excellent questions.
Is it me, or did what Patience do to Byun seem like a massive D--- move? Had Neeb not shown up, Byun would have been left waiting for 5 hours for the text. I don't know man... at least let the guy know you have to take a rain check, or if you do not want to help him. What Patience did is just sketch. I'm hoping that this is just a translation miscommunication and that Patience just overslept. If he did this on purpose, I would lose all respect for him.

Great interview, Byun is such a cool guy.

He got the cash but is hollow within, if you'd ask me.
